She wanted Michael to be like her and the ONLY thing that made it impossible was his love for his brother first. Remember it was the General who told the boys that their dad was an executioner, which proves true in the flashbacks when he went to rescue Michael from his abusive forster father, he butchered the guy. The General forces Lincoln to agree to work for him by revealing that their mother is alive because of the treatment they gave her, which is the same treatment Michael needs, the General sends a shrink to manipulate Michael into joining the Company using the family card again. Christina was attempting to tear the bond the boys had, so that she could use Michael.
