Endless Engines - Anime Cyberpunk Airship Sort of Thing

My entry to the #endlessengines challenge.
These challenges are absolutely wild. I always start out thinking “oh this is what I do already, 5 seconds, should be simple” - and by the end my eyes are bleeding, I’ve changed my mind about 47 billion times, and I’ve completely lost all sense of what’s good or bad. On the other hand, I’ve also learned so much in a short amount of time, and I’ve had so many new ideas for future projects. I’d like to be able to post a nice, clean breakdown that follows a linear progression - but that’s just not how this one went. It’s more of a lateral shotgun blast of options and colors and horrible glitches, and I guess it gives a pretty good sense of what’s going on in my nightmare of a brain!

I’m afraid it’s just a good old-fashioned hand-drawn 2D animation on alpha (not drawn by me), then those are on image planes parented to the ship.

I did not make those - those were free stock footage, from ActionVFX I believe. I would love to make my own collection of little 2D elements, but i guess that involves actually learning 2D animation

I've never gotten around to learning how sprites work. But I would love to see a lesson or a short video of this cartoon sprite smoke. It looks mind-blowingly cool. Is there anywhere I can download this Sprite Pack for experimentation?

@@alexanderpavlov2154 I’m pretty sure these are the ones: www.actionvfx.com/collections/free-cartoon-fire-and-smoke-stock-footage - so I’m just importing those “images as planes,” adding color emission and putting them at weird angles mirroring them. I’m working now on making my own alpha elements in blender, and if I can get it right I’ll definitely have it available.
