Would a DJI air unit attached on top of a DJI drone both powered on, do any type of damage to each other, or cause some type of interference? ( Just a randomly FPV question there!) Thanks
Years ago the federal government decided that it was going to put an annual registration fee on recreational boats. They got close to zero compliance and that fee went away. Fly free or die.
I think in general most cops will ignore the idea of this. I wouldn't give them a reason to use it. They're good at knowing laws if your constantly in trouble. Otherwise. I haven't used a cross walk in my whole life, and never got a ticket for J walking. so Im hoping this follows suits.

I have that module in the TPU case which I attach to the LiPo with a rubber band. For power I connect it to the balance lead on the LiPo. I find this setup makes it easy to use, just plug and play.
Help please! I can't connect to update firmware on my flight controller. It tries to connect and doesn't work, then if connect, then disconnect in 3-5sec, or connect with CLI only, or says about unavailable version, and there is no my board of FC(SPracingF3) as an option in Betaflight-configurator(i tried few older versions too). I tried update/change drivers and also ImpulseRC doens't find anything. Would be nicer if we could connect in discord/slype etc so faster/better communication and so i can show what exactly happens. But any help would be great. Thanks!
Gps pass through is my next goal. I have to learn about softserial uarts for the xilo stax v2. Should i put an ext mini battery to start the gps part up early before starting quad?
The only way to register is via Internet. It's expected in modern society in USA that you will have some access to Internet, even if it is only via public access like library etc.
I'd love to see a durability test... most sensitive components are mostly protected by the frame and on a freestyle quad I wonder how much someone would spend on replacements in a year... as usual, thanks for the informative video!
The people I fly hard with all average about $50 per flight hour in parts, we were all just doing the math recently. $20 if we run beat up props and take it easy. My worst month was about $4000 but I was flying all day every day. I generally average 1000. It basically depends on the harshness of your environment, the number of packs you fly, and how hard you push outside of your comfort zone. And if you lose a quad. I lost 2 in one day flying a power plant, that was 500+ each. I think I average one unrecoverable quad a year, so that’s pretty good. I think I covered everything.
It's the government we're talking about. They're still keeping the patriot act alive to skip warrants by merely claiming suspicion of someone being a terrorist. They want everything we do monitored because they're sick weirdos.
Reverse voltage will not damage that remote I’d module. That one has reverse voltage protection. I have been mounting mine under a battery strap on top of the battery with heat shrink around the module and was getting awful interference with ELRS 2.4. I was able to switch to crossfire to fix the issue but expect there’s going to be a lot of issues around this very soon, especially if mounted as close to the ELRS antenna as you just demonstrated.
I was hard set Against remote ID. But if you're gonna make the video I am more compelled to actually put 1 on at least one of my aircraft since I am a recreational pilot. I may not hook up a red or black.. but I'll add the unnecessary weight anyway... For the FAA, eh.
I made a 3d printed case that has a sort of hook that goes under the battery strap, then it plugs into the balance plug for power. It works well at least for big quads like my 7in cruisers. I did this so I can easily move it between all of my quads.
I was under the impression that "homemade" drones, or FPV drones in that style, then you didn't need to fly with RemoteID if just flying for recreation? I assume that at least under 250g are exempt just liked their commercially manufactured counterparts?
Recreational flights under 250g are exempt. Recreational flights over 250g require RemoteID unless flown at a FRIA. Commercial flights require RemoteID regardless of weight.
If you're a licensed part 107 pilot who goes outside of recreational use, then they start requiring the more strict rules, even if your UAV magically weighs nothing.
Yeah, you're right. I'm a 107 pilot but so is Bardwell. That's why I asked for some clarification. I really don't want to spend $100 per quad to make them legal but I'm trying to do things by the book. There is also the issue of registering homebuilt drones and what constitutes a "flight system".
I'm having some trouble getting my GPS to work with Betaflight on my 5-inch quad equipped with a Xilo F4 flight controller. Recently, I added a Flite Test EZ ID and connected the GPS TX to RX4, powering it directly from the battery per Bardwell’s instructions. FT’s installation instructions say there’s no need to connect any of the other cables. I've checked the wiring multiple times and it's correct and my joints are good. In Betaflight, I've set UART 4 port to 'gps' and baud to auto as per Flite Test's installation instructions. However, I've noticed that Betaflight won't save the baud rate to auto; it always reverts to 57600. No matter what combination I try in the Ports tab, I can't seem to get it to save as auto. I’m not even sure this is why beta flight doesn’t see the unit, but it’s the only thing that I can discern that is different than what flite test says should make the unit function. My flight controller is updated to the newest 4.5 version, and I'm using Betaflight 10.10. Any suggestions or ideas on what to do next? I'd really appreciate any help you can offer. Just a little side info; according to Josh Bixler, the FliteTest RID module has reverse polarity protection built in. If the polarity is reversed, it won't power up and no magic smoke will be released.
How do you request to fly in geofenced areas with a built aircraft? DJI has a portal on their remotes you can use, but built aircrafts won't have that accessible?
There are 3rd party apps that can be used to request LAANC approval if you are trying to fly in controlled airspace. Otherwise, you just go fly. The system does not enforce any geofencing at all.

Thanks for this. I'm not going to go through the fuss and muss without also wiring the GPS to Betaflight and setting up GPS Rescue (having just lost a quad where GPS Rescue would have likely saved the day). At least a GPS with Rescue will be on all the quads I fly in the wilds, going forward. Sadly, ViFly Finder Mini didn't save the day. Life goes on.
The RemoteID from FliteTest actually has reverse polarity protection. So yes, be super duper careful positive goes to positive and negative to negative, but if you screw up it is supposed to not "let the smoke out." I screwed up 3D printer upgrading to Klipper, so I'm still sorting through adding RemoteID to my Joshua Bardwell DIY FPV kit. What I ended up doing was buying a LiR coin battery case (about 20 grams with two batteries) and LiR CR2035 coin sized, rechargeable batteries, to power this RemoteID module. Technically you could power this with 1 LiR2035 battery but I wanted a longer life. I got over an hour on a full charge with two LiR 2035 coin batteries with the FliteTest Remote ID. This makes it self sufficient (attaching battery case to RID case), and moveable from FPV to FPV if I wanted. And, the whole thing, RID module, batteries, case comes to about 21g, which a 5" 6s FPV drone can easily handle.
I want to see you actually get a gps lock with this unit and how long it takes. I spend like 15 minutes rn getting a lock with my fpv quads with gps on them, and I have to encase the wires in copper shielding or I get nothing due to signal interference. If this is better I want to know..it might actually make it a bit more worth the $100. Also use its gps function on your quad and see if that works.
I've found that difficulty in getting a lock is often the result of having other electronics in close proximity to the GPS. Tried putting a Flywoo Nano V3 GPS onto a Mobula 7, directly on top of the AIO, and found that it could not get a lock. After moving the GPS a mere inch away, it started to find things again. They're very sensitive little radios, and nearly any kind of noise will screw with them. Separation is king!
Joshua, great video. The Flite Test EZ ID has polarity protection, so if a user reverses positive and negative, the FT EZ ID will not be damaged. Dave Messina
We already have people blasting like 5 watts with no HAM license, and nobody's getting brought in. I went to the effort of getting mine and realized that I went the extra mile for nothing.
I think you need to commit one way or the other. Those that want to move the same RemoteID unit between all craft should simply velcro this to the top of the battery and plug it into the balance lead. Those that want to permanently mount it and use the GPS should run power and signal direct to the flight controller and eliminate the 2nd battery connection.
The FAA document on their site was updated 11/20/2023 and there is a line pertaining to registering RID craft as it pertains to recreational and Part 107 that says, This is not the case for Part 107 pilots who must register each individual device (Standard Remote ID drone or Remote ID broadcast module) separately within their inventory and each device will get a unique registration number. . I found it interesting that for Part 107, it included a RID broadcast module. I was under the impression that for Part 107, a broadcast module was not in compliance. On the "Interrogating Bardwell - FPV Spill the Tea #6 Livestream", there is a discussion about RID and Part 107. You mention that for Part 107, a broadcast module is not in compliance with the rule. But that was 2 months ago. I guess you can have your Part 107 and choose not to do paid work? But as soon as you start getting paid, you have to have Standard RID on our frame? Which pretty much means you're flying a DJI product? I'm not a Part 107 operator. I was just curious. . Also, that thing is pretty big. If you have a 3" or 4" that is over 250g, where would it go? I guess it could be attached to the top of a lipo with velcro and hope if doesn't get yanked off in a crash or by a tree branch?
That's interesting that you point that out. But never let inconsistent messaging from the FAA make you assume that policy has changed. Unless they issue a specific advisory or change the rules, this could just be one dude going off message. It's happened before.

Since I don't comb through the reams of pages on the rule, I can only go on history when it comes to inconsistent messaging from government bureaucracies. But just based on that line on the FAA site (Home/Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)/Getting Started/Remote ID), I guess some Part 107 operators will think a broadcast module would be in compliance and they could go on earning an income. At least until they get told otherwise and use that line as a form of defense.
All I'm saying is, if the rule says one thing and a website says another thing, then I wouldn't assume the website was authoritative. Until there is an official Advisory from the FAA, or some other Official Statement of Interperetation or whatever you want to call it, I'm going to assume they're interpreting the rules as written. We have seen interviews by the director of the FAA where incorrect or inconsistent information was given out. Was this him being under-prepared for the interview or was it an official statement of the FAA's position? Nobody knows. It's up to the individual to decide how much risk they want to take.

in germany its simple as fuck.... you need a registration for you as pilot and then you print out youre number and stick it on the drone and finish thats for finding out wehn you crash adn damage something who is the owner

Install the remote-id. Unplug the cable. If anyone (a million to once chance) calls the cops on you, and the cop (another million to one odds) actually knows about drone laws, comes up to you and checks the remote-id while in flight or after landing, you say "oh shoot, the cable came off during my crash". Plausible deniability.
You understand that flying with a inactive RemoteID is just as much a violation as flying without one at all. The rules say you are responsible for the module functioning.
I don't want that big thing hanging off the back of my drone...i choose no comply just to resist ridiculous regulation I fly freestyle away from people and way under 400 feet. This isn't a negative comment about Flite Test, but damn $100 seems like a lot for a Federally mandated component. It's a significant cost even if you typically buy parts that are on the upper end of the hobby.

A good way to wire up would be to use 3S balance lead. The connection would be small enough and then you would be able to send power ground TX and RX and hook the GPS up to your flight controller as well.

You are right in a sense. Many of the people who choose to comply with this rule are professional 107 operators who will lose their livelihood if they get caught out of compliance. I made this video for them, and other people like them.
I know this probably isn’t relevant, and I feel like it’s a dumb question that I should know, but I can’t find any info on what I’m trying to find and I’ve been looking for a while. I have a TX16S controller, TBS crossfire module on the back, and it came with a couple small receivers that I use in my drone build. I’m all good there, however. I have an R/C A10 Warthog from Motion R/C. Since drone receivers and airplane receivers are different, I need is a receiver that will work in the plane, that will bond with my current transmitter setup.
@@danielthornton1633 Do keep in mind that plane flight controllers often have PWM outputs, and your serial receivers work just fine in that case. I used an F405-WMN flight controller in my plane, and hooked up a Matek R-24D receiver to it exactly like I would on a quad. So if you have a flight controller, remember that you have this option.

I've only been looking into the hobby for a few short months. I don't know maybe I'm missing something, But for how dangerous these things can be I feel like the current fufillments are pretty reasonable. Control is definitely a slippery slope, so I can empathize with concerns. For the majority of the hobby lifespan, you could fire up a 50- 100 MPH manual controlled drone and the largest barrier to entry was the money in your pocket. As an outsider looking to get into the hobby, that's a crazy concept.
Cars are way more dangerous than quadcopters. Yet there's no way to remote-id a car except for looking at the license plate (which may be hidden from view). How come we dont add remote-id to cars before we add them to toys? The WORST part about remote-id is that in some cases it also discloses the location of the controller, meaning YOU as a pilot standing somewhere. Why is this bad? Welcome to USA where everyone is armed and some people are absolutely nuts and psychos. Do you want YOUR location broadcast in real time, when an angry dude who hates drones and suffers paranoid delusions, walks out with a shotgun? Imagine if your laptop or pc had remote-id on it so that any troll on the internet could find your IRL location in real-time to come find you? Basically, the "find my phone" feature, but open to the public for anyone to use, with YOUR phone / laptop / pc.. That's why remote-id is absolutely unacceptable in terms of both privacy and operator safety. Now let's talk about drones like the Mavic 3 Cine or the Inspire. Why is remote-id bad for those? Same exact thing. What if you happen to stand in a less than reputable part of the town (or less reputable people happen to be nearby, you cant know). You're broadcasting your location, along with the type of the drone. What does this mean? It means you're openly broadcasting a red bullseye on your self saying "$3k-6k drone RIGHT HERE, come take it!" People get robbed for far less than $3k. In the civilized safer parts of the world, this isnt a concern. In USA, it's a big concern. "But drones can be dangerous if some jerk flies into people intentionally". Guns and knives are dangerous if used intentionally against people. Yet we dont have remote-id on guns (which frankly IS actually strange). Drones are the LEAST of our problems, and cause the LEAST injuries or deaths compared to everything else society has to deal with. It's a non-issue. Psychopaths who want to cause harm to others are psychopaths no matter the tools they use. People who aren't psychopaths, but get into accidents because they didnt learn how to fly the drone, will only get into 1 accident. Then their drone is broken. if they get into another accident, their next drone is broken. Their wallet is empty.

What makes you think people took this sitting down. People have been fighting in a bunch of different ways, including RDQ spending literally six figures on a federal lawsuit (which they lost). @@JoshuaBardwell I can see your point of view and in my anger at the situation my words may have belittled efforts and come across like I was unaware, and Im not and didnt mean to. What my real feelings are here, is that just complying like everything is fine is what gives small laws like this power. No one is going to jail for a 300g unregistered drone, and they probably will never get fined. People just keep pushing those boundaries just ever so slightly enough that no reasonable person could enforce such baseless laws and eventually it gets stricken. People fly responsibly as they have been, but with the mildest hint of civil disobedience and its just that bit to help fight the law gaining aocietal inertia and that sort of "its been here for a while" point of view that once settled seems permanent. Of course I dont expect you to be out there telling people not to comply, but I wouldnt expect to see the opposite either. When enough people dont comply, there becomes too little infrastructure to reasonably expect people to comply or for the rules to he enforced effectively and it gets dropped or ignored at least for the little guy. I think of it like with vhs back in the day, where it was debatedly illegal to record tv, but we settled on that its not, and I dont imagine the fact that the common law person thought it was ridiculous and wouldnt comply had a great deal to do with it. Now, we have a similar situation with Netflix etc, except companirs are winning this because theyve learned to cook the frog and get the wverage person to feel to overwhelmed by their presence to to throw a fuss. Once again, especially because its your brand/livelyhood, I totally get you complying; not wanting to be shut down in official capacity, but it just makes me sad seeing people who serve as leaders in the space advocating for acceptance, even if reluctantly. It's certainly a complex situation and so I do understand why my initial rather casual/flippant/inaccurate dismissal came across poorly, but I just think its not the time to give up yet. Stretching the boundaries until its not enforced and hopefully eventually gets removed I think is the only way I can imagine this is done. I feel like Amazon, UPS etc will forget about drone delivery as a mass method of delivery soon given that with current lithium tech its not viable economically or environmentally and would only really be viable for luxury sub 1 hour deliveries. After that, there wont be much force keeping the law in place apart from inertia, so I think people just need to not give the law inertia. Just people dragging their feet I think results in the best outcome.
I definitely won't be helping them overstep, because I know where it goes if we comply. We'll have cell subscriptions on these modules, and they'll mandate remote kill switches among other things. The freakin birds pose more of a threat than my little hobby aircraft. They need to butt out.
Why are they price gouging them when they know everybody needs them... $99 for something that should cost $14... If they could make it more affordable , I wouldn't have any problem using one but I can't afford a $100 ...i still fly analog.. I can't afford to upgrade My video system to digital.😂

Right, right. I understand that point of view. But the difference is, the RemoteID unit is federally regulated. That's where the additional cost comes in. The manufacturer has to 1) make sure the device conforms to all the requirements of the regulation, 2) submit the device for testing to confirm that, 3) apply to the FAA for approval, and 4) perform various on-going tasks as required by the FAA. If at any point, the manufacturer drops the ball, all the people using their hardware are no longer compliant with the rules. Even though NOTHING has changed about their RemoteID device. It's because of all that responsibility that these devices cost money. Because somebody at the manufacturer has to get paid to keep the FAA happy.

Only if they come in a complete package i.e. Drone Battery Controller & Charger ect. are they required to have STANDARD RID.

It basically depends on the harshness of your environment, the number of packs you fly, and how hard you push outside of your comfort zone. And if you lose a quad. I lost 2 in one day flying a power plant, that was 500+ each. I think I average one unrecoverable quad a year, so that’s pretty good.

Reverse voltage will not damage that remote I’d module. That one has reverse voltage protection. I have been mounting mine under a battery strap on top of the battery with heat shrink around the module and was getting awful interference with ELRS 2.4. I was able to switch to crossfire to fix the issue but expect there’s going to be a lot of issues around this very soon, especially if mounted as close to the ELRS antenna as you just demonstrated.

Could you use a balance plug connector to supply power. That way you can more easily swap it out between quads?
Should work fine. This stuff barely demands any amperage, so there's really no risk to it.

I made a 3d printed case that has a sort of hook that goes under the battery strap, then it plugs into the balance plug for power. It works well at least for big quads like my 7in cruisers. I did this so I can easily move it between all of my quads.
I was under the impression that "homemade" drones, or FPV drones in that style, then you didn't need to fly with RemoteID if just flying for recreation?
I assume that at least under 250g are exempt just liked their commercially manufactured counterparts?
Recreational flights under 250g are exempt. Recreational flights over 250g require RemoteID unless flown at a FRIA. Commercial flights require RemoteID regardless of weight.

Yeah, you're right. I'm a 107 pilot but so is Bardwell. That's why I asked for some clarification. I really don't want to spend $100 per quad to make them legal but I'm trying to do things by the book. There is also the issue of registering homebuilt drones and what constitutes a "flight system".
I'm having some trouble getting my GPS to work with Betaflight on my 5-inch quad equipped with a Xilo F4 flight controller. Recently, I added a Flite Test EZ ID and connected the GPS TX to RX4, powering it directly from the battery per Bardwell’s instructions. FT’s installation instructions say there’s no need to connect any of the other cables. I've checked the wiring multiple times and it's correct and my joints are good.
In Betaflight, I've set UART 4 port to 'gps' and baud to auto as per Flite Test's installation instructions. However, I've noticed that Betaflight won't save the baud rate to auto; it always reverts to 57600. No matter what combination I try in the Ports tab, I can't seem to get it to save as auto. I’m not even sure this is why beta flight doesn’t see the unit, but it’s the only thing that I can discern that is different than what flite test says should make the unit function.
My flight controller is updated to the newest 4.5 version, and I'm using Betaflight 10.10.
Any suggestions or ideas on what to do next? I'd really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance!

Almost none. It consumes a miniscule amount of power.
Just a little side info; according to Josh Bixler, the FliteTest RID module has reverse polarity protection built in. If the polarity is reversed, it won't power up and no magic smoke will be released.

How do you request to fly in geofenced areas with a built aircraft? DJI has a portal on their remotes you can use, but built aircrafts won't have that accessible?
There are 3rd party apps that can be used to request LAANC approval if you are trying to fly in controlled airspace. Otherwise, you just go fly. The system does not enforce any geofencing at all.

My understanding is that part 107 requires a unique registration ID per aircraft, so you'd need a unique module per aircraft.

Thanks for this. I'm not going to go through the fuss and muss without also wiring the GPS to Betaflight and setting up GPS Rescue (having just lost a quad where GPS Rescue would have likely saved the day). At least a GPS with Rescue will be on all the quads I fly in the wilds, going forward. Sadly, ViFly Finder Mini didn't save the day. Life goes on.
The RemoteID from FliteTest actually has reverse polarity protection. So yes, be super duper careful positive goes to positive and negative to negative, but if you screw up it is supposed to not "let the smoke out." I screwed up 3D printer upgrading to Klipper, so I'm still sorting through adding RemoteID to my Joshua Bardwell DIY FPV kit.
What I ended up doing was buying a LiR coin battery case (about 20 grams with two batteries) and LiR CR2035 coin sized, rechargeable batteries, to power this RemoteID module. Technically you could power this with 1 LiR2035 battery but I wanted a longer life. I got over an hour on a full charge with two LiR 2035 coin batteries with the FliteTest Remote ID. This makes it self sufficient (attaching battery case to RID case), and moveable from FPV to FPV if I wanted. And, the whole thing, RID module, batteries, case comes to about 21g, which a 5" 6s FPV drone can easily handle.
Joshua pledged to share his mighty knowledge with us all, even if it has to be about remote id.
I want to see you actually get a gps lock with this unit and how long it takes. I spend like 15 minutes rn getting a lock with my fpv quads with gps on them, and I have to encase the wires in copper shielding or I get nothing due to signal interference. If this is better I want to know..it might actually make it a bit more worth the $100. Also use its gps function on your quad and see if that works.

I've found that difficulty in getting a lock is often the result of having other electronics in close proximity to the GPS. Tried putting a Flywoo Nano V3 GPS onto a Mobula 7, directly on top of the AIO, and found that it could not get a lock. After moving the GPS a mere inch away, it started to find things again. They're very sensitive little radios, and nearly any kind of noise will screw with them. Separation is king!

Any drone over 250g or any drone flown for part 107 purposes is supposed to have RemoteID.
I fly planes, and they make smaller RemoteID units. There is one that is a little bigger than that gps unit in this video. That you have to solder up.

I think you need to commit one way or the other. Those that want to move the same RemoteID unit between all craft should simply velcro this to the top of the battery and plug it into the balance lead. Those that want to permanently mount it and use the GPS should run power and signal direct to the flight controller and eliminate the 2nd battery connection.
The FAA document on their site was updated 11/20/2023 and there is a line pertaining to registering RID craft as it pertains to recreational and Part 107 that says,
This is not the case for Part 107 pilots who must register each individual device (Standard Remote ID drone or Remote ID broadcast module) separately within their inventory and each device will get a unique registration number.

I found it interesting that for Part 107, it included a RID broadcast module. I was under the impression that for Part 107, a broadcast module was not in compliance. On the "Interrogating Bardwell - FPV Spill the Tea #6 Livestream", there is a discussion about RID and Part 107. You mention that for Part 107, a broadcast module is not in compliance with the rule. But that was 2 months ago. I guess you can have your Part 107 and choose not to do paid work? But as soon as you start getting paid, you have to have Standard RID on our frame? Which pretty much means you're flying a DJI product? I'm not a Part 107 operator. I was just curious.

That's interesting that you point that out. But never let inconsistent messaging from the FAA make you assume that policy has changed. Unless they issue a specific advisory or change the rules, this could just be one dude going off message. It's happened before.

Since I don't comb through the reams of pages on the rule, I can only go on history when it comes to inconsistent messaging from government bureaucracies. But just based on that line on the FAA site (Home/Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)/Getting Started/Remote ID), I guess some Part 107 operators will think a broadcast module would be in compliance and they could go on earning an income. At least until they get told otherwise and use that line as a form of defense.
All I'm saying is, if the rule says one thing and a website says another thing, then I wouldn't assume the website was authoritative. Until there is an official Advisory from the FAA, or some other Official Statement of Interperetation or whatever you want to call it, I'm going to assume they're interpreting the rules as written.
We have seen interviews by the director of the FAA where incorrect or inconsistent information was given out. Was this him being under-prepared for the interview or was it an official statement of the FAA's position? Nobody knows. It's up to the individual to decide how much risk they want to take.

If anyone (a million to once chance) calls the cops on you, and the cop (another million to one odds) actually knows about drone laws, comes up to you and checks the remote-id while in flight or after landing, you say "oh shoot, the cable came off during my crash".

You understand that flying with a inactive RemoteID is just as much a violation as flying without one at all. The rules say you are responsible for the module functioning.

This isn't a negative comment about Flite Test, but damn $100 seems like a lot for a Federally mandated component. It's a significant cost even if you typically buy parts that are on the upper end of the hobby.

As long as all of your drones are registered under one inventory, then you can swap out one remote ID module for all your drones.

A good way to wire up would be to use 3S balance lead. The connection would be small enough and then you would be able to send power ground TX and RX and hook the GPS up to your flight controller as well.

You are right in a sense. Many of the people who choose to comply with this rule are professional 107 operators who will lose their livelihood if they get caught out of compliance. I made this video for them, and other people like them.

I know this probably isn’t relevant, and I feel like it’s a dumb question that I should know, but I can’t find any info on what I’m trying to find and I’ve been looking for a while.
I have a TX16S controller, TBS crossfire module on the back, and it came with a couple small receivers that I use in my drone build. I’m all good there, however. I have an R/C A10 Warthog from Motion R/C. Since drone receivers and airplane receivers are different, I need is a receiver that will work in the plane, that will bond with my current transmitter setup.
You need a receiver with PWM output. There is a Crossfire to PWM adapter you can buy.

@@danielthornton1633 Do keep in mind that plane flight controllers often have PWM outputs, and your serial receivers work just fine in that case. I used an F405-WMN flight controller in my plane, and hooked up a Matek R-24D receiver to it exactly like I would on a quad.
So if you have a flight controller, remember that you have this option.

I've only been looking into the hobby for a few short months. I don't know maybe I'm missing something, But for how dangerous these things can be I feel like the current fufillments are pretty reasonable.
Control is definitely a slippery slope, so I can empathize with concerns. For the majority of the hobby lifespan, you could fire up a 50- 100 MPH manual controlled drone and the largest barrier to entry was the money in your pocket. As an outsider looking to get into the hobby, that's a crazy concept.
Cars are way more dangerous than quadcopters.
Yet there's no way to remote-id a car except for looking at the license plate (which may be hidden from view).
How come we dont add remote-id to cars before we add them to toys?
The WORST part about remote-id is that in some cases it also discloses the location of the controller, meaning YOU as a pilot standing somewhere.

That's why remote-id is absolutely unacceptable in terms of both privacy and operator safety.

Same exact thing. What if you happen to stand in a less than reputable part of the town (or less reputable people happen to be nearby, you cant know).
You're broadcasting your location, along with the type of the drone.
What does this mean?
It means you're openly broadcasting a red bullseye on your self saying "$3k-6k drone RIGHT HERE, come take it!"
People get robbed for far less than $3k.
In the civilized safer parts of the world, this isnt a concern.
In USA, it's a big concern.

@@JoshuaBardwell I can see your point of view and in my anger at the situation my words may have belittled efforts and come across like I was unaware, and Im not and didnt mean to. What my real feelings are here, is that just complying like everything is fine is what gives small laws like this power. No one is going to jail for a 300g unregistered drone, and they probably will never get fined. People just keep pushing those boundaries just ever so slightly enough that no reasonable person could enforce such baseless laws and eventually it gets stricken. People fly responsibly as they have been, but with the mildest hint of civil disobedience and its just that bit to help fight the law gaining aocietal inertia and that sort of "its been here for a while" point of view that once settled seems permanent.
Of course I dont expect you to be out there telling people not to comply, but I wouldnt expect to see the opposite either.
When enough people dont comply, there becomes too little infrastructure to reasonably expect people to comply or for the rules to he enforced effectively and it gets dropped or ignored at least for the little guy.
I think of it like with vhs back in the day, where it was debatedly illegal to record tv, but we settled on that its not, and I dont imagine the fact that the common law person thought it was ridiculous and wouldnt comply had a great deal to do with it.
Now, we have a similar situation with Netflix etc, except companirs are winning this because theyve learned to cook the frog and get the wverage person to feel to overwhelmed by their presence to to throw a fuss.
Once again, especially because its your brand/livelyhood, I totally get you complying; not wanting to be shut down in official capacity, but it just makes me sad seeing people who serve as leaders in the space advocating for acceptance, even if reluctantly.
It's certainly a complex situation and so I do understand why my initial rather casual/flippant/inaccurate dismissal came across poorly, but I just think its not the time to give up yet. Stretching the boundaries until its not enforced and hopefully eventually gets removed I think is the only way I can imagine this is done.
I feel like Amazon, UPS etc will forget about drone delivery as a mass method of delivery soon given that with current lithium tech its not viable economically or environmentally and would only really be viable for luxury sub 1 hour deliveries.
After that, there wont be much force keeping the law in place apart from inertia, so I think people just need to not give the law inertia.

Right, right. I understand that point of view. But the difference is, the RemoteID unit is federally regulated. That's where the additional cost comes in. The manufacturer has to 1) make sure the device conforms to all the requirements of the regulation, 2) submit the device for testing to confirm that, 3) apply to the FAA for approval, and 4) perform various on-going tasks as required by the FAA. If at any point, the manufacturer drops the ball, all the people using their hardware are no longer compliant with the rules. Even though NOTHING has changed about their RemoteID device. It's because of all that responsibility that these devices cost money. Because somebody at the manufacturer has to get paid to keep the FAA happy.
