Just found this video because I'm mulling over buying this lens..... Very nice video and thank you for publishing the wonderful examples of the stills ...I'm smiling really big now because.. whether it's this big zoom or my 15 mm 1.7, the "Leica look" really comes true and holds across the entire line. I was at the Bonneville Salt flats in Utah just a few weeks ago and a lot of my images (also in black and white) would fit right along next to yours... At least in my mind.... The 50 -100 is a lot cheaper,,, but I think I'm going to hold out for this one now for sure.
Thank's for sharing. This body is very attractive, and so is this lens : very compact, very sharp, relatively light, and not too expensive. The only reservation I may have is concerning the dynamic rang. On your pictures, it looks like the M4/3 sensor faces some difficulties with regard to high and low light in the same picture.
Does the M240 mean you are a Leica man ? Yes sadly the Dynamic range is not as good as a FF , but for such a small sensor it does very well. If you want more DR then you can shoot in High Res mode.
Darryl, love your channel - I shoot on an S1H. I've been noticing banding in blue skies lately when I shoot in 4K or higher. I noticed it a bit in this video as well in the blue sky. Is this something you've noticed in the past with Lumix cameras, or is it just a compression issue? Thanks.
Hi Darryl, I've been looking at that lens for shooting sport (rugby, soccer, surfing). I've got the 100-400 but I want a faster lens (2.8 - 4). Do you think with your experience that you would 9-10 frames (or 20f electronic shutter) per second burst shooting with that lens? I found with the 35-100 f2.8 that the burst shooting is super slow and not that useful for sport. My 14-140 laps it (but slower f-stops). Thanks. Love the channel.
Hi Matthew, I have tested the lenses while shooting an Ironman race (triathlon), on the G9 it worked great, missed a few times, but nothing I would worry about. I normally use the Nikon D5 with my 300mm f2.8 and the G9 with the 100-400 was much lighter and got the shots I wanted. Hope this helps
@@matthewmockovic4351 50-200mm in my mind is better for fast moving subject, I have always thought of the 100-400 as a wildlife lens, but it can still shoot sports.
Panasonic interview said they make the hood slightly flexible to absorb shock so as not to damage the lens if hit. Not sure if that's true, but I have heard from other lens manufacturer that stiff metal hood transfers all shock to lens and can damage lens if hood impacts
Nice images I love the shot of the isolated surfer and dramatic sky especially at 4.40. I don't have use for this lens atm largely taking built up city scenes but I have the other 2 Pana Leica f2.8-4 zooms and I adore them. When my pocket allows & need arises I would love to own this lens Darryl.
Great video Darryl, very helpful. With the firmware updates do you think the GH5 and G9 autofocus capabilities in video are the same or is one better than the other?
Darryl Carey i want to upgrade from G85 to G9 too, but i always spend my saving up on lenses 🤣🤣🤣 G9 body is just sexy, i think it's the best design of M43 camera right now
Excellent work Darryl and this coming from another Darryl (a U.S. version). Great combo and hopefully a buyer in the near future. I don't know what fuss is on the Sony A7 III since the ergonomics are terrible (small body/huge lenses).
Hi U.S Version Darryl .... Full frame sensors are better in some ways, low light photography. But I'm happy to give them up because the G9 and lenses are so nice. Plus I
Enjoyed the video and subscribed... Very impressed with the g9... Havent invested yet from point n shoot g7x markii but liking idea of micro four thirds rather than the bulky cropped or full frame systems... 50-200 with is very impressive... Keep those reviews coming... I maybe forking out a couple of grand when i check the back of the sofa. 😁
I know I'm way late here. I've been looking at the 50-200 and ran into this video. Well done video, BTW. When you're using the L.monochrome D style are you adjusting other parameters (e.g., contrast, filter color, grain) and are you doing any post processing on them. They are impressive. Just subscribed, to your channel. Thanks much.
Hi Bradley, welcome to the channel 😁 The photos from the L.monochrome D have not been edit, all my photos in my videos are direct out of the camera unless I have done some editing to push the photos. Never understand who people review a camera or lens and then show over edited photos
Hi Darryl, trying to make up my mind about a GH5,G9 as we want to do a mix of video and stills for our farming business, my question is, how good is the stills on the GH5 vs the G9 please? also, do you have the colour versions of the Stills and Video you just took on the 50-200 please? regards Chris, Western Australia PS great to see you working with Lok again :)
Nice review mate. Love the monochrome profile on the G9! Cant wait to give that lens a try =) The stabilization was awesome in the videos. Was that using IS lock as well??
Frank Feng your 55-250 is not the same speed... and it’s not just about aperture. The lens has beautiful color rendition. The canon 55-250 is a great budget lens though.
Please don't do slideshows with this annoying white frame, it's difficult to judge sharpness if the actual image only uses half the screen area. Thank you! :)
I am truly amazed at the ability of how you shoot the long tele with video. That is skill and technology at it's finest.

Lovely hand-held video. I was looking at the 50-200 and the 200mm. Although this is a slower lens, the variable zoom makes it more practical.
Its a little slower, but I can live with that. Very compact lens and works great with the G9 and GH5.

Not noticed that before, it could be compression. Have you tried exporting in ProRes?

Curious about your settings to ensure such bliss non-shake in video?
Impressive IBIS/Dual IS, makes me want to get the lens for the GH5, especially seeing how compact it is.
I tested the lens on the GH5 yesterday and it works just the same as the G9...
Looking forward to it - thanks.
Great video Darryl, very helpful. With the firmware updates do you think the GH5 and G9 autofocus capabilities in video are the same or is one better than the other?
They feel the same to me, the GH5 maybe 5% better on face tracking now with the new firmware
Great review, thanks!
a very good and quality review, subcribed!!

The G9 is an awesome camera, its like a baby Nikon DSLR :)....It even has a Nikon style on and off switch 😱😉
Is this better than the Olympus 40-150 2.8?
Great video! Thank you
What a great camera and lens combo! Thanks for sharing this with us :) great channel you have here
Pro trick: you can watch series on kaldrostream. I've been using it for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Joshua Idris definitely, I have been watching on kaldroStream for since december myself :)

Great overview of the lens, keep up the good work
That's incredible! Does IS Lock need to be compatible with the lens or is it an IBIS super feature (well, it looks like it)?
Only works with Panasonic lenses
Darryl Carey Thanks! 👍
Hello, did you try the 100-400 of leica too ? If so, what's ur toughts about it compare to the 50-200 ? :)
Cheers, William.
The 100-400 is a nice lens, but the 50-200mm is much smoother to zoom and smaller.

Chris Meuzelaar if i have to put thing up between GH5 and G9, it's so simple
GH5 = video
G9 = still

Hi Ryan, the L.Monochrome.D is soo nice. The slow-mo was using the I.S Lock on the G9.
Impressive! 🤠🎥👍
Very well done and enjoyable video. Keep up the good work.

mate who was the music you used by?
the music was from www.epidemicsound.com
That monochrome profile would give Fuji’s Acros a run for its money. When you coming to Vancouver buddy?
Thanks for sharing
Is the lens usable on the smaller gx9?
PS Currently using a GX7.
Would you share with us why you chose Panasonic vs. Olympus?
Will cover that in a video soon :)
Do you won any "step of light" using teleconvertor?... doesn´t looks likeRegards from MX
its just over 1 stop with a 1.4 Tele and 2 stops with a 2.0 Tele
How smooth is zoom in?
What brand is that teleconverter you are using?
Are M43 lenses usually this expensive? Cuz my Canon 55-250 costs around $200 as much and is just as fast and light.

mate can you try it with the 2x? let me know if you do...it will take it to 800mm
thoughts on the G9 with a 100-400mm leica?
Can you use the teleconverter on any lens ?
The Teleconverter only works with some of the lenses, best to check the Panasonic website.
for MFT it is just the Pany Leica 200mm and 50-200
Do I want the 200 or the 50-200?! Help!!
Personally I think the 50-200 is much better value for money.
