Ratchet straps like you used are good and strong. I recently helped a guy get his Honda Civic out of a creek with two. One around a tree to hook the other ratchet strap to. The straps are pretty strong. You can also use the strap as leverage to pull the ratchet handle.
You just made my day! As an electrician ,I've used them many times for pulling very heavy cables into facilities (three-phase 750 kcmil 500ft) so i knew they were strong, but for whatever reason I just couldn't picture it being able to do longer pulls until you wound that sucker up LOL I thought you were going to use it kind of like a tugger or a capstan, with five wraps and then just let the excess go off the side. But that was great! I've already got a couple taken apart and I'm about to go out now and pull a mini van out of the mud, can't get another vehicle in a good angle to pull it out
Dude! Great idea..i,m a trucker and some times you need to do a little load shift and the ratchet strap does it, but if you want to get smoother operation out of it, use a little wd40 . Slicks it right up and relases soooo much better
Yup, I noticed he did have a small b,oak hanging from the end of his, he just didn’t mention it. He could have ripped the four wheel in half even more had he used it!
Your ratchet strap conversion inspired me to take the cable off my fried winch and run it through a ratchet strap but I left the cable long (40 feet). Just slide the cable through the slot in the ratchet and adjust it to any length. I used it in tandem with a come-along to raise the welded frames for my shop! They are +/- 300 pounds apiece.
I have used ratchet straps for a long time as emergency extraction tools. This video is something I haven't thoughtb of, with the use of paracord-like rope. The only issues I had with using ratchet straps was the strap getting too many wraps and no longer usable, so I always had to use 2, one until full, then the other, in sequence, one after the other. This idea you have demonstrated looks like it would make my way obsolete. Thank yoy.
I'm in the UK, not sure which part of the States you're in but I spent a little time in Mississippi and Alabama back in the 90s and this sure gives me a hankering to go back there again
very cool !! dad always told us boys , to learn how to do things on your own incase no ones around to help you , found myself lifting heavy things on my own periodically and I've come to love winches -- this is way cool / Thank you for making this video
Maybe weld a small handle extension onto the ratchet handle for leverage. I'd be curious the breaking point for that setup. Genius idea. Greetings from south texas
An older gentleman, who was a logger for many years, taught me to lay a blanket, chain, etc over the line. It will reduce the chance of the line whipping around and hitting someone if it snaps.
Jaymes Moreland that's correct. We do that anytime pulling something with stored force. They make weighted blankets for winching a lot of off roaders use. That's one of the main reasons people are going to synthetic lines for winches, less stored energy. But you still should put something on the line to protect yourself.
Jaymes Moreland I do something like that when using a chainfall to pull anything horizontally, usually on heavy equipment repairs. I put a heavy moving blanket over the chain so when the tension releases the chain doesn't pop up and hit me
great idea! i am already thinking about getting one of those lever operated ratchet winches they use on semi trailers and weldng it to a reciever hitch to make a heavy duty version!

Haha! That poor 4 wheeler! At least the wench did its intended purpose... and more ;). I shared this video on Facebook. Congratulations on the success of your channel brother!
Man, that is a great idea! In NY they can ticket you for unsecured load if your straps are frayed. That 2200 pound cord would be great for replacing those straps. Liked and subscribed a ready
I just looked at a video explaining how to use two double pulley’s used for a young person to pull out a small suv from a ditch. Been there but no pulleys or anything in my big suv in the ditch with 2 feet of snow. Did not have my snowshoes either. My phone worked and I was able to get hold of a big pulley outfit: AAA
Hi just found your channel i like the idea to help my get my skidoo un-stook this was in 2017 any updates to this idea i was think i have a load of Paro Cord good to 500lb would that work any ideas would be great
If you put that cord on a Come-Along you could basically triple the amount of rope pull! I like an earlier comment of making the Come-Along handle detachable as well to make it more packable.
HAHAH Just found your TH-cam page checking out different stuff to do with my new 4 Wheeler. Thats a nice old Hona. Still lots of life left in her!! I just bought a 2016 Polaris Sportsman 850 SP. (well.. it' a year old now), but it has less than 200 miles on it still. I really hope that they make a twin cylinder Yamaha Grizz. They day they do. I'll have one. I went with the Sportsman for the twin Cylinder. Im about 275lbs, and I feel a lot better on a Twin Cylinder. I know a single is fine for anything I do, I just think that a twin runs easier carrying me around on it when it's plowing and what not. Anyways... Great content, Liked and Subbed. Look forward to more!
used two strap rachets to get a car on to a car trailer with no winch.. tightening up the straps. then some one stands on one strap moves car forward, then the other person ratchets their strap then stands on the strap and alternate, was slow but we got the car on the trailer.
I thought you were going to place those blue plastic washers BETWEEN the contacting metal surfaces so it slides smoother with very little resistance? Perhaps that's in version 2.0?
I just bought a brand new ratchet strap for trucks at hardware. 16 dollars AUD. It's rated at 2500 kg. I wonder if using 6mm dyneema rope? Would that work? The rope has over 2000 kg rating. Any reply appreciated. Cheers from Australia 🙂👍👍👍top vid.
Ahh spare parts, lol 😂 congrats on the 20k subs, I'm still slumming at 600 subs 😒 lol. Btw I'm not sure if you ever ended up sending that homestead box, cause I never received it. Thanks for the video!! Take care Justin
Dude that's an awesome idea the strap will take up more space then the para cord depends on what will be used There are some good choices in my yard Not to say thing bad but I think increase the size of the spool a bit Frankly speaking ass kicking idea Thank you PS got lots of busted ones laying around going to put them to use pretty sure that there is nothing that can't be pulled or tied down and depending on how much like you may like to one day untangle more line better reach better then the cheesey crap out there now again thanks for your idea
The Good of the Land Ay, no problem...even though I'm conflicting about your t-shirt. I'm a die-hard Honda motorcycle fan (although I wished we, the US, built comparable motorcycles), but you're donning a Triumph shirt! But at least your have a Honda quad!
+Bwanar1 The rope is good for 2k The ratchet is limited to the amount of leverage that can be applied to the short handle. I would guess its 1k without the pulley though I would never have the guts to try to yank a motor with it. It's hard to wrap my head around that super thin line being that strong.

I could weld a bar to the handle but I'm not going to be the one to test it!😁 From the specifications of all parts used it should be safe at around 1800lbs, or three American v8,s and a turbo 400. As you originally stated, you could never get that much torque. Sure woorks great to pull a tree in the right direction for felling. Fits quite well in my chainsaw kit, not to mention, works great for removing those hard to remove Honda grill guards!
Don't know if I'd weld a bar on there, I like the small package. Might weld some loops on it that you could stick a bar, or large screw driver in to apply more leverage.
Paradigm shift, Ratchet Straps can be disassembled. I swear I’ve never considered taking one apart. What a brave new world you’ve made me aware of.
Ratchet straps like you used are good and strong. I recently helped a guy get his Honda Civic out of a creek with two. One around a tree to hook the other ratchet strap to. The straps are pretty strong. You can also use the strap as leverage to pull the ratchet handle.

Throw in a snatch block, double the pulling force and not a big item to keep on deck.
Yup, I noticed he did have a small b,oak hanging from the end of his, he just didn’t mention it. He could have ripped the four wheel in half even more had he used it!

Put a small pulley on the load thus doubling the pull, also an extension handle for the ratchet.
Also Know your tow points and don't over load the line or ratchet or you may end up less of a man than you started

+Garrett W I had that same idea! I wamt to test it to failure but i hate to ne standing next to it when it goes.
The Good of the Land totally understand.

Nice hack dude. May have to give this a try.
+Hidden Meadow Farm -The Urban Homestead It works great! Iwould go up to the 3k strength. Plenty of room on the spool.
Must be nice to have a big old garage with all the tools and money
Cool Triumph shirt. I did similarly with a load binder ratchet. I used the strap since it was just for loading trailers but it works a treat.
great idea! i am already thinking about getting one of those lever operated ratchet winches they use on semi trailers and weldng it to a reciever hitch to make a heavy duty version!
"liked" for the bubba gump/Karl Childers impression.

Good thinking on the ratchet strap I built the same one similar with cable couple years back works great thanks for showing us though keep it up
love the 4 wheeler... as is!! ...... great video, thanks!
Nice idea! What was the diameter of the line and how many meters can you roll on your ratchet of it? Thanks, Frank
Good job proud of yall.

fantastic video!! Loved it.

I had to subscribe based on your skilled use of a planishing hammer and total misuse (maybe) of whatever that yellow thing was.

Well it looks like it worked.
How much dyenema rope can you get on( feet or metres). Thanks great video.
The winch line is a dead link... do you have another?
It just gets better every time :D cant wait for the next vid.
+xaap Excellent! Like our facebook page and you can get a sneek peek at our upcoming vids!
Good idea and putting a small snatch block in there with would be awesome to.
What's the cost of the winch rope versus paracord? And does it have individual core strands or is it a weave?
+Dhen Bhoy Its more expensive. I tried it with paracord but it has alot of stretch.
Good idea nice size to keep on a 4 wheeler
+Nathan Duncan Thanks!
I like this guy lol
Ah, that's a good old airforce ratchet strap! 🙂
Hi just found your channel i like the idea to help my get my skidoo un-stook this was in 2017 any updates to this idea i was think i have a load of Paro Cord good to 500lb would that work any ideas would be great
Kool winch idea, would have worked faster if the quad was in neutral so the wheels could roll 6:18...🤣
You have a great attitude
+akbychoice Thank you!
always good!
+DSG DSG Thank you!
You're a good guy lol subbed
+Vince Rees Glad to have you with us!
Love your T-shirt,,,, triumph forever
Could you use an extension handle to increase leverage?
+Paul Monk Absolutely!
Man I love that idea I've never thought about that before I've also opened up my own shop just recently here in Texas
+Jacob Alston Cool. Where is your shop?
It's a great mini come along awesome just awesome
+David Steinfeld Thanks David!
Where do you get the rope at
Awesome thanks for sharing 👍👍😊

Well, if ya ever need one to borrow. you can use mine. But it's all the way up here in the Adirondack Mountains in NY. LoL
What pulling force can you get out of it?
Can you post a link to where you got that spool of rope.

I laughed pretty good with that bubba gump bit.

bubba gump quad - hahaha! Like Garrett W said, I was thinking an extension for more leverage. Look forward to new front end for quad.
+Greyman The quad vid is a must now!

if you don't have a patent on that front wheel articulation yet can you share?
I thought you were going to place those blue plastic washers BETWEEN the contacting metal surfaces so it slides smoother with very little resistance?

+David Steinfeld I have some that I made with paracord and they wirk but the paracord has alot if streach.
That's not parachord. Looks like Dyneema. WAYYYYY different.
Great idea!
But, i'd probably extend the handle a bit, for leverage.
I think it could easily be done!

Sweet little winch.
How about doing a intro to air grinder and screw loc video?
+Walt Lars Sounds like a good idea!
Nice ratchet rebuild. That was a lot of ratcheting to the the 4 wheeler out. Now 4 wheeler repair!
So you made a mini comealong basically.
Keep a pulley (snatch block) or two on hand and it will go a lot easier.
How about raising a sailboat mast?
You're a stronger man than I, I wouldn't of been able to bend that pin
links not working
So how much does it actually lift? Doesn't seem like you would get much torque.
