    As someone who owns this amp (2x12 Combo):
    - *Channel 1* Is dark & muddy, kinda soft/flubby, even w/ the treble and presence dimed. I definitely wish it had more gain; with the drive dimed on the bridge pickup of my strat it only gets a little broken up. It's slightly louder in Class A, maybe 2dB, sounds more open and the low end is rounder and looser. The reverb is cool, but the decay is a bit long. In Class A/B, it's tighter but a little more constrained sounding. Both are good. I'd compare this setting to a very "meh" deluxe reverb. Useful but won't blow your pants off.
    - *Channel 2* is cool. The breakup character is a little soft for my taste (my dream Marshall is a park 75) but is still cool. With the presence past 3 o clock that amp has loads of gain and bite, it's awesome! The mid control doesn't do too much but sounds best dimed. The bass control works well, I leave it at 11 o clock. Depending on your playing style you might find that it is too flubby above that. The reverb has a massive decay and isn't useful at all with dirt. I liek eric johnson's tone a lot, and with the gain dimed, mids and bass at 11 o clock, treble and presence all the way down it gets there, though it could use some juice from a pedal or something.
    - *Channel 3* is where it's at! The drive control strat to get dirtyish around noon, and kinda tops out around two o'clock. Past that you just get more compression, which is still really cool. The bass control boosts highs and cuts lows between 7 o clock and 3 o clock. With it dimed, it applies this interesting midrange shift and treble reduction that makes it way more fender-ey. I like it a lot! It's never flubby or muddy in the bass so you can use the whole knob no problem. The mid control subtly thins out the sound between max and noon, and below noon it darkens it substantially. I leave it somewhere between dimed and noon. The treble control also presents an interesting mid shift below 3 o clock; I don't like it but some may. I leave the treble dimed. The presence control is a subtle treble cut, like the difference between half and max on your guitar's tone control. I leave it dimed because I like the airy sound. The reverb's decay is reasonable but can get nice and ethereal when you crank it up. Nice but useful. Sounds about 6dB louder in Class A (which is still in class A/B, just cathode biased w/o Negative feedback), the low end is round, and the distortion is softer. In class A/B (fixed bias with nfb) it's tighter and cleaner but quieter. I like both, depends on the day.
    - *Channel 4* is that annoying mesa recto sound, though less fizzy treble. Lots of sustain, but I don't use it particularly much.
    The Class switch always sounds louder in class A, though both positions sound good. The triode/pentode switch is kinda useless - triode is a lot quieter but alot softer and darker sounding. Not my thing at all. Cool amp, but could use some improvement.

      Make a video. These amps new were too expensive for people to buy. 2nd hand NOW they're affordable and I think they're great but for the money. Diamonds in the rough

    Hi Thomas - it's not a problem at all. With the HD500, it's probably a better idea to connect the HD500 to the DT25 over the L6 Link connection. That way, you can mix and match preamps and poweramp characteristics.
    Hope that helps!

    @Tankwylde Hi, DT50 is designed to work with any regular guitar stompbox pedals as you would any other amp.

    I own 2 DT 50s 1 head and 1 -212 combo. I just don’t know why line 6 cancelled this amp. It is a dream rig with the HD500x and soon I hope to be buying a helix. I currently own 12 different Variax guitars and amps. Partly because I’m a custom luthier and love putting Variax electronics into classi vintage clones. But I’ve also kept a copy of each. The DT 50 head into my marshal 4-12 with vintage Celestion green back G12M 16 ohm 25 watt and 55 hz not 75, give me rich lows and a crystal clear full range for a guitar. I pulled my greenbacks from a 1970 Acoustic 405 transducer. Back then there was very few bass amps unlike today, this cabinet along with 2 banshee style horns was considered a guitar/bass cabinet. It only holds 100 watts max but my DT 50 head into this cabinet is by far the best sounding amp ever. I also have a DT 50 212 with the 2 different Celestion speakers. It sounds nice but no way close to the green back Marshall bottom. I’m not sure who thought of unmatched speakers, I’m not an engineer but I do know enough about speakers that even though they both may be 8 ohm and one is 90 watts and one is thirty watts one will draw much more power than the other while the other speaker will cause the amp to put out less power and get in the way of the other speaker drawing what it needs. I’ve done several experiments with bass cabinets which need much more power to move more air than a higher frequency instrument like a 6 string guitar. When I can find another pair of matched 8 ohm ( because I’m only using 2 speakers for the combo 2 8 ohms in parallel will give me 4 ohms. Perfect. I will have a bit more headroom but unless I get a second 212 extension cabinet I won’t max out the power. 4 16 ohm speakers will give me 4 ohms again. It would be best for me to purchase all 4 at once. The trouble I’m finding is there’s tones of th G12M 9 medium magnet) 75 hz voice coil but I’m having a tough time coming up with 4 of the 55hz voice coil. By the way these were Jim I Hendrix favorite speaker with its brown sound if you read this and get a chance to play your favorite amp through a 412 best or 212 ok cabinet, try it, you’ll never want another speaker. The gain turned down you have a sparkling full range cabinet which loves some reverb. With the 50 watt dt50 cranking the gain gives me a warm rich sustain and the experience the feeling you get from your strings the feedback. I swear by these. Mine were broken in when I got them so I guess I’d prefer vintage 1970 ish, ultra high quality construction. These were the roll Celestion. Anyway, so sad that line 6 ended the DT series, I’ve owned many line 6 amps many line 6 pods. I still have my x3 pro. Having trouble selling it because of the incredible bass pres it has, fantastic vocal ores including low Rez, and wonderful acoustic pres. Not sure yet about the HD500x because I’ve on,y had it a month.
    I’ve heard at one time some Half backed manufacturer in China was putting crappy transformers in these. Although expensive to replace my worry is the massive amounts of pcbs in the amp. I’ve known for years when line 6 drops a product once their inventory of parts runs out that’s it. There’s no fixing thes. It’s not like a hand wired fender dual showman where you’ve got all wire and resistors diode capacitors etc. I’m sure they are tube amps but they are still a hybrid of software and chips that your local amp repair man won’t likely be able to fix. All the components are micro smds . They can be removed and replaced by hand but it ain’t easy. Especially with my 66 year old eyes I need a microscope to even find the part. But both my amps are over 10 years old both seem to have the original tubes.. anyway. I’ll baby mine till I die. I don’t even gig anymore but I love the awesome stereo rig I get completely controlled by HD500x. I know the helix will be even better. The reverbs and delays in stereo are mesmerizing. I’m still learning about some things like should my first amp be globally banned left and number 2 right but then I think no, because each amp is a stereo amp so for now I have them both ab ab. I’ll figure it out. There are a lot of manuals regarding the L6 Link setups with a single DT amp. Be nice if there were one fir stereo. There are illustrations with 4 DT amps I series using L6 link with some red green arrows but nothing in depth. That’s dussapointing.
    It incredible what a person with my rig or better my rig with helix and a Variax the options are limitless at least with my old brain. I wish line 6 would bring them back. I’ve never played a bogner amp prior to my DT r0s but I’m looking to try one. The tones are out of this world, I got mine for a steal. The head was an auction, the bidding got to 226 dollars. I put a bid in up to 550 a good price I think. Anyway got that for 227 dollars amazing. That was a thousand dollar head. The 212 combo I found on guitar center /reverb and I paid 400 for that. Only complaint is guitar center did a horrible job stuffing a thin walled box sticking this vert heavy amp, with these balls of trapped air. The box got to me destroyed. The amp landed on the left top corner and there’s a small crack there. I’m worried about future internal damage but no ine answers my texts and emails. I’d like about half my purchase price back or just refund my my shipping and cost and I’ll find another one. Jarring pub boards can delaminates them where they work for a while but then the connections listen and the amp stops working plus the case wobbles on a flat surface. So I hope since grey went big corporation they still have that old fashioned taje care of the customer.
    I do have to say the box was shattered in pieces and I know this amp rolled a why he not syrevhow fast but it’s a tank. Any other particle board cheap player fender amp would have blown to bits. But the DT is so well build

    Hey Captain!
    They are simply coil tap switches for each of the Anderson pickups. The pickups get a bit bigger and brighter when they're switched to single coil operation, but you get the noise as well, of course. Unfortunately, they don't help lessen the weight of the guitar - you absolutely NEED to use a wide strap with it, or you won't be able to move your left shoulder the next day :-)

  • @seanhalleyguitar
    @seanhalleyguitar 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @TheEternalLeader
    You are correct, you cannot "tap" a single coil pickup, because it, well, only has one coil :-)
    These pickups (and many others like them, made by a bunch of different companies) are single-coil sized, but are actually two coils stacked on top of each other. They're voiced to sound more like single coils, but in operation they are precisely like normal side-by-side humbuckers - just stacked.
    Hope that helps...

    • @formynsane
      @formynsane 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok but what about having more patches? if you need a clean, hi gain and a solo patch into one song, how you would configure only two channels? the pod can store lot of patches and also add more effects, doesn't it?

    • @slarbslarb
      @slarbslarb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could add a basic MIDI pedal switch board and have a total of 8 presets or buy a Pod HS series pedal and have more patches and deeper editing. Used Pod HD300/400/500's are cheap. I love my DT50 and I'm super skeptical of modeling BS.

    I'm using a DT50 112 with an HD500x. i was wondering if it would be bad to have my master volume maxed out for long periods of time while gigging? Also does it negate the master volume on the amp if my master volume on the hd500x is low? Might be silly questions but i have a gig next month and wanted to sort out my tone beforehand.

    @seanhalleyguitar How do you coil-tap a single coil? I thought that was only for humbuckers.......

  • @seanhalleyguitar
    @seanhalleyguitar 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Mancha - the electronics are precisely the same in the US and non-US model JTV's - so there's no difference there. Tone-wise they should be very similar. The US guitars are cut via CNC, and the necks are quarter-sawn maple, so there may be a small difference in the feel (which you'd hope, right? :-) US guitars also get more finish options, and Hipshot tuners. For the tones in the vid, just check the amp knob positions when they're visible - hope that helps!

    i still miss the idea of the vetta, that amp was simply complete ..., a gigantic and perfect footcontroller, all effects you can wish for and people loved it because it was simply a no brainer, meshuggah used it, bumblefoot, nine inch nails ... i'd simply love seeing a new version, a vetta III with helix sound quality stereo with multiamping simply a great new vetta ... seriously, i used the vetta for years and i now had the axe fx and the kemper an so on but i always loved the AMPformfactor and now i'm still thinking about buying the vetta again because there is still nothing that is such a complete package on the market, not the best sounding maybe but very often you simply need one amp that does everything ... and i mean the footcontroller, jsut one cable and it included two expression pedals, that is so great, cables always break and on smaler stages you're always happy when you don't need power or another cable ...

      It's a pretty inexpensive way to get a plexi sound like DeMartini and Van Halen
      ..if you're into that sort of thing
