I got the inline thermostat on my V8 down here in Arizona and I never had an issue overheating but I didn't like mine always running around 200 to 217 so I got the inline now and I'm always in the 180s it's amazing.
Stop leak, blue devil, etc, can work for a while, but when it finally gives way, your engine is toast and not worth repairing. One things didn't hear him talk about in this video, is bleeding/ flushing the coolant system correctly. A lot of times, if there is an air bubble in the coolant system, it allows the coolant to boil, which is bad. This can be caused by a few things. Bad radiator cap, a hose/ radiator that is leaking, bhg, bhg fixed but not properly bled, etc.
My 1997 4.6 Range Rover started heating up in stop and go traffic the other day spitting coolant out of the reservoir. I have a digital temp gauge hooked up to monitor temp readings while I drive and it reached 117 C before I shut it down and let it cool off. (The warmest the engine has ever reached was 104 C in 90 F weather after sitting in the emissions line idling for 20 minutes and never exceeding that temperature.) I started it back up and watched it drop from 104 back down to 82 where it averages while cruising in warm weather, even though the coolant reservoir was empty on the way home. During both instances, I've never heard the condenser/cooling fans kick on even though they engage when the A/C is turned on. My fan clutch rotates a blades width when warm. I also noticed the boilover occurred before reaching 100 C. as I made a stop and noticed coolant leaking from the breather hose, but on the way home, 5 minutes in traffic was all it took to get up to 117 C which read 3/4 to the red overheat mark. I replaced the head gaskets 1000 miles ago as cyl 4 & 6 had 2 breaks, one to the exterior from cyl. 6 and between 4 and 6 cylinders, I didn't notice any steam cleaned piston tops or slipped liners. I don't have any exterior coolant leaks. The ECU is supposed to energize relays 13 or 14 to activate the left or right fan when the engine coolant temp reaches 100 C or so. Since the fans work, but not when they are needed, I am thinking of connecting them to a dedicated switch so I can operate them at will. Any other suggestions? Thank you kindly.
Hello great info. I have a 2016 Range Rover sport and the overheating light came on and heard some ticking pulled over, car shut off. Towed it home and topped off coolant the next day. But now it just cranks over and no start?? Is there a reset on these engines. Also checked engine oil for water but looks ok. Thank you
I have a 1997 discovery 3.9l. Its had an overheating problem for 5 years now. I've had the gaskets replaced but now the radiator leaks like hell. I have to move with water to refill after every 25km. PLEASE HELP.
need advice, once my engine is warm, the coolant overflow line just continuously lets coolant run on the ground. I have changed the Thermostat, but the issue continues. Any advice?
Have got a problem getting my1996 p38 Range Rover start. Have change the engine with a 1999 gems 3 weeks ago. starts and run fine for a day, then cuts out. Change the petrol pump which was faulty aswell the engine fuse and relay compartment which I thought was faulty. Buy a new battery and now it still only crank but won't start. Question is do you have some sensor that'spreventing it from keeping up? Or can you help me out on the issue please. Been 3 weeks now its parked up.
why is my upper radiator hose hard? no overheating issues or leaks. she runs great to have 168k. I have an external temp Guage for my coolant that stay right around 183-185oF. I'm just curious as to if that top radiator hose building so much pressure is normal.
I have a 2001 Land Rover Discovery its overheating I was thinking head gaskets but there is no leakage anywhere around the motor when I turn on the car and let it run for a little while the radiator fan does not come on should the fan be on all the time please let me know?
New to me 03 disco SE with 200,000mi. Right away did some maintenance, new radiator, thermostat and installed coolant temp gauge on the bleeding tee, which I replaced with brass so I could tap. After 15-20 min of idle, temp reads 225F. Going down the road at 65mph about the same. In town gets 235F. I've blown 2 hoses in last day, overcast or raining in the 60sF. Clutch fan free spins to next blade or 2 when cold and maybe spins a little easier when hot. Factory gauge never goes above horizontal. Did coolant flush. I can keep about 5 degrees cooler with heater blasting. No leaks, not loosing coolant. If hose disconnected and I fire up the coolant comes out, so pump is working, not sure if its working as well as it should. Cap on the reservoir never blew. Could it be the cap or the pump or the clutch fan? Electric fan does come on, but turns off with engine, even after a hose blew off. Please let me know what you think. Thanks much for your time.
My Land Rover Discovery II keeps overheating. I had my Head Gaskets re-done, raplaced the Radiator Fan, and I changed the Thermostat. The Water Pump and Radiator is good. What else could it be?
hi guys I own a range rover 2008 supercharge vouge form last 4 days a fault indication shows engine system fault and it appears some time when I switch on the car and sometimes while driving but when it happens while driving the gears won't change more the third gear I had to stop the car and switched it off and re switched on then it will go back to normal. Please any one can advise me
at 1:52 I have to replace the small heater hose and I am wondering is all I have to do is take off the 4 bolts that hold the ac unit on pull that back and I would be able to change the hose?
My 2002 Disco: The number 1 cylinder is missing, causing the engine to spit and buck. I have new plugs and all new cooling system. Could it be clogged fuel injectors? Cables? or something more sinister? If you can help in any way, I'd appreciate the suggestions.
i was having over heating problems with my 02 discovery 2, and the coolent was leaking, someone told me to use stopleak and i have had no problems for around two years now, and i put some miles on it sense then..
About to do a transmission service on my 2003 range Rover hse. how many quarts of transmission fluid do I need and what's the best brand at a cheap price?
I got land rover freelander the management light is on I got someone with laptops but got not find problem can you guys advice me please it also smoking very badly what's the cause of it
Hey Guys, I have a 2006 RR sport with a rare overheating problem, It only happens when you`re stucked in heavy traffic. I`ve checked for the obvious things like thermostat, coolant at normal level, fan clutch seems to be working ok, no leaks. The only message I get is "Low coolant level" but its a false alarm, I assume the sensor is bad, I don`t know what else to check. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Great video. Question i can drive in the city no problem but when i take it on the highway and then come into the city the temperature starts to rise then i have to let it cool down before it goes into the red.. Please don't tell me i have a block problem? I also can hear the coolant bobbling at the top of the engine area.
Thanks but I have a range rover freelander and it overheat the fan is not running and I dont know how to fix that. also the cooling level is to where is suppost to be. I have a small oil leak so I need to fix that as well. but the car overheat after a few seconds running.
I have a 2003 Freelander, is over heating i have change the thermostat, water pump no leaks and the fans are working same as the radiator. I change all of this items it was overheating and losing antifreeze A LOT. So i check and it was the water pump after three weeks it started to overheating again and then I check all of the items like i said in the beginning. I don't know what else to check for anyone can help me what can it be??
My Discovery 99 v8 often overheats, I have done all that is possible and not obite success, the temperature does not fall. When I turn on the air conditioners, this overheating happens faster. This only happens on the road where the engine is required. What can I do?
Hugo Alencar my 99 Range Rover sits in the driveway- waiting for me to figure out the overheating prob.. meanwhile I drive my 89 Toyota Land Cruiser everyday!!
Hugo Alencar When something like this happens to me I usually figure it needs a better system. I just bought a Disco 2 and the heads of course are jacked...but I want to refine the system so it doesn't fail again. Sounds like a factory fuckup to me. So my plan is to get a larger aftermarket radiator. Ditch the stinking fan clutch and wire up a couple big beefy Taurus fans to it. A good quality thermostat, some water wetter and some premium antifreeze. I am used to doing this to hi performance engines..but this small power plant? Just ridiculous. As for the Land Cruisers. They are badass vehicles but parts are a pain in the ass to find which is why I sold my Land Cruiser 80 and when you DO find parts, they want your 1st born. They are badass though.
my range rover is a 96 and the expansion tank is boiling out every 2 to 3 days and making the car overheat... I have new radiator and thermostat so I am not sure what the issue is can someone advise
Might have a head gasket leak causing the cooling system to be pressurized. You can test for hydrocarbons in the cooling system. If you have a small leak somewhere, you might be losing coolant and then overheating. Buy a cooling system pressure tester to troubleshoot your system. On range rovers, common leaks are o-rings for heater core and heater core itself inside the vehicle (check passenger side carpets), throttle body heater plate, thermostat, water pump and head gasket. All are pretty easy to change.
The radiator is aluminum, which is a metal. The shroud over the radiator is plastic. You don't need a radiator cap, because, like most newer vehicles, it has an overflow area. You fill the overflow instead of the radiator directly, and instead of venting coolant when it's hot, it flows into the overflow area.

Nice extra info there on pressure testing the cylinder block. Haven't seen that anywhere else

Really? You recommend changing the engine but not checking the thermostat?

Hi Jim,
You didn't mention a possible fault with the thermostat. That could cause overheating due to non-circulation of the coolant and water.
need advice, once my engine is warm, the coolant overflow line just continuously lets coolant run on the ground. I have changed the Thermostat, but the issue continues. Any advice?
radiator cap

Jimbo, lower intake manifold gasket is another likely coolant leak area. Just changed one out on my 04 DII.

Heater core probably have it flushed its simple and fast
The radiator was clogged. I bought a new one and a new water pump. It runs good now, no more over heating.
Damn u a baller 4 real lol
Lol, I WISH!!!!
Now THAT is the first sensible answer to this!
Thank you!

Global Commerical Business how did you fix this problem.
Seems to be the gearbox switch XYZ
i have an '06 doing the same. did you ever get to the bottom of the issue? I'm going to assume you did. and I'm going to pray it didn't cost thousands
Had the same problem on Disco 1 block radiator .

+Paul Marrone Ever find out what it was?
Good day. Could you kindly assist what may be causing my 3.9 rover to overheat only at high revs or when im doing over 100km per hour
Clocked block

Hi Will! We have a complete transmission service kit for your Range Rover available here: www.roverparts.com/Parts/TRANSM200SKA
Thank you!
I got land rover freelander the management light is on I got someone with laptops but got not find problem can you guys advice me please it also smoking very badly what's the cause of it
Abby Abigail that could be the intercooler hose needing changing it might be split car was sluggish and smoking from the exhaust

Daniel Justiniano did u find out what was wrong
Hi Daniel, Your symptoms indicate a possible restriction in the radiator or blockage in front of it.
love your company!!
"Its's easy to do"....the motor is just a few bucks....it's easy he says! 😁
Will this work on my 2003 Range Rover Hse
How to solve the acelerator automatich sensor??

That swishing sound when you press on the gas? That’s air in the system and needs to be held properly.
Thanks but I have a range rover freelander and it overheat the fan is not running and I dont know how to fix that. also the cooling level is to where is suppost to be. I have a small oil leak so I need to fix that as well. but the car overheat after a few seconds running.
No such thing and a Range Rover Freelander, It is a Land Rover and a huge pile of crap.
my range coolant level below max a little when I opened expansion cap it rise to max without overheat .Is it normal?
yes
what stop leak did you use?
I have a 2003 Freelander, is over heating i have change the thermostat, water pump no leaks and the fans are working same as the radiator. top hat liners won't fix a leaking block. they only cure slipped liners.
it's not a Rover block if it doesn't leak a little oil ;-)

i have a 1994 turbo 2.4 landroer oil light flashes then temp goes up could it b oil filter
Same thing happening to. My discovery did you repaired that?
where is the map sensor on a 2.5 2005 freelander
No mention of checking water pump to make sure it’s not the issue.
What if you check coolant and coolant is gone?
I'm experiencing the same issue. Whenever my LR3 overheats, the coolant disappears. What was your solution?
Doris Anazie just added more coolant and check daily coolant level maintains level
I have problems with the AC radiator
He forget to mention the water pump that can go out too, please check the water pump too
Guys have you got hay video how to take off hay manifold from hay p38 Range Rover v8 driver-side
No I have not.
That sounds like $$$$$$$
Sell it. And don’t ever buy another one.
