    I have this alarm, and another alarm on my bike held in place with hex screws just in case they disable alarm 1, I also have 4 different lock types that I use every time I go out, my bike is a thief's worst nightmare.

      I live in sketchy neighborhood... I got everything, 1 bike alarm 3 cable locks on long thick cable tied with lock and one cable lock too and lock on chain,lock on disc brake with a cover on it tied with rope so you can't cut the cable or U lock being careful or disabling alarm and still getting new alarm and gps trackers maybe 1 more u lock and its all in my backyard with motion sensor lights 😂

    Have one on my cargo bike. It's excellent. Occasionally hear people attempt to open the cargo box. The first loud beep is enough to scare them away.

    I love mine. Its hidden but not covered so its loud. Also held on with metal ties you cant just snip or pull off. Its like a car alarm it wont stop a theif but it'll make sure theyre heard and noticed.

    A much more comprehensive review. Appreciate the two distance tests. Questions: 1)_What if the remote gets lost or broken while on the road, is there a way to disarm the alarm? 2)_Can you arm/activate the alarm without it sounding. 3)_Can you buy a backup remote? Thanks for sharing. Great review. Planning on buying a reverse trike hopefully soon. New on your channel. New subscriber. God bless.

    • @BenDurham
      @BenDurham  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My guess for most of these is "no, no, no, and no." only because it's so cheap that the company would either not respond to your requests or just send you another one. That would be my recommendation, too, unfortunately! You get what you pay for.

    • @lazurm
      @lazurm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Remiong Cecilio: Ben Durham erred in his "guess" answer. These are the correct, researched answers to your questions:
      1) The only way to disarm the alarm, without destroying it, if the remote gets lost or broken is to either have programed another remote or disconnect the internal batteries inside the unit by unscrewing the battery compartment.
      2) The arm/activate function requires a sound and can not eliminate this sound.
      3) The only way, currently, to buy a backup remote is to buy another unit, only $17 at the time of this reply, cheap enough, and program the remote that comes with each alarm to function for the alarm you wish it to function for.

    These are alarms. They are not a substitute for a lock. If you are in earshot they are great. I've twice been wokekken by a siliars thing. The noise scares people off, usually. I once found someone had removed my front hydraulic brake, along with handlebar and stem, while chained outside my home. Now any tampering will wake me. My neighbours probably aren't so grateful, but twice in a year's not bad.

    • @BenDurham
      @BenDurham  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I use mine in a scooter that has a headlight housing on the handlebars. I mounted the unit inside the headlight housing under the speedometer. It's hard to get to. They would have to take apart the front body panel to remove the headlight housing unless they just smashed it to pieces which I don't think they will do if the bike is parked in a public place with cameras on it. It's armed After I lock the handlebar lock and attach a disk rotor lock with it's own alarm. Two alarms and two locks. I plan to add a heavy chain and lock with alarm they can't cut with bolt cutters and a GPS. 3 locks, 3 alarms and a GPS.

    • @BenDurham
      @BenDurham  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wowsers, where are you leaving this scooter and for how long at a time? 😮 Looks like no one's stealing it... EVER! How much was your scooter and how much is the combination of 3 locks, 3 alarms, and a GPS tracker going to cost you overall? That seems like a lot of hassle each time you want to go use your scooter :(

    • @DivergentDroid
      @DivergentDroid 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@BenDurham Note, I only have the two locks and two alarms now.. After I add a chain lock with alarm I'll have three then the GPS once I add that. All are so easily defeated I feel like I need even more.. perhaps a Pit Bull or Really Ugly ex girlfriend.. unfortunately I've never had a really ugly ex girlfriend but they would be much cheaper than the pit bull.. however, I digress.. The city is New Orleans. Pot is legal here but Not sold in stores so guys would steal a 1000 dollar bike for a 30 dollar bag of weed. I figure even with the pit bull and really ugly ex girlfriend I'd have about 3 minutes in a store.. the pit bull is happy with a steak and the really ugly ex girlfriend is good with any guy with a 3 and a half inch dong.. both easily defeated..

    I'd say the main purpose of the alarm is to protect your locks 😜
    If you spend hundreds of dollars on chains, D-locks, trackers etc. it would be costly to replace them every time someone tries to steal your stuff. So letting the thief know 'the bike owner is coming, you better run before he comes or calls the cops' you have a better chance the thief will not damage your other, more expensive defenses.

    I bought one for my motorcycle. It’s OK, but not loud enough. For a bicycle ir is loud because it’s position out in the open, but on a bike if you hide it somewhere it tends to muffle the sound.
    Also, when adjusting sensitivity, it’s really hard to tell which level you are at. One would think that the beep would get louder (or the other way around) as sensitivity increased, but mine can be lousy, then it goes down, and up again, and I am only in 4-5 beeps. There are suppose to be 7. I changed the sensitivity and I have never been able to get it back to the most sensitive setting. Pretty lousy!
    But hey, for 16 bucks what can you expect, uh? Would I recommend it, yes I would. Something is better than nothing.

    I own this device and there is one thing that really annoys me: The sounds for "armed" and "disarmed" are freakin loud too. Absolutely no need. When I get home in my relatively quiet neighbourhood in the evening, I often will not use it because of that. And this is the way you use it all the time. I don't understand why I can change the alarm sound which is rarely used but cannot change the behavior of the 95 -%-of-times-sound.

You can layer your deterrents as much as you can afford, it's still not gonna help if someone really wants to take the bike. Although Good to have, some is better than none and More is better than some, we really need better solutions. The thief needs to know the alarm is in a place he could never get to, with a GPS that actually calls the cops in real time with tracking data for the cops. Even that may not be fool proof but No One makes such a unit and The Cops are part of the problem because they don't want to pay for a department to do just that. For example, they stole one of my machines. I know that it is within one of 2 houses that are close to each other, could I press a botton for the alarm to go off? The reason I don't want the sensitivity option is that I don't want the culprit to know the device is in the machine because the machines are miles away from me. I realise that the tracking devices on the machines doesn't give the exact location. The tracker will let you know it is in this circle right here but that circle might have 2 houses. Then j could press the remote and know exactly where it is because of the sound
