    Got to honor the man who created this, Michael Crichton, the same man who created Jurassic Park and ER.

    • @burtan2000
      @burtan2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      A Medical Doctor, Crichton wrote many popular novels (and a few meh non-fiction books). Disclosure, Congo, Sphere, Jurassic Park and The Lost World, The Great Train Robbery, The 13th Warrior (eaters of the dead), Timeline, Andromeda Strain, Terminal Man are all movies based on his books. I've read all his novels, most of them more than once. Growing up he was my favorite author other than maybe Tolkien.
      Truly innovative but he flatly disagreed with other scientists on the issue of Climate Change. Sadly, he died at a relatively young age about 10 yrs ago. Several books somehow came out after he passed. I could tell he wrote them though. His style is unmistakable. I could also tell they weren't quite a tight and polished as his early work as he was sick whilst writing.
      I hope his estate gets royalties for Westworld on HBO.

    One thing I love about Michael Crichton is the message he tries to send via his stories that you don't expect. Like with West World, he was telling us that the computer technology we were developing was, for all intents and purposes, an artificial form of simple organisms. And like all organisms, there were threats to how they functioned, specifically viruses. Only with machines, the virus was not a physical manifestation, but a virtual one in the form of computer code.

      It’s honestly a pretty slow, boring movie. That’s not to say there wasn’t great sci fi in that era- 2001 A Space Odyssey came out in 1968 after all (slow, but definitely not boring). But the original Westworld felt like half a movie - intro to Westworld, malfunctions discovered, robot chasing humans, robot finally disabled - without the deeper meaning or hints at bigger implications, or drastic character character development, or even just plausible futurism (robotic people as a whole are arguably less plausible than elements of Nolan’s version, like synthetic muscle, bone, skin tissue being 3D printed).
      I understand it was a different time, with different current tech and visions of the future, but comparing it to say, a James Bond movie from the same era, it’s a pretty “ehhhh” movie.

    - Wonderful, wonderful Film! This is clearly a pearl from U.S. - It is thought-provoking Film as well in certain ways, reflecting e.g. now more advanced robot-technology. There well might occur unpleasant side-effects also related to "responsibility" given to more advanced AI-applications, for example. - But this Film raises other kind of questions as well (subjectively); of psychological and moral type. Who bears responsibility? Of what? How? In what contexts? What means leisure? Am I aiming somewhere? Why? What means to be a human? - This Film belongs to the "Classic of the Cassics" - series regarding American Film Industry. - After seeing this Film, I really cannot imagine anyone else in the role of the "Gunslinger" than Mr. Yul Brynner. I just cannot forget this Film, just cannot. - This rare Film is MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to watch! -

    Compared to the original movie trailer it’s a laugh riot. This basically gives the entire premise award from the start ‘modern indeed’

    Correct me if I am wrong. I think this movie was way ahead of it's time..
    At a time when human beings were just beginning to understand what a computer device was . These movie makers created the plausible future..

      Interesting observation. Perhaps you are right. Season 3 was certainly more Futureworld than it was Westworld.

    I never understood those saying season 3 was bad because it wasn't a western setting.
    This show isn't about being a western...It's about the fight for freedom. For humanity and hosts freedom , together and not against them.
    But don't worry, given the ending of season 3 we are back in western (post apocalyptic this time) for season 4...
