Homie Almost DIES! I Lose My Gun and Tear My Wetsuit in Half! - Spearfishing Hawaii

- I had to take a leak in a new area that I was exploring, so I walked towards the cliffs and stumbled across this really cool cave. I explored it for a bit, and was amazed that it lead right to the ocean! It was such an amazing entry that I had to come back and go spearfish it.
What started off being an awesome morning, quickly turned into a total nightmare by nightfall. The water was really clear and nice in the beginning, but as we got farther out, it just got a lot murkier. We didn’t notice how bad the swell had picked up, and by the time we were heading in, the cave was closing from the surge! It was pretty terrifying!
We waited for the swell to die down, and then I shot into the cave with about 30lbs of gear attached to the bodyboard. I had a small window to swim through the cave, get myself up onto the rock, and take my fins off. My friend made a critical error by climbing onto the rock instead of letting the surge push him up. So when the next wave came in, it bashed him into the rock head first and he did a front flip in the water. Then the vortex pulled him down and held him under the water for a long time! While under the water he was getting his head bashed and his mask ripped off. He thought he was going to die, because he could not swim up to get air. Thankfully the next wave pushed him all the way to the top and he was saved. During all of this, my gun got ripped off the float and I was too scared to jump in and search for it. Amy on the other hand, was thinking about jumping in and looking for it, until a big surge came in and knocked her on her butt.
The next day we had rented a boat, and I ripped the leg off my suit on the boat cleat. I was not having the best weekend lol. Thankfully I got that nice Kali, and Wahanui on my trusty CT9 (www.evolvediving.com/). I also grabbed a fat lobster (filmed in April) which was delicious.
I went back to the cave everyday (1 hour drive each way) and the surge was just to gnarly to jump in. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and just sent it. Thankfully I found my baby and life was pretty sweet again :) - กีฬา

I’ve watched probably hundreds of dive videos. This is by far my favorite one ever. As a diver of more than 30 years it encompasses my experiences personally as the challenges I’ve experienced. Bro your way better than I ever was. I topped out at 90’ for no more than 3 minutes. I’m forever impressed by the bottom time.
But that’s away from the point. I love the Stoney shots. I love the wait time to guarantee the fish is landed. I love the way you showed the fashion of luck of life as is very real. Sometimes we lose but sometimes we score. But the funniest shit to me is the choice of music. Lol. You faka. I don’t even like those songs but in context I’m with you soldier.

Hoooo this was nuts.... I’ve never experienced getting slammed into the rocks but I’ve been toppled by some 8-10ft waves and had my buoy & gun ripped out of my possession and it’s the most helpless feeling. I felt ya pain brotha 🙏 glad you made it out

So sweet you found your gun and your friend was OK, head hit the rocks there could have been so bad, so tense watching! Best vid yet, loved it. So deep on some of those dives!!
Last week I went on a dive in a new spot with two friends and couldn't find the channel entrance to get back from the outside reef and waves picked up with the wind-swell to head high. Was feeling tired and a wave tore my gun and float out of my hands while I was trying to not get slammed into the dry reef shelf. Lost my dive buddies, and they knew the area and channel entrance (learned have to study the shoreline way better first just in case). Was just happy to get in cruising over reef on waves where reef was only a foot deep but got to a channel and then to the beach. Amazingly my float pulled my gun safely onto the dry reef and after a slow walk/swim way out was able to grab it. My brand new Sniper Roller! Was so stoked and feel your joy. :)

Bro that thing is a legit death hole. So glad he didn’t hit the noggen on rocks that may have been lights out. I wonder if u have exits that bad in the future you could set up some type of rope system to clamp your gear to b4 u exit and then you can just skiddadle. The gear is what really gets us!

Tako (octopus) ink spray lol! When I hit the bottom, I looked to my left and saw this big cloud. I tried looking for the tako but couldn’t find him so I just hid in his ink cloud as cover 😂
