    I'm learning about the slow recovery myself at the age of 41. I got run over on March 4th and just got out of the hospital. Shattered leg, broken hip, broken ribs on my left side. 4 surgeries, dead spleen, lost half of a kidney, had to have my lung drained and ported. Lost my PCX but didn't lose my life.

      🤯 OMG... I'm so sorry to hear that, Phil! I'm glad you're still with us, and I hope your recovery continues. I was very fortunate that I escaped without any broken bones or being run over by other cars on the highway.
      How did your accident happen? 🙏 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard @robbiecan . Thanks. I was hit by an inattentive driver that made a sudden left turn in front of me. I had zero escape and not enough time to stop. I aimed towards his direction of travel and that's why all of the damage was on my left side. Now it's more rehab for me while lawyers and doctors fight over insurance money.

    I got the 2024 ruckus in Oct, kinda wish I had got navi because of how slow ruckus is, don't get me wrong, the ruckus is a very comfortable great /perfect ride for city, but really struggles on hills, and I livevin Pittsburgh the hill capital of the u.s.
    But iam now going to be upgrading, and I think I've settled on the zuma 125 mostly from seeing how good it's been for your buddy Neil,
    The new zuma has different motor and things, but Yamaha seems to really perfect the scooters they put out, and I really don't want the smart key on the honda adv, and the extra 1000$
    Really sorry to hear life's been rough for you Quasi, hope you feel better soon, and looking forward to more journeys with you on utube, best wishes bud!!

    The lawyers are giving you prudent advice, and you are right to ignore it. Life is about balancing risk vs happiness. Riding at all is a completely unnecessary risk, says the man who has never swung a leg over a bike.
    It is great to have you back!

    I got smashed up pretty bad on my Helix last June. Guy took an illegal left and I hit him nearly head on with no time to react. Broke half my ribs and ruptured my spleen. It took many months before I was able and even willing to get back in the saddle again, but I'm sure happy I did and I'm glad to see you do the same. Stay safe and recover well brother!

    I have a pinched nerve in my left arm, neck… somewhere. Have diminished feeling in the ring finger and pinky on my left hand. Other than not knowing if I hit the right keys on the keyboard with those two fingers I’ve just gotten used to it. Those 2 fingers feel like they are asleep all the time. No problem with the clutch lever or holding onto the handlebars. I do notice that I might drop something I’m holding sometimes though. Hope you make a full recovery

I still love my Navi , but l am falling in love with my XR150L , simple to ride handles well , I can pick it up no problem . And is a close second for a plush ride compared to my GL1800 , My left hand had nerve damage , it did repair itself , it was a long time . Hope things get better soon
    Goodluck.
    P.S. I purchased a second Navi box and lock , ( no lock retaining clip included, odd)
    For my top box .

    It’s fair to say none us know when we’d be hit, and so while we may plan for the slide that’s not to say we intend for it to ever happen.
    A few years before I took up riding last year, a brother in law got T-boned at a light and was dragged under the SUV that hit him. I saw what he went through afterwards and he never got back in again.
    I don’t know if I could come back, especially from a surprise hit like you took. I appreciate your positive attitude.

    Glad to see you back in the saddle. Living with chronic back pain for a few years now. Similar symptoms like yours. Curious to see how your back will behave now on the rebel 1100 with the mid- forward controls. Still my main reason why I prefer pegs below me. (I drive a cb500f and can brace for a pothole) But I could purchase the 1100 dct down the road. Cheers bro. Solar eclipse up here will be 99.9% so staying put😊

    Can the Rebel shocks be replaced with something better? The Bitubo shocks on my Sportster were a life changer and spine saver. The seat on that Rebel would need changing for something better as well. Man, I'd love to try one of those Rebels though. Regardless, great to see you back in the saddle!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, there are a few aftermarket shocks for the Rebel 1100 now. I haven't tried any of them yet, but Burly Brands has a set, and I think Öhlins has a fitment as well. My original plan was to work with Öhlins to develop a set of rear shocks and also fork cartridge inserts for the Rebel 1100. Unfortunately, my life and money situations have changed and thrown a big monkey wrench in to those plans. 😉👍 --QM

    10:32 the nicest remark for that Houstonian!
    Glad you're recovering after your crash. Any advice you would give to prevent a crash like that out on the highways? I take my MSF course next week and been practicing around my neighborhood and a metro station for the last 4 months. Its nice to see a moto vlogger covering footage on lower speed bikes in our treacherous city and I've just subscribed to learn more from you!

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the feedback and the sub! I've been riding on the streets for nearly 40 years and well over 2M miles, so it's difficult to remember the feeling of riding as a "newbie". However, every city is different, so that new/uncertain feeling always happens while traveling and when traffic patterns are unpredictable. If you're from Houston, then you already have a good idea of what to expect from our aggressive and oblivious cagers.
      My best advice is what they will hopefully teach you in the MSF class: Assume that you are invisible and always EXPECT other motorists to hit you (whether accidentally or intentionally). If you ride proactively and defensively, then you'll be able to steer clear of 99% of the road incidents that are waiting for you.
      Always look through traffic ahead of you and scan your mirrors every few seconds to anticipate impending doom (e.g., traffic stack-ups, closing distance between distracted cagers, road debris, etc). Situational awareness is the key to riding successfully, which most cagers COMPLETELY lack... so we must be extra vigilant to avoid their short-sightedness.
      Strategic lane usage and lane positition in the city are crucial to survival:
      1. NEVER ride on the edge of a lane if you can avoid it. Ride in the center of the lane (position 2) to avoid being bullied or clipped by cagers. Don't believe any MSF instructors who tell you to hog the lane toward the left side to "protect your lane"... that BS will get you hit in Houston.
      2. NEVER ride through Houston's intersections in the right lane so you can avoid cagers blowing right-on-red or red lights. Similarly, don't ride the left lane on feeder roads with dedicated U-turn lanes because cagers will run thru those without looking and push you into adjacent traffic.
      3. NEVER tailgate behind traffic any closer than a 1-2 second following distance. This gives you time to evade road debris or make emergency braking without becoming a hood ornament for the tailgating cager behind you. About 2 seconds distance is the "golden rule", but our cagers will constantly cut in front of you if you leave too much space. So, 1.0-1.5 sec is the usual buffer here without enraging the cagers behind you for being "too cautious".
      There are lots of additional road-smart tips from decades of riding, but it's too hard to distill here...
      Good luck with your MSF class and getting into riding. Be safe, and I hope to see you out there one day! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Howdy, Chuck, and thanks for watching! That is a standard size agricultural "tool tube" that is normally used to hold operator's manuals and tools on farm equipment. You can find them at AgriSupply.com (cheaper) or on Amazon (slightly more expensive) amzn.to/3VbRtcL . The tube's inner diameter should be 3.25-3.50 inches (80-85mm) for most 850-1000mL fuel bottles.
      I mounted the tool tube on the side of the factory rack with heavy-duty black zip-ties, which can be seen at the beginning of this video: th-cam.com/video/Rq7IB7cS6IU/w-d-xo.html . Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      Wow, sorry to hear that, John! I'm still hopeful that my symptoms will subside and give me some relief. Sleeping at night has been a real challenge for the past 6 months... always waking up in pain with burning and throbbing in my arms and hands. It's slowly getting better, but it's a long and painful road. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard The doctors are still debating if there is something that can be done. They found some compression damage in the L7 area, and nerves are in a pinch. (Many years of operating heavy macinery is most likely the culprit) Anyways. I know what you are going through, and you have all of my best wishes for a successful recovery. Happy to see a new ride video!! Is that a "tube cargo compartment" on the left side of the Navi? if so, do you think there are some that will fit the 500X? Tried google searching but I may not be using the correct wording

      Do a search for motorcycle tool tube and I believe you'll find what you're looking for. There are a wide variety of companies and sizes available, and Honda even makes one but I don't know if it's a universal exterior mount or not.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that's an agricultural "tool tube" or "manual tube". I purchased mine through AgriSupply.com because they usually have the best prices. I store a 1 qt aluminum MSR or Primus liquid fuel bottle in there as a backup fuel supply.
      I have two of those tubes mounted on my XT250. The large one (like on the Navi) holds the fuel bottle, and a smaller one holds a small can of WD-40, zip ties, and other small tools. 😉👍 --QM

    Does the CB500X have a good easy clutch pull? Since your hands aren't fully healed and all.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the clutch action on the CB500X is very manageable. I don't think I'll have any problems squeezing the lever and maintaining control. The pain and numbness in my arms and hands might be the more significant challenge. Wish me luck! 😉👍 --QM

    Sir, what tires do you use on this bike? Mine, the same model, doesn't come with very good tire. It is so slippery in when it is raining. And also when it is windy, it feels like it doesn't even have good grip on the ground.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm still rolling on the original tires... MXF or something like that. They are terrible tires and they are dangerous on wet surfaces. I'm still planning to replace them with something better... preferably Michelin or Metzeler if I can find the right sizes. 😉👍 --QM

      Hmm... could have been bad data pairs on the ethernet cable or a stuck IP (wrong subnet)? Usually, a factory reset will recover those and let you readopt them in the dashboard. 🤷‍♂️

      @@QuasiMotard that sucks! At least you may be made somewhat whole again down there. In Canada the ability to do so up is limited. The system caps the ability to be awarde decent settlements and difficult to have proper punishment assigned.
      We went through a nightmare 25 years ago. Five tons of a lumber yard ramming our family mini van driven by my wife and carrying my two sons and my dad. The truck driver decided to run a red light and speeding. He was charged with dangerous driving causing injury but plead down to lesser charge with court not recognizing injury. My 18 month old son wasin ICU with skull fracture and has had issues ongoing related to accident.
      We had to sue our and his insurance companies and got really next to nothing in cost recovery for his injuries. In Canada they sorry and thats it.
