She was the only person Freddie wanted to sing at his funeral and she did. This song was written for the Barcelona Olympics, but it was 2 years from the time she asked Freddie to write it and perform with her and he told her he wouldn't be here in 2 years. This song opened the Barcelona Olympics. They truly had a special love for one another.

That was one of the great, endearing things about Freddie. When it came to his creative output, he never cared what the critics thought. If he wanted to do something, he'd just go for it, boundaries be damned. Of course, he had the talent, skill, work ethic and can-do attitude to back it up, which made people want to go along with his unconventional ideas (just think how much faith the other three members of Queen had to have in him to spend three weeks on "Bohemian Rhapsody"). Montserrat definitely saw this in him too, and she later said in an interview that other singers from the pop and rock world have approached her to do collaborations, but she felt that her time with Freddie was so special that she didn't want to revisit it.

Actually Freddie loved opera and went to see Pavarotti. Caballe had a small part. She was a soprano famous for being able to sing high and gently at the same time. Freddie was blown away by her. He asked to meet. They spent their first night at his house collaborating until 6am. There’s so much more to the story. So beautiful their collaboration and so ahead of it’s time. Monsy as he called her adored Freddie. She said his passion and talent blew her away too.

I know we all love and miss Freddie, but I do thank you for your show of appreciation and respect for Montserrat Caballé. Yes, she was a true operatic diva known as "La Superba". This title was given her mostly for her extreme breath and volume control, such as holding a pianisimo (very soft) G6 for 22 seconds. There is a street in Barcelona named for her, done while she was still alive. She and Freddie had such a wonderful and special deep friendship which she refers to as one of the happiest years of her life. The whole album they did together is fabulous. Again, thank you for the respect and admiration you show both of these legendary artists.

Freddie and Montserrat met in Barcelona for the first time. Montserrat was a bit late and Freddie who really wanted this collaboration was so nervous, that he said: I can't do this, let's go home! 15 minutes after her arrival, Freddie and Montserrat have explored the same kind of humor in eachother and a beautiful friendship began at the Hotel Ritz in Barcelona. Montserrat was exited about working together, because Freddie's music ensured her and her voice new possibilities comparing to the opera. Thanks for the remembering of the Lover of Life and Singer of Songs (by Brian May).

Happy Birthday Freddie! We love you forever! This was a great choice for a birthday reaction. The story I have heard is that as soon as Freddie heard Montsy for the first time singing his song, he was so proud and said, "now I have the best voice in the world singing my song." He wrote or co-wrote all the songs for the Barcelona album, which, given that Opera is very different genre, shows what an amazing musician he was. Thank you for the reaction.

Happy Birthday, Freddie. I am also thinking of Mary, today.....the Love of Your Life........sure she is very sad and reminiscent like the rest of those who adore you. You were a 'one of' and blessed to live and entertain in an era of real vocal talent, no technology and live instruments........... such a perfect fit. Technology is working in your favour in one aspect, a whole new generation are being introduced to you, Brian, Roger and John..........and are able to see 'real' musical talent during its finest hour.
Pres. Pat: I am going to suggest a couple of must listens for you: Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli singing THE PRAYER. Celine doing "ALL BY MYSELF" I'd also suggest Brian, Roger and John tribute to Freddie entited No One But You and then Brian and an opera star do it in a duet...........Also check out Gladys Knight and the Pips doing 'The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me and Neither One of Us.

Freddie IS the jewel in the sun. Thank you Freddie for touching my soul. This epic music will never be done again. We are fortunate to have this on video.
    Love you forever Freddie!

You have to hear the demo he sent her "Exercises in Free Love" it's almost in the same octaves as her, so much so, when people first heard it, they thought it was her on his album, when in fact it was all him and it's what he sent to her as a demo when he wanted to collaborate with her to create the Barcelona Album. You really should give it a listen, it will be one of the most beautiful things you've heard. He is like an angel singing from Heaven. No words, just vocal ranges and his piano playing. You will be able to hear the "rock" Freddie come out every now and then when he comes down the scale. Disregard, you did already listen to it, but your other viewers may not have heard of it, so they should check it out...lol

Freddie and Montessrat speak for themselves. Two of the greatest performers of all time. Sadly, no one's name but Freddie's name (because of the fantastic performance) is mentioned. But this could not have happened with the conductor who by the way name is Mike Moran. He co-wrote this fantastic pop opera with Freddie. Mike is much more than the guy with the illuminated wand. He is a musical genius as well.

Freddie and Monserrat were made for each other and they adored each other so much. I think he told Monserrat about his HIV infection before he told the band. If you want to listen to another song from their album I highly recommend "Golden Boy", a lovely song with major gospel vibes.

They loved each other deeply & were such great friends. It shows how versatile he was, he literally could do it all. I hope he knows how very loved & missed he is xx❤❤

I think a next song you should check out would be Queen's Live Its a Hard Life. Its a great song and I think you will enjoy it as you get to see Freddie play more of the piano along with singing with the band.

Amazing and outstanding performance. If you have not yet listened to Freddie doing "Exercises In Free Love" you should. It was a song that Freddie was writing for this album. Freddie is singing Montserrat's part on a tape to send to her to get her approval as to if she would be comfortable with singing it as one of the songs on the album. Freddie is hitting all those high notes on that tape. It is amazing.

The orchestration and choir participating in this masterpiece has me joyous that Freddie surely did HIS thing on this. No QUEEN impact to me. Loved the result of these Divas intentionally giving a performance evidencing their different genres. Fabulous! Really glad you reacted. Thanks much.
