One piece of information I’m surprised you didn’t mention that corroborates your point is that Ralsei specifically says the prophecy was ‘foretold by time and space.’ I have always interpreted this as Gaster being the one who atleast relayed The Legend to Ralsei. We don’t know exactly by which mechanics Gaster contacts Darkeners, but being in the state he is- if he did indeed impart the prophecy to him- it makes sense that from Ralsie’s perspective he would have interpreted it as coming from time and space itself.
I genuinely had like a Mandela moment about this when researching. I knew that this was in the game but when I checked the part where I remembered him saying it (at the giant door), it wasn't there. I just took a deeper look and found that it was simply at the beginning of the LEGEND. So yes, this certainly further supports my theory. Thank you!
@MisterLambda @PlayerCarter. Not only that, but the first time the Legend (Three Heros appeared to banish the angel's heaven) was shown anywhere was on deltarune's website all the way back in 2016, written in WingDings, and before that, for a brief time, an excerpt of entry 17 (THIS NEXT EXPERIMENT SEEMS VERY VERY INTERESTING), also written in WingDings, strongly implying, if not confirming, Gaster is somehow involved with the legend.
@@TheSkyGuy77 Every single theory about Deltarune’s main plot can basically all tie back to “Why is Gaster Gastering?” The knight, where Dess went, the player and Kris, Ralsei, the prophecy, the roaring, Gaster (obv), like everything can tie back to that one question and it’s hilarious because we probably aren’t figuring it out till the last two chapters.
I heard a theory which said that the Man Behind the Tree wrote the card. While Gaster is ever-present, being shattered across time and space, the Man only exists if you want him to. If you accept the egg then he's there, if you don't then there never was a man to begin with. Even the Man's room you have to go searching for if you want it to exist, while (presumably) Gaster's room exists whether you like it or not, just randomly. Gaster, being that fate is sealed (think the intro sequence), directly contrasts the Man, claiming that fate is yours to choose (everything about him is optional). Now that I've showcased how Gaster is distinctly separate from the Man, I'd like to list my reasons for why I think the Man wrote the letter. For starters, the passage of time thing, which you took as being evidence for being shattered across time and space, could instead be an allegory for free will. Here are pieces of evidence that can go for this theory: "It's *more or less* completely illegible" "Or was it the old year?" "Every day is a day for love, *if only you believe it so.* Do you believe it so?" "Now put on your coat and wash your face! Or, put on your face and wash your coat. Not necessarily in that order. Or, in any order at all." The last line "And, the letter was gone." Isn't supportive of the whole free choice thing, but it disappears just like the man does. Thanks for reading my ramblings btw.
Thats a great theory! While Im currently opposed to Gaster and the eggman being separate entities just cause I think its unnecessary to have 2 mystery men, it certainly has grounds to forecast that it will be reinforced in future chapters. Only time will tell.
@@PlayerCarter.Well, we also have whatever's up with Everyman, the person who's behind the secret bosses (most likely Big G), and Dess, so there's already a few mysteries.
@@PlayerCarter. There are plenty of reasons toby would want to make a new mystery man. a very very important one is that his original mystery man isn't going to be a mystery for much longer. Gaster was a question left unanswered specifically to keep us asking. if toby plans to answer that question in this game, then what will we ask after the game is over. obviously the question is who is Dr. Robotnik?
@@PlayerCarter. I personally think it makes sense Toby would separate these two, and given how tonally different the two are (Gaster speaks very coldly and leans into fatalism, while the eggman is whimsical and favors choice) I suspect they will be directly put into conflict later on, either literally or thematically. With Dess, Gaster followers, maybe Chara or Asriel, the eggman, the vessel, and Gaster himself, Toby has created a bit of a cast of people outside of the narrative, which makes me think in future chapters we'll go there and the dynamics of those outside the narrative will be important.
I actually kinda like the idea that the Dark Crystal shows you what the world would look like if you never existed (even if I'm not yet convinced by the evidence provided to form an opinion on its validity). In fact, it's technically possible that that's ALL it does, even in dark worlds, because if you think about it, if Kris IS the one to open all the fountains like has been hinted at, then it means they wouldn't have been opened if Kris did not exist, and so you simply see the empty rooms. The connections to Gaster also mean that there is at the least a SECONDARY link to the idea of "Goners", and the Goner Maker. Goners kid talks about a world in which you do not exist after all, so perhaps these crystals reveal said world to you.
Haven't fully watched, but it's 99% confirmed that Gaster isn't the letter writer. Not only does it not fit his speaking and writing style, it's also in an entirely different style in Japanese, which Toby personally supervises, and Japanese players have stated that you'd need to literally ignore everything about Gaster's previous info to read it as him writing the letter. It's much more likely that it's the egg man since the letter appears out of nowhere, and then disappears once it's done its job. Same as egg dude. Great video though. Did you take inspiration from Andrew on the brain rot meter?
@@PlayerCarter. Building off of what another commenter theorized, the secret bosses are the experiments leading up to being shattered, where Gaster is contacting dark world individuals from Undertale's world through different means with each chapter's boss (going too far on the last attempt and sending himself across space-time rather than just the message, via trying to contact the dark fountain within a dark fountain that some theorize Dess may be in). The shadow crystals may be the original points of contact, and by rejoining them, Gaster hopes that it will allow them to be reverse-engineered to send him back to Undertale, rebuilding him in the process. The Egg Dealer would therefore have been Gaster's last successful contact, where he gifted the knowledge of how dark worlds function and how to see outside of them, but without the knowledge of them not truly being real. This would explain the Letter Writer's hard belief in free-will whereas Gaster never accounts for free will, since everything is so predictable to him. Maybe the Eggs will grant us our final crystal; he wants to demonstrate that the player is choosing to find him of their own free will, and gives us the crystal when we prove him right.
The shadow crystals aren’t given directly to the secret bosses. One of them was inside the machine that Spamton takes over and he was in contact with him long before that
What I was more going for was that Gaster discovered dark worlds (entry 17) which allowed him to contact the secret bosses. When he performed his "very very interesting" experiment he was shattered across time and space which explains why Spamton wasn't given the crystal immediately after getting in contact. In this concept the reason Spamton desires the NEO body so much is because its their only way to possibly regain the success they got from Gaster after he mysteriously vanished (shattered across time and space). I probably should have been more clear on that, thanks for bringing it up!
@@PlayerCarter. love this theory, it articulates a lot of what were previously just kinda vibes in my head lol. i got stuck on this point like spooder too though ngl. i like this explanation--that the contact happened circa entry17, before the shattering, hence why gaster didn't just hand these guys the crystals. i also like this as a non-malicious reason for disappearing on spamton. but in that case, why do u think gaster manipulated the secret bosses the way he did? why help spamton succeed/make him gaster's 'puppet,' or why tell jevil the world was a game, if at that point he had no idea he was gonna shatter and presumably still had the same limited meta knowledge that like, undertale sans does?
@@kiitschky You bring up a good question. Id say the best explanation is that given Gaster's experiments with dark worlds are what ultimately caused him to shatter across time and space, the experiments likely already hinted at some meta knowledge which he relayed to the secret bosses. It's also very important to mention that it would also be pretty world shattering to a darkner if Gaster would have simply told them they are inanimate objects infused with life, which is likely why Spamton desires Kris' soul so much. Though that wouldn't explain why Jevil sees the world as a game as well as the first explanation.
@@PlayerCarter. yea that makes sense!! the meta knowledge being a gradual experiment-based thing rather than a _result_ of getting stuck in some game code. and ur not wrong about the implications, i just can't help but wonder why. why tell these guys reality-shattering knowledge, especially after one of them goes mad from it. what does he gain from this?? why does spamton consider it having made him a puppet?? post-shattering gaster motives are already hard enough to come up with lol (tbh i think it's basically impossible to answer for his motives from 2 chapters alone, i'm just hoping we collectively monkeys-on-keyboards our way to the truth. thanks for the response though still love the theory!!)
My only problem with the video is orecisely this part: 2:21 This is very unlikely, not only the speech pattern doesn't corresponds with the scientific - oddly impersonal way Gaster has been using since forever, but the "infamiliarity" with time can be perfectly explained by things like the character presenting symptoms of dementia or some sort of mental disorder which is not precisely impossible because Jevil and Spamton doesn't seems precisely "stable"
Yeah, I've gotten a few comments regarding this. I would have liked to include counter points to the more disputed claims I made but I substituted that for just weighing them on the brainrot-o-meter to save time.
I've been extremely interested in the idea of the player as a character since Flowey's fourth wall break in undertale yellow. It's even got me theorizing about undertale again, and the possibility of Frisk being one of Gaster's vessels
Loved the editing, especially the opening. Also, a very interesting conclusion that I haven’t seen anyone else arrive at. Great watch. Have a great rest of the semester!
Honestly I've been thinking on this a lot and I think the Secret Bosses are actually prototypes for the connection process given to us in Survey Program/Chapter 1. Jevil is what happened when Gaster connected directly himself. I think Spamton may have actually been connected to a Lightner named Mike with Gaster as a go-between to test connection between the light and dark worlds and -more importantly- what happens when the connection is severed. We'll need to wait for more chapters but I'm confident as we go on we'll see the refinement of Gaster's process with the secret bosses.
Thats certainly a good explanation for progressively stronger secret bosses in the future. From what we've seen chapter 3 and on will be more difficult which would fit with the stronger connection Gaster has to those you fight.
i think mike is probably(?) a darkner given the spamton sweepstakes dialogue about protecting him from tenna. having said that the secret bosses as prototypes of different gaster connections is my fav headcanon at the moment!! it makes sense that after each failure, gaster refines the process with the next boss, and they're all part of an ongoing experiment. it'd make the boss' parallels of kris soo much more direct, and explains why in the sweepstakes spamton implies his puppet-ness is a direct result of his contact with gaster. and it makes gaster scary in an apathetic-god kinda way, but not _evil._
While I'm not sold that the shadow crystals are shards of *gaster* specifically, I think the idea that the shadow crystals are derived of the Entry 17 series of experiments absolutely has merit as a theory - though I definitely agree that if they are pieces of him, that would handily explain his motives in assisting us. Something to think about while we all wait for the next chapters of our lives/Deltarune
@@PlayerCarter. the major problem is explaining why gaster would assist a player who didn't defeat the secret bosses, hence why i'm not fully sold on them being shards of gaster that are critical to his plan. however, if they are shards of gaster, do you have any idea what incorporating them into the shadow mantle would do towards his goal? since we know a recipe exists for it, and seam has explained we need shadow crystals to complete
@@Joblerone I kind of mentioned the shadow mantle in saying that we need to combine shadow crystals for chapter 3. I think its great evidence pointing toward us needing to combine shadow crystals to advance, which ultimately plays into Gaster's hand. I understand that it might seem off that Gaster would continue to connect players that do not collect shadow crystals but I believe they will actually be mandatory to defeat the bosses that we face in future chapters. Thats why we can go back and get them in past chapters, so that we do not get soft locked. Ultimately, this theory just like my last one, revolves around the constant behavior of completionism in players that Toby Fox likes to address.
Why did I only see this now? TH-cam is so weird. But it did finally recommend this to watch, even tho I’m subbed. Anyway I still love your style of editing. And I do like the new background in the opening. The house is so comfy and nostalgic feeling.
@@PlayerCarter. We are on same page here.. But i think Any conclusion is far reaching atm.. we need more information..after chapter 4 everything we think we know right now is going to change, I'm sure of it.
At first I thought that the garbage noise is the sound of a Light World-Dark World boundary. But then I realized. If Gaster heard it after creating his fountain, then why didn't we also hear it while standing in front of the supply closet fountain? Is it because the noise is only emitted by fountains that are currently being created? But we hear the garbage noise from the Bunker for two days straight. Surely, a fountain wouldn't be getting created for 2 days straight?
I think the best thing we can conclude about garbage noise currently is that its simply related to Gaster. Though it being the noise of a light world-dark world boundary is an interesting concept.
@@DogDogGodFog From the way that I see it, Spamton's phone call being deliberately described as garbage noise makes me think it is intended to be seen as a subtle connection to entry 17 and therefore Gaster.
6:31 No human food (I’ve been trying to figure out Uppercase wingdings which are Gaster’s font without a translator a lot recently, and I’m pretty confident in this translation but I might be a bit off.)
3 things 1st you should also dig into the post genocide ending where a voice comes to buy your soul in exchange for letting you play the game with a new ending [alot of people think this is chara i believe its gaster, who works with chara which explains why he has our soul in deltarune we sold it to him. this would also mean genocide route is the canon ending to undetale.] 2nd: look into why gaster was erased why we are the angel and why toby erased him, for me its pretty simple toby tried to erase gaster but failed and made him way stronger so he enlisted us[the player/angel of -no- mercy to help him. 3rd: you should look into why gaster from undertale and deltarune MIGHT be the same gaster for me its also simple, gaster started as someone who wanted to help the underground but after his eraser by toby he slowly became corrupted like we did in undertale and chose to hurt others for fun. he is the scientist of fun [aus] after all.
honestly i think gaster likes us because we are like him and remind himself of a younger him in a way, so curious about everything and not afraid to get our hand dirty. its why you only see him take genocide players and NOT pacifist players, not because they are evil or did something heinous but because they remind him of himself, wanting more and more info about the world they are in and willing to hurt others to get it.
Certainly some great ideas for future videos/theories, I appreciate the time you took to write the suggestions. I am currently bent on another theory atm for my next video (when I become free to work on it) but I can never have too many ideas for future ones!
I really like this theory, it’s also feels like first theory I have seen In a while that I don’t have any major gripes with the only thing I don’t agree with is that gaster wrote the valentines, the letter doesn’t have any gasterism a term I am coining right now stuff that almost certainly means gaster like 666, garbage noise, the phrases very very interesting and darker yet darker, wing dings. Instead I think it is more likely a chapter 3 character like how we got one from elnina and lanino maybe its even the secret boss
@@PlayerCarter. actually, with deltarune, gaster is basically BEGGING us to dig through it (considering the unused dialouge labeled "unused" in the game files, something you don't do unless to signal something)
a bit of evidence against gaster writing the letter, is contrasting how the person who wrote the letter speaks and how gaster speak. Gaster often speaks with long pauses between short words and phrases. for example his famous phrase: "very very interesting" then there is every thing about the twitter stuff. The only exception being the goner maker scene, but even then there are still pauses often found in his speach. on top of that he is very methodical with his wording, he uses extremely precise wording, often using long words when shorter similar words would have worked fine. Basically he speaks like a scientist. and of course he repeats words often. the letter on the other hand, the speaker is very confused and unsure, they speak in a melodic cherry tone. whie yes the repeat phrases, the mix up the order of these words and phrases quite often. Further more whenever gaster has talked about deltarune they say it like that deltarune not delta rune, they reference the game it'self instead of the legend. I have no doubt that they created the legend, and maybe they are wondering about the legend instead of the game. But one thing in the letter is they are asking for our help, to help someone, and then has trouble remembering who(maybe the person they are trying to remember is gaster).
You make great points. I would have liked to mention counterpoints in the video, but it would honestly have doubled the run time. To substitute, I used the brainrot-o-meter to concisely convey the plausibility of my claims.
2:55 flowey maybe,he has a LOT of similar and parallels to gaster.enough for it own video and theory but flowey knows about the real world and even hacked toby twitter almost exactly how the dude theoried to be gaster did.from what i have seen so far what people theorize gaster to be in deltarune is just canon flowey
@@PlayerCarter. I had an interesting thought that, if the letter was written by egg man... ... egg man could be Grandpa Semi. Remember how "Metal Crusher" was being honked by one of the cars? And how the egg man apparently shows up there? And the Valentines letter almost seems like a forgetful, old man going in circles, with how he talks. Egg man isn't Gaster, but instead, the ORIGINAL unused character.
When people deny the player’s importance to deltarune’s story and meta narrative it just makes me ponder if we even played the same game, let alone the same series of games
i think the one piece of info that i disagree with is the valentines card, because i saw a theory that it was the river person from undertale, (who could maybe also be the Man from the tree but probably not (though they seem to maybe know eachother)) that made so much sense that any other theory for that specifically just doesn't compete. it was about how the text was phrased and how it is similar
Love the editing, hope you find a better software as well. I did wanna mention that on the topic of Gaster writing the valentines letter and not speaking like he does in the goner maker segment or save menus, maybe the song “Another Him” hints at the possibility of the egg Gaster and goner maker Gaster being two different pieces of Gaster? On a side note, the light world and dark world menus being so different, like you having settings in the dark world menu where Gaster is more prominent, could it be a similar case to the save files? Anywho, good luck with school and life!
I have heard of the multiple Gasters for multiple fragments concept. I'm not entirely opposed to it but I personally think it'd make for a more cohesive character if he was just one entity.
This video is great! I only have one nip-pic I wanted to say. I just wanted to point out that the whole gaster letter is written in a way that’s not like gaster but hey it’s still an awesome video!
Honestly baffles me that people believe ANYONE aside from Gaster wrote that Valentine’s card. It makes way too much sense with what we know and literally reads like "hey how are you enjoying my game lmao".
@@PlayerCarter. We've seen this guy talking like... five times or less? We don't have that much to go off... even less for those who think it's "Mike" or the egg man (under the assumption the egg man isn't Gaster lmao)
It’s so incredibly out of character for gaster if he wrote it. He’s not some silly forgetful guy he’s cold and calculated he never speaks like that letter. It’s so much more likely to be the eggman
@Melody-jp9pd We barely even know Gaster's character, though?? Like I've said already, we've barely seen this guy speak, and usually it's been in a work setting. We don't know how he speaks casually.
One thing to mention- We actually don’t know who wrote entry 17- Gaster having wrote it technically a theory (hypothesis supported by evidence) Never has it been stated he did- Now I’m not saying he didn’t write it, he’s definitely the most likely candidate but we don’t 100% know this
Hi. About "finding your reasoning as flawed": yes, I do. I actually disagree with about half of what you said. Here is what I think (also sorry for big text). 1. Gaster wrote the letter. I don’t really understand the evidence that you gave. If he is shattered across time and space, then… he should be dead I assume? But since it is not the case, and he can clearly speak to us without confusing order of words and stuff, I don’t think it explains the confusion in the letter. Also, when the letter came out, I first assumed that it was Gaster (cuz who else could it be?), but recently I found this video that changed my opinion (I first wanted to add the link, but then youtube hid my comment for 10 days before I remembered that that's a thing -_- so there is the title instead: "I SOLVED Gaster's Mysterious Valentines Card | Deltarune Newsletter Discussion and Analysis"). You should definitely watch it, it explains a lot. 2. Gaster is the egg man. The only evidence that you have is that only eggs and shadow crystals don’t change between the worlds. Well, first, shadow crystals do change into glass. Second: shadow crystals are not connected to Gaster (I’ll explain later). Also, even if it was all true (if shadow crystals didn’t change and were connected to Gaster), it still wouldn't prove anything. Correlation does not imply causation. Especially if the correlation is that 2 items have 1 similar property. So, for now it would be right to not assume that all mysterious characters are Gaster. If you have 10 unsolved crimes, you don’t address them all to 1 person until you find counter evidence. You instead look for correlations and slowly combine them in groups, while always remembering that those correlations might all be coincidental. 3. Gaster is the entity (the one who spoke to secret bosses). I’m probably the internet’s biggest disbeliever in this theory. The reasons you gave: first: similar themes. As you said, Gaster’s theme plays all over the Deltarune, so it doesn’t really prove anything. Second: garbage noise. I never understood why this is an argument, and yet it seems to be the only actual argument that made people think that this theory is essentially a fact. Hey, guys. I called the phone, and I also heard a garbage noise. Does that mean that I’m a secret boss too? Am I also being gastered? As we can scientifically prove, our phone always produces garbage noise when used in a dark world. And so does Spamton’s phone. And, apparently, so did Gaster’s phone when he was recording entry 17. Like, the first time I heard garbage noise I thought “Oh, so that’s what this noise means. It goes from the dark worlds. That’s why it plays on entry 17.” Apparently dark worlds generate some kind of signal that can be heard by a phone (and probably by some other machines that Gaster used for research). In this case it’s not weird that there was a garbage noise, it is weird that there was something besides garbage noise. In theory they might have spoken to someone before the dark world was created (which is very weird and hurts my brain), in which case addisons visited Spamton and heard the noise one or two hours before you meet him for the first time. Or the noise started when the dark world became a thing (probably in the night before chapter 1). Either way there is no connection to Gaster so far.
I'll try to address your claims sufficiently without any paragraphs. 1. You are right that there is a weak argument for this, that is why it is labeled possible/indirect evidence. The problem with this one is that it does support a rather critical claim of my theory, that being the real time awareness. But not only can we certainly not rule out the possibility that this is Gaster, he also is very likely the voice in the goner maker which would also make him the voice that announced Deltarune on twitter. Both of these would effectively replace the letter in supporting this claim, I just regrettably failed to fully mention them. 2. You are right that there is a weak argument for this, that is why it is labeled possible/indirect evidence that supports noncritical claims of the theory. I wouldn't rely on it but I also certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility that it is Gaster. 3. You are right that Gaster's theme is in a way common in deltarune's ost, but not only does this not invalidate the direct connection it makes to Gaster, the secret boss themes are also weighed as one of the closest to Gaster's theme in the video I linked (only under another him). The garbage noise argument is honestly very subjective, I can see where you are coming from. But the way I and what I believe most people see it as, is that the entry 17 audio being intentionally labeled as "garbage noise" is what truly makes it interesting. The fact Toby went out of his way to connect these 3 things gives me the impression he intended us to ultimately connect it to Gaster. Also thanks very much for putting time into critiquing my video! Its not only very helpful but also very nice to see people putting thought into what I make!
i like the theory! also, can i recommend shotcut as editing software? its literally free (its open source like blender is) so i cant see much harm in trying it out
So this has something to do with the vessel we make. I find it interesting how gasters number is 666. Meanwhile, We can have a vessel that has the 6th head the 6th body and the 5th legs. 665. Doubt it means anything tho.
Pretty sure I've seen it before but I skimmed through it again. We certainly come to the same conclusion on some things, but not only have I discussed Deltarune's awareness of the player's behavior/completionism before, our videos also diverge in many ways. This isn't a big deal in my opinion but I still wanted to just make sure I didnt do anything remotely questionable ethically speaking. Thank you for pointing this out.
I really like the unique editing here. The only thing that I think you should change is the font, which doesn’t feel the most professional. (Also this is coming from the one guy in the deltarune community who cares more about the editing than the actual video)
@@PlayerCarter. ok well I don’t think this was the best font. Heck I know that pretty much all deltarune TH-camrs (including me) use the deltarune/undertale/determination font for their videos but I feel like it would fit you the most given how everything is already in a pixel style. Also where did you get the background at 09:17?
@@SullyTheLightnerd I dont think my software can import fonts stupidly enough. The background was just a recording from chapter 1, the shadow crystal is just hiding the fun gang behind it.
@@PlayerCarter. please tell it I'm so intrigued why is that the Wingdings text? Wait my bad I flipped the N and the O lmao It's NO HUMAN FOOD That's a reference to something, I can't remember
@@kiwipomegranate Alright, it's a reference to one of Andrew Cunningham's streams. I wasn't paying too much attention watching it but there was one time where Gaster just popped up and said "no human food".
Thats incredibly kind for you to offer. But I'm currently very fortunate to not need to pay any bills. Simply liking, subscribing, or sharing is more than enough of a pay for me. I really appreciate it.
Dess could be third candidate. Think about it. Dess has a lot of parallels between Ness from Homestuck, the guitar, bat, her personality are pretty similar not mentioning the name itself that has 1 letter difference. She was probably the one to save the world at first but she astrayed from the path of foretold legend and is actually opening the dark fountains. Or she got kidnapped by someone that wouldn't want that to happen as it would break plans for connection with the player, eventually she could simply save the world before and just got stuck for unknown reason.
i really don't believe that the valentine's card was from gaster, it just doesn't have any of his calling cards besides being spooky and mysterious, it sounds a lot more like how gerson talked in undertale in my opinion
A little bandaid solution at the moment, if you're in the ACDS discord server I am there under the same profile pic and username. So you should be able to look me up and dm me through that.
6:54 ANOTHER similarity but this one is a strecth.flowey is the only character to have song name him/his or some other pronouns.coincidence? I THINK NOT.
One piece of information I’m surprised you didn’t mention that corroborates your point is that Ralsei specifically says the prophecy was ‘foretold by time and space.’
I have always interpreted this as Gaster being the one who atleast relayed The Legend to Ralsei.
Great video! Deltarune is so obviously a Gaster fan-fiction session that I can’t see how anyone can deny he’s in the game.
Einstein said it himself like wth
That's more or less where my theories end up.
Gaster created this connection device connecting us to Deltarune.
The question is why tho
@@TheSkyGuy77 Every single theory about Deltarune’s main plot can basically all tie back to “Why is Gaster Gastering?”
The knight, where Dess went, the player and Kris, Ralsei, the prophecy, the roaring, Gaster (obv), like everything can tie back to that one question and it’s hilarious because we probably aren’t figuring it out till the last two chapters.
Here are pieces of evidence that can go for this theory:
"It's *more or less* completely illegible"
"Or was it the old year?"
"Every day is a day for love, *if only you believe it so.* Do you believe it so?"
"Now put on your coat and wash your face! Or, put on your face and wash your coat. Not necessarily in that order. Or, in any order at all."
The last line "And, the letter was gone." Isn't supportive of the whole free choice thing, but it disappears just like the man does.
With Dess, Gaster followers, maybe Chara or Asriel, the eggman, the vessel, and Gaster himself, Toby has created a bit of a cast of people outside of the narrative, which makes me think in future chapters we'll go there and the dynamics of those outside the narrative will be important.
i've had the thought that the shadow crystals might literally be pieces of gaster forever, and someone finally covered it!! thank you
6:31 "NO HUMAN FOOD" unexpected kissie cutie reference
All I could think of for a secret wingdings message. Glad to see someone noticed!
So you're telling me this beauty of editing isn't even near to your true power? A plausible, unconvoluted theory, good job!
Thanks x2. I sure wonder what my videos would look like if I didn't have to use a zoom in tool to simply move things across the screen.
Certainly a valid idea. Its a great explanation to make their use more consistent.
Interesting, I didn't know the newsletters had japanese translation. Also yes, the brainrot-o-meter is inspired from Andrew Cunningham.
@@PlayerCarter. yea that makes sense!! the meta knowledge being a gradual experiment-based thing rather than a _result_ of getting stuck in some game code.
and ur not wrong about the implications, i just can't help but wonder why. why tell these guys reality-shattering knowledge, especially after one of them goes mad from it. what does he gain from this?? why does spamton consider it having made him a puppet?? post-shattering gaster motives are already hard enough to come up with lol
(tbh i think it's basically impossible to answer for his motives from 2 chapters alone, i'm just hoping we collectively monkeys-on-keyboards our way to the truth. thanks for the response though still love the theory!!)
My only problem with the video is orecisely this part:
2:21 This is very unlikely, not only the speech pattern doesn't corresponds with the scientific - oddly impersonal way Gaster has been using since forever, but the "infamiliarity" with time can be perfectly explained by things like the character presenting symptoms of dementia or some sort of mental disorder which is not precisely impossible because Jevil and Spamton doesn't seems precisely "stable"
Theres always something meta to uncover about anything that has to do with Toby Fox.
He fell into his creation but we never knew how until now. He was kicked.
11:55 I caught that GMan reference
Loved the editing, especially the opening. Also, a very interesting conclusion that I haven’t seen anyone else arrive at. Great watch.
Have a great rest of the semester!
Thank you!
Fair, as long as you believe in the shadow crystals being the motivation aspect, I'm satisfied.

@@PlayerCarter. The 'it's just Gaster' interpretation doesn't make much sense when the noise plays even when we try to call Toriel.
@@DogDogGodFog From the way that I see it, Spamton's phone call being deliberately described as garbage noise makes me think it is intended to be seen as a subtle connection to entry 17 and therefore Gaster.

3 things
1st you should also dig into the post genocide ending where a voice comes to buy your soul in exchange for letting you play the game with a new ending [alot of people think this is chara i believe its gaster, who works with chara which explains why he has our soul in deltarune we sold it to him. this would also mean genocide route is the canon ending to undetale.]
2nd: look into why gaster was erased why we are the angel and why toby erased him, for me its pretty simple toby tried to erase gaster but failed and made him way stronger so he enlisted us[the player/angel of -no- mercy to help him.
3rd: you should look into why gaster from undertale and deltarune MIGHT be the same gaster for me its also simple, gaster started as someone who wanted to help the underground but after his eraser by toby he slowly became corrupted like we did in undertale and chose to hurt others for fun.
he is the scientist of fun [aus] after all.
honestly i think gaster likes us because we are like him and remind himself of a younger him in a way, so curious about everything and not afraid to get our hand dirty.
its why you only see him take genocide players and NOT pacifist players, not because they are evil or did something heinous but because they remind him of himself, wanting more and more info about the world they are in and willing to hurt others to get it.

a thing about gaster being the voice on the vessil create screens, the text used is specificaly text type 66, i think.
I wish I could check the files to confirm that, but it would make Gaster mad.
@@PlayerCarter. actually, with deltarune, gaster is basically BEGGING us to dig through it (considering the unused dialouge labeled "unused" in the game files, something you don't do unless to signal something)
Wasn't it 666? I definitely saw it on Wiki, so maybe I'm wrong 😅
a bit of evidence against gaster writing the letter, is contrasting how the person who wrote the letter speaks and how gaster speak. Gaster often speaks with long pauses between short words and phrases. for example his famous phrase:
"very
very
interesting"
then there is every thing about the twitter stuff.
The editing is so good bro! I feel like im watching game theory but without the screaming

When people deny the player’s importance to deltarune’s story and meta narrative it just makes me ponder if we even played the same game, let alone the same series of games
An argument can be made, but I too do not like the argument.
i think the one piece of info that i disagree with is the valentines card, because i saw a theory that it was the river person from undertale, (who could maybe also be the Man from the tree but probably not (though they seem to maybe know eachother)) that made so much sense that any other theory for that specifically just doesn't compete. it was about how the text was phrased and how it is similar
Fair, thats more or less why I weighed it so low on the brainrot-o-meter. Its a fair thing to consider but I can understand people being skeptical.

Yeah, I hope the next one gives some good insight on how development is going.
One thing to mention-
We actually don’t know who wrote entry 17-
Gaster having wrote it technically a theory (hypothesis supported by evidence)
Never has it been stated he did-
Now I’m not saying he didn’t write it, he’s definitely the most likely candidate but we don’t 100% know this

Dess has a lot of parallels between Ness from Homestuck, the guitar, bat, her personality are pretty similar not mentioning the name itself that has 1 letter difference.
She was probably the one to save the world at first but she astrayed from the path of foretold legend and is actually opening the dark fountains.
Or she got kidnapped by someone that wouldn't want that to happen as it would break plans for connection with the player, eventually she could simply save the world before and just got stuck for unknown reason.
good
Thank you!
nice
Thank you!
i really don't believe that the valentine's card was from gaster, it just doesn't have any of his calling cards besides being spooky and mysterious, it sounds a lot more like how gerson talked in undertale in my opinion
But you cant deny it's possibility, thats why its at the bottom of my list.
you are a needed voice

thanks for letting me know! I'll get it working.
A little bandaid solution at the moment, if you're in the ACDS discord server I am there under the same profile pic and username. So you should be able to look me up and dm me through that.

I guess you could possibly tie song name pronouns to generally meta characters.
