    This is very similar to a game called the wooden ocean, but the main reason I like this theory and that game is because it does what the matrix does with nested realities, but doesn’t invalidate the previous realities. The dark world in a sense is just as real as every other world and can influence them the same way others influence it it’s just on a lower level in the tier

    the bits about how ralsei treats the player are so so important i think. its easy to interpret it as infatuation, but i think you nailed it by pointing out that ralsei tells lancer that appealing to lightners is the only way to feel fulfilled, and by pointing out that hes fine with the player choosing to hit him. i think ralsei feels like the only way for himself to have any value is by appealing to the player, he's been waiting in that castle his whole life for them to show up, it makes sense that he'd feel like his only purpose is to serve them, and that he's nothing without them

    One thing to mention- We actually don’t know who wrote entry 17- Gaster having wrote it technically a theory (hypothesis supported by evidence) Never has it been stated he did- Now I’m not saying he didn’t write it, he’s definitely the most likely candidate but we don’t 100% know this

    Getting philosophical, the difference between our reality and the fictions we create is that we are self-aware and have agency. We pretend or speak as if characters think, because of immersion, but that immersion is us projecting our own thoughts onto the fiction, as if we were in their circumstance. The crux of this argument is, of course, that we really do have agency and selfhood. Rene Descartes famously argued "I think therefore I am" specifically in reply to a hypothetical that his whole reality and his thoughts were the product of a higher-reality demon writing a fiction. There are lots of ways people try to reason away consciousness as merely an illusion, but I just don't find them convincing - so the only question left is, having distinguished our reality from fictional ones, is there nevertheless a higher reality? Basically, is there a God or gods? And how does the interaction work when the people of the lower reality have true agency, rather than being a determined story? And the rest is religion.

  • @eeh2370
    @eeh2370 หลายเดือนก่อน

    22:36, you make an implication that gaster sent a message before he was created/determined as you put it… this seems impossible to act without yet being at all since the world doesn’t exist without someone from a reality greater to make it. It’s possible to explain… kinda… if we apply the logic from earlier that faster can travel through time and if we claim a dream is on the same reality as a video game, but This logic is far reaching and flimsy, you could have on a different note brought up how the darker worlds seem to always be, maybe not in full form but exist in some capacity before they are determined what they are in the world ( all of the characters in a dark world are born of things already in the room when the dark world is created, and seem like they remember a time before, kinda…) However you randomly threw out that gaster could break reality to whisper in Toby’s ear and that doesn’t sit well with me… the rest of the video is pretty good though and I am enjoying the thought experiment, and the rational… though I’m used to determination meaning strength of will and less shape of reality, and it threw me for a loop recalibrating to recognize the later over the former every time you say determined… both work I’m just not used to it in the context.

      You present a very good question! It goes along with the fact that dark worlds seemingly exist before they are created. I plan to answer all this in an upcoming theory, I have some good answers in the works.

      That's a good point, but it would still leave the question of why dark world hp does not affect light world hp. Which is the most clear cut evidence for this concept imo. Id say the best explanation currently is that the indirect action of the lightners was what ultimately hurt Berdly in this case.

    This video is an absolutely fascinating look into what Deltarune implies about it's in game reality, and probably the best explanation I've seen in a theory video like this. It gets to the core of what I think makes Deltarune feel special and not just like any other cute quirky indie game when you dig down deep into it's lore, both in game, and the backstory of it's creation. I do think that there's potentially another interesting "layering" of realities, or specifically, hierarchy of beings in these realities that may end up being very relevant to the story. That is the division between those who create, and those who merely exist within another being's creation, whether they be lower or higher beings themselves. This is in our layer of reality, authorship, and in the Light world, the act of creating a Dark Fountain. While all lightners or "real" people in our layer have the same standing as beings of the same layer of reality, when they enter the creation of another such being from their layer, they are immersed as you put it, and are now not only at the whims of beings who are powerful in that layer, but at the whims of the creator from their originating layer who willed those lesser beings to be so within their context. You refer to the player as a "god" in this video and in the sense that we are from the same layer, and it is true, we do have absolute power to delete the game or play it through. However we as players are lesser, minor gods in comparison to Toby Fox (and his team), as he is the author whose determination determined all that is in Undertale's or Deltarune's world. It will be interesting to see if there is a similar dynamic between the lightners who are merely visiting a dark world in their adventures and the Knight (or Knights, depending on what theories you subscribe to). The hierarchy of author over reader/player, that of creator over passive observer, lots of interesting things to explore down that avenue. I will admit, as crazy as it sounds, I do somewhat like the idea of Toby's dream being inspiration sent from another layer of reality, by Gaster or otherwise as it gives Deltarune itself an almost "divine inspiration" vibe. Do I actually believe this silly little game is a product of trans-dimensional inspiration or supernatural occurrence....? That it's more real than text and images on a screen? Ehhh. I can't say that I really do in a concrete sense without feeling very silly myself. But in a world that seems ever more materialistic and fatalistic by the day, and not in a good direction, I cling to little bits of enchantment where I can get them. I do believe they give life meaning regardless of if they are literally true or not. Plus, it's just fun to imagine what might be out there. Or maybe I'm just crazy after all.

    Clam Girl kinda literally talk about our reality by saying that time for meeting "Suzy" is fast approaching. How in the hell Goner might know that except... well, knowing our time and space or at least having a "source of information" - having an idea about when and how is DELTARUNE being delivered in our hands? It is different than other Goners too. Other Goners didn't really bash about us, players. Clam Girl Goner straight up is tearing up illusion to tell us "hey, new "game" is going to be soon, get ready". If anything, that and fact about how Toby named own company (Royal Sciences, LLC) for me is a good reason to believe that breaking fourth wall will be very, very important for meta lore. To the point title of this video is most likely true.

    • @PlayerCarter.
      @PlayerCarter. หลายเดือนก่อน

      I certainly do not doubt deltarune will "break the fourth wall" given how the roaring would transcend the dark world into the greater reality of the light world. Though I think however it is going to do this will be something we've never seen before.

Mirroring your refusal to stop and smell the roses in Undertale if you decide to be a jerk. But I think there was a missed opportunity to address how their immersion also hurts them. As Berdly's wing gets fried if you don't try to save him.

    there’s a book called the possible world of hypertext fiction that uses an ontological approach to fiction (study of logical worlds/realities), thought you might find it interesting in how it talks about these worlds. the layers are a lot like you talk about with the Actual World (ours), the Textual Actual World (the one described), and the Text Space (??? keep forgetting the specific name but it’s the text and actual layer that players “co-author”). metalepsis is a big scary word they use to describe entities moving between logically disconnected worlds, like a player immersing themself in a game world. this doesn’t really have any bearing on your theory itself, just a different way of talking about the same concept and I wanted to let you know that there are people out there writing books about stuff like this. it’s super interesting and the way deltarune uses these ideas in service of its storytelling is really cool and worth exploring!
