    Had mine since 2015 with the 500x board. No matter how times I think of dumping it, I always come back to it, it's like a second wife as after all this time I'm still learning about how it works with the hd500. I've recently brought a second one as I'm gonna explore dual amps. Great video btw sir, and glad my to see I'm not the only one digging these amps.

      Hey Alfie. Thx for the comment. I play my two every week at rehearsal with a pedalboard in front and they continually surprise me even with all the pedals bypassed. The twin on one side and AC30 on the other just sounds amazing.

      I found this amp a few years back used for 500 bucks and just had to throw some matched, medium, eletroharmonix tubes in it. The popping, etc. was bad after about 10 minutes of playing, so I just stop playing it and (was a bit lazy and just payed for matching vs doing it myself, lol) and fine tuned the bias.. things just keeps on kicking ass, absolutely LOVE this amp!!

    Great little amplifiers, I have the head/cab version and it stands up very well against my expensive boutique hand wired stuff, etc. Plus, solid build quality, and as you have demonstrated very versatile for band scenarios. Nice overview.

    One minor note: I believe these came out around 2011.
    Great video. Very informative and just enough playing, talking and tweaking. Keep it up. Subbed.
    I’m on the fence with trading mine in for a Headrush gig board and frfr108. I love the DT25 and wish Line 6 would have capitalized more on that collaboration.

    Whenever you have to replace the tubes, definitely go with (matched medium) electroharmonix tubes.. save yourself from wrecking the transformer, etc. :)

      Hey. Thx for the comment mate. It’s such an amazing piece of kit. I did the software update a while back and the fender bassman and J45 models are just insane pedal platforms. Also I now have a channel with no preamp where I can plug in a modeler and it’s AMAZING at that sort of non coloured amp thing too.
      Unreal. What an amp.
      I’ll keep those power amp tuned in mind. Thx

      Hi, I do have pops and sound level has lowered a lot and is inconsistant. Just read your comment on buying the right tubes and just changing it. But I spent some time reading stuffs on Line 6 forums and it seems it's a lot more complicated than just swapping the tubes. How did you manage to change it ?

    Yep great amps and are even better if you change the valves. I did with my previous Spider valve combo sourced NOS Tung Sol 6881 power tubes and a pair NOS Mullard ECC83. I done the, same with my DT25 combo sourced pair of Mullard EL84 NOS valves and NOS ECC83 pre valves. Both amps went from really nice to incredible.

    • @eddianproject
      @eddianproject 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheGuitarEffect Yes as I say I source out original new valves. I no longer have the, Spider Valve but I still have my DT25 combo.
      I replaced the existing power tubes with NOS (New Old Stock) Mullard EL84 valves circa 1965 so these are new valves made in 1965 which are unused. Same with the pre amp valves I replaced them with 2 x NOS Mullard ECC83 valves circa 1963.
      These old stock valves are expensive and difficult to find but IMHO they well worth the cost asthey transform the amp.
      Basically when my DT25 is in AC30 mode it now sounds just like my old VoxAc30 same goes with the other modes for Fender and Marshall modes sound is identical. Hope this helps.

    Very good video and playing. Loved the Skunk Anansie clip. Do you ever use the low power option if so does it do bedroom volumes and can you still make use of all the options adjusting the circuitry etc. From my understanding the low power mode negates the power tube.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Thx for the comment. So I use the amp on low volume mode nearly all the time. It’s extremely loud at higher volume settings and very manageable and great sounding at lower settings. It actually substantially changed the sound and gain characteristics bringing the power tubes in. It’s a great sound too though. Much more unruly and raucous

    Sounds killer! I have one as well and mine doesn’t take boost or gain pedals..at all. They sound fizzy and lifeless. And I use Cornerstone Gladio, Wampler Dual Fusion, ...nothing sounds decent. Altough the amp on itself sounds fine. I recently had it serviced, new amps and biasing, but no improvement. Any idea? Cheers! Pat

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey pat. Thx for the comment! The immediate thing I’d suggest is turn it up on the low power mode unless you are gigging at high level. This amp really likes the master and channel volumes being up. Also even on the cleaner models never have the channel volumes before 12 o clock.
      Have you tried that?

    • @PatDeJongeSoundwise
      @PatDeJongeSoundwise 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      aha, I will give that a try. I used the amp yesterday for an outdoor gig, and on the full power setting it really sounded (like I said) fizzy and dull with pedals. It sounded fine when I didn't engage the pedals. But I will try tonight on the low power mode, cheers!

      @@TheGuitarEffect Hey, I wanted to try the Low Power setting...but I then noticed my tech (who just swapped the tubes) had already set the amp on Low Power. So I switched it back to Full Power and...the sound is back. Amazing what a difference it makes. So mine sounds awful, with drive pedals in front, in the Low Power mode, but sounds good in the Full Power mode. I'm surprised your does the opposite...maybe depends on tubes and pedals?

    • @fairweatherfriends.
      @fairweatherfriends. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s just a result of using pedals. Dirt pedals suck and can never compare to amp Distortion. They are either, shrill, thin, honky, fizzy, or muddy. Gain pedals just SUCK. TS9 is only one you might ever want to use and only for playing lead.

  • @jacejmusic
    @jacejmusic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The models except for the Mesa sound are really bad. This is the worst fender emulation I have heard. This amp, however, is built extremely well and has great features. Any cheap preamp pedal into the fx return sounds much better. The hd500x going into the digital input sounds amazing. Updating the firmware might be the ticket, but I was unsuccessful in doing so.....as well as the guy I hired to do so. I have had bad luck many times with the reliability of Line 6 products, particularly the power connections. Once I gave up trying to update this amp, it has proven to be pretty awesome.

    • @TheGuitarEffect
      @TheGuitarEffect  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey. Thx for the comment. I have to say I actually disagree on both counts. I really like the amp models. All four of them. One thing to consider is. If I’m not running it loud it really does massively benefit tonally fro running it on low power mode. I don’t know if you’ve tried that.
      And then second to that the first thing I did when I got this was went out and bought a HD500 so I could use it with the one cat 5 cable. While I found it did indeed sound great (though no better than the onboard models) it became very fiddly to get the levels between patches sorted when playing at volume. So I reverted to a pedalboard in the front.
      I’ve had three of these for years now and several times I’ve considered replacing one or all of them. Just for a change. I simply can’t find anything that does what these do.
      They’re FANTASTIC
