    Another great video; thank you for all the time you have spent with your detailed explanations. I will inspect the state of my tower and maybe decide to do it at the same time as the water pump. Kind regards John

    That is an interesting way to reach that back bolt, lifting up the manifold. Thought never entered my mind. It's been about 5 years since I did mine. I remember I used a long drill bit and drilled the top off the bolt. After soaking it in penetrating oil, was able to use a pair of needle nose pliers and unscrew it. Fitted Torx bolts on the backside afterwards. One other thing you have to be careful of is that corrugated vacuum line. They are brittle and mine actually crumbled while moving it. Another poor design flaw. Replaced it with a brake hose

      The interesting thing about this particular job is that everyone has a different method of doing the job. Good idea to drill off the bolt heads. Got the idea of lifting the manifold from Bob on the Jaguar Forum ended up quite straight forward. Will have to see if I have any air leak problems. Thanks for the comment Damian

    Hi there. Can you remember if there was a gasket as part of the kit where the thermostat went or it was metal to metal only. If no gasket did you use some gasket sealant or similar?
    Reason for question is apparently according to Jag or SNG there should not be a gasket, however all replacement kits I’ve seen come with a gasket. My new one failed and leaked and having no joy finding just the gasket. So it’s a new kit fully or try without one.
    What’s your view please?
    Thanks

      Phil, the kit came with a thermostat and a rubber seal attached to it. It’s this rubber seal around the edge of the thermostat that does all the sealing not any other gaskets. From memory I wasn’t 100% happy with this rubber seal provided with the kit and used another one from an thermostat I had purchased earlier. This one was a bit larger and provided a better seal. Might suggest checking and replacing that seal. Hope that helps and thanks for the comment regards Damian

    Removing the 10 bolts for the intake manifold does not seem to be adequate to raising the intake manifold. Did you miss recording a step or left it out during editing. From jaguar forms and one other detailed before there are more bolts on the throttle body that have to be remove to lift the intake manifold.
    I'm asking as I am doing this right now and am stuck on that particular step.

      Maddalab, No the steps are fully documented for the AJ26 NA. My engine is the AJ26. You could have an AJ28 or AJ34 engine. If your in doubt of the process you can access the year specific Jaguar manuals on our website (www.Modurol.co.uk). which engine is yours? Regards Damian

    It's just too dang bad they don't make an Aluminum version for the 4.2L engines. Just change those rear bolts to Torx head. All of these issues are addressed in the XK8 Bible at drive.google.com/drive/folders/1C7AsBRQSN6sdGiLKKkDvuhxLj9fADVil

    Gaskets or rtv for fitting the tower on or is it just compression fitting?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lenny, the base of the new metal tower has a rubber seal mounted in a groove and the thermostat uses a gasket. Both supplied with the kit. The cap on the top has a rubber seal as well which is handy for topping up the coolant directly into the tower. The coolant hoses are just sealed with the clamps. Thanks for the comment regards Damian

    Would that back bolt be accessible with a box end crowfoot?

    • @ODRModurol
      @ODRModurol  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly but the clearance is very tight, this is just another method that works with standard tools and very little messing about and no rounding off of the bolt heads. Lots of ways of doing it this is just the one I tried, thanks for the comment Damian
