I am so blessed to discover music as if it's first time in my life. I appreciate that I don't know anything about music and can learn and enjoy it.

For many years the overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila was the only work of Glinka that I had ever heard and very good it is too. There is very much more to enjoy as demonstrated on this excellent 2CD set. The companion 2CD set of Glazunov's works is also superb. Svetlanov was my favourite conductor when it came to Russian music.

Astonishing music, brilliantly performed with high-speed virtuosity by Svetlanov and his players! The oriental dances are absolutely stunning.... and this was 1842!!! Glinka, it could be argued, was way ahead of his time. Vibrant, visceral and sparkling with orchestral colour! Wonderful!!!

What ho, Rodgers! Thank-you for the upload. This is one of the best performances of this selection to be found. 🙂 👍

Welcome to a silent future, where evil dictator Thaddius Vent has banned music forever. But a piano is fighting back; a piano called OSCAR!
LOL couldn't resist, since this classical track is used in the opening to the BBC Classic Oscar's Orchestra starring the late Dudley Moore...
