  • Welcome to Skomer Island, home to a captivating sight - the delightful residents known as puffins. These small seabirds, with their vibrant beaks and whimsical charm, have made this island their haven.
Skomer Island, a protected habitat off the coast of Wales, attracts thousands of visitors each year who come to witness these remarkable birds in action. From April to July, as the breeding season begins, the island becomes a bustling haven for puffins.
As you explore Skomer Island, you'll encounter these fascinating creatures nesting in burrows along the cliffs and slopes. Puffins are true master builders, creating intricate tunnels to house their young. These burrows offer protection from the elements and predators, ensuring the safety of their precious chicks.
But it's not just their impressive architectural skills that make puffins stand out. They are also skilled divers, plunging into the sea to catch fish and other small marine creatures. With their specially adapted wings, they can swim gracefully underwater, their orange feet propelling them through the depths.
Skomer Island provides these puffins with a rich feeding ground, teeming with fish and squid. These nutritious meals sustain the puffin population, allowing them to thrive and inspire awe in those fortunate enough to witness their beauty.
As you watch them soar through the sky, or waddle comically along the cliffs, it's impossible not to be captivated by these feathered residents. Their charming antics and distinctive appearance make Skomer Island truly feel like a puffin paradise.
So, if you ever find yourself in Wales, make sure to visit Skomer Island and experience the joy of witnessing these delightful puffins in their natural habitat. Thank you for watching this video, and we hope you enjoyed this glimpse into the world of Skomer Island's enchanting residents. Thanks for posting this. I'm going next Sunday. I'm on my own so a bit nervous of getting lost or not making it back for the boat lol is it easy to find your way around? Where did you get the map and info from please? I did the cruise yesterday but didn't have a good look in the little building in the car park although there didn't seem to be that much in there. Is there another building I missed? I so enjoyed your video

Thank you so much for your comment, glad you liked the video. Don't be nervous, the map is on a little guide book they give you in the ticket office when you pick up your ticket and it's easy to find your way round with that, there's only really one loop route and a couple of paths to the middle where the picnic area and toilets are. There's little signposts to mark the way too. Also, there's always someone else on the path doing the same route! Take more layers than you think you need and plenty of snacks and water. You'll have a great time! All the best, Ben and Sarah 😀
