I LOVE Nathaniel Ng. For a child actor, he has SUCH A SERENE, WISE, PRECOCIOUS demeanor, unlike most of his ANNOYING, HYPERACTIVE peers. Thank you JD Chua for bring such a unique, glorious talent, to the screen.
Only those people who grew up taking care of themselves could truly understand the emotional trauma of being alone and fending for themselves. Yes they may think we turned out well in the end. But the process is hard. It's painful and difficult to be forced to grow up early.
This reminds me of myself when my mom and I first moved to Singapore. My father was working in M'sia and I stayed with my mom in a rented apartment. Times were tough and she had to work late at times, or attend classes from time to time, while I cooked my own food, studied on my own and did many things myself. My mom knew I was lonely and we even had conversations about how I did not have siblings, and what the mom said in the end was almost exactly like what my mom told me. She knew I needed company and got me a fighting fish, it may sound silly but, it really helped with the tough times. But I wish times were as simple as that. Now I am in my last push in my studies, times are a lot tougher, but I hope that the faith my mom had in me can push me further.
Wow! His mother brought him up well to be an independent, confident, yet a compassionate person. Kudos to her. Inspiring film on parenthood when life gets difficult.
Thats what i do since childhood. When people look at me because they have underestimated me. Look on their face is amazing to see. All of us have hidden strength than why judge. People who judge make fool of themselves.
What!!!! This child is cooking the food then cleaning the house, doing the laundry then doing homework... and this child is so young me i never done this before actually until i was big girl only this child is really amazing.
It is heartening to note the boy grown up and matured, it is OK to be afraid of something, shows he is still a child. He will grow up well and get over his loneliness, only that he takes the role of the father and mother too. Actually it is the son who should be teaching the mother to take care of her health and sleep early so that she won't pass away like his father. That would make a good story.
I know if she teaches her son to be independent but he was afraid of dark, doesn't she needs to hug him first and says her word after it :( I feel bad for the boy
Impressive! I also start to do housework at the age of 10 and started to cook simple things at the age of 12. I am a fellow Singaporean and I think it's ok for kids to start doing housework and cooking at an early age. My parents are always busy so they hardly had time for me but I became independent it's like I don't really need them.
it reminded me when I was little, my mother was sick and my father took her to city for medical treatment for 3 years, my father visit me once every week, luckily my neighbor is very good person

I believe that children should be allowed to express themselves freely without the fear of parents demurring them for it. After all, they are learning too, as their parents are too. I am an older person now, with a daughter and at first, I forgot this one precept and I was very impatient with her initially when she was very young. If it came down to it, I would dismiss her fears, or whatever, and told her to behave, just like my father and, particularly, my mother would have done. I realised that no one learns from this situation when one dominates the other. After all, we are supposed to be a family, not an army. Thankfully, things are a little different now because there are parents out there who see the light. However, there remains a large portion of Singaporeans, and Malaysians in particular, who still bring their children up in the old ways where tough love is the way to go where terms like "tiger parenting" spawn.
What a good and helpful son also that means that the mom did a good job raising her mom.also I was crying the whole time for some reason! 1like=10 comments

Bravery is developed by loving, caring, and intimacy....
The child is forced to grow up too fast... all he wants is his mum's love and time
