This is awesome. Have played FF1 too many times already. Some scenarios are incredibly imbalanced, but hey, I usually solo wargame anyway. The system of COH is the best I have ever seen in a wargame.
@18:15 the Soviet unit should be attacking the German unit's flank. See 7.2 in the rules: "Attacks originating from outside of a unit's Arc of Fire are considered flank attacks and are resolved against the unit's flank DR."
At 24:30 you say suppression reduces the defence value of the defender, but it shouldn't, it only affects the firepower. Something like Panicked would reduce their defence value.
I hope you cover the SOLO expansion for this game as it is complete DYNAMITE. Btw This video is one of the best instruction videos for any game. Grtz !!!
Nice tutorial, thanks for that. In 29:25 German Unit defence rating should be 12, suppressed only modify Attack AP cost and Attack Rating. Not Defence Rating.
Spectacular video! Congratulations, and thank you for your efforts to help us all get this game played more often. Can I ask what software you used to make the presentation?
+Dan Freeborn Thanks, Dan. Nothing fancy. I use Microsoft Powerpoint for organizing the visuals and put the slides together with a recorded dialogue soundtrack in Microsoft Movie Maker. I like to keep all the elements loose so I can quickly edit any aspect of the content. It also keeps the production manageable for just one person.
Quick Question: German Deployment on Round #1 - I always played that you have to actually move onto the map with APs/CAPs and never deployed my whole force onto the first Map Row - did I play that wrong or did you might have a little error here? Nevertheless - great Fan of your videos! Keep going - always a pleasure to show them to my friends when we want to play a new wargame :)
This is a great video and easy to follow along. I've been enjoying your videos this week and are helping me gear up for some hex and counter games this week. Any chance you would be interested in doing US Civil War by GMT?
At 26:03 why does the russian get the -2 modifier? His range is 9 and the german is 9 hexes away. Just clarifying to ensure i am playing the rules correctly, I have been assuming range was counted from the first hex after the one the unit is in is range 1 and counting from there ie not including the hex the actual unit shooting is in. Is that wrong?
John Peel I'm glad you noticed that too, I was thinking the exact same thing. Though with the roll of 8 it didn't matter, but it was still kind of confusing.
You have inspired me to buy this game.
Thanks for the in-depth tutorial, you are a great teacher!
Thanks for this tutorial. I bought this game and never understood the rules. Till now. The overview you provide is very good!
You're welcome, Carlos. Enjoy!
Quite the best CofH tutorial on TH-cam- well done.

Thx for the explanation. I was wondering so many times that situation. Happens a lot when I play CoH
Really awesome video!Big THX from Switzerland, keep up the great work!

Wish u would do a rules for Lock N load ! This is professionally done!!
Very nicely done. Many new gamers will be grateful for this movie!

I get a lot of requests for this. I'll have to dig my copy of of the closet and read through the rules.
Awesome video! Any chance you can do the Solo expansion and the Firefight generator?
+Robert Yee Thanks, Robert. I'll look into those expansions.
Thanks for posting, Ben: about to start our first game this afternoon.
How do you understand so many complicated rules puzzles me! It takes me weeks.... Great Job! Thank you!
You're welcome! Don't feel bad. It takes me weeks too. It just looks fast in the tutorial.
Outstanding instructional video. Thank you so much for the time taken to do this.
Your videos are excellent, very good job.
Great game and great video for explaining it. I've been looking for an ASL replacement for a long time.
You are a super teacher. The best!
Thanks, Bruno!
Thank you so much. This was really helpful.
The position of the flank and front number is weird. Since the "front" is the "top", it should be on top, not bottom.
Thanks for this Ben! Only just got into Conflict Of Heroes. Will you do another one of these for the 3rd edition rules ?
Yes. I'm going to do Storms of Steel first and then probably Awakening the Bear.
@@harsh-rules Thanks Ben! Always look forward to your breakdowns.
Is this tutorial usable with 1st edition? As I have that one. thanks
How does a group action work ?
super clear, thanks for the video!
Nice tutorial, thanks for that. In 29:25 German Unit defence rating should be 12, suppressed only modify Attack AP cost and Attack Rating. Not Defence Rating.
You're welcome and thanks for the clarification.

Thanks for the reply! That's very helpful. And I hope you keep making videos. They are excellent. All the best!
Nice tutorial video, thanks a lot !
you never do a second part of this game, whyyyyy?

What edition is this?

I've had other folks ask for this one as well. Since I don't have a civil war tutorial on the channel, It would be a good fit. I'll think about it.
The Front and Flank numbers should be the other way around Front number nearest the forward facing green marker, just seems logical to me.
Interesting game coming from ASL, maybe a good option for quick solo battles, a little hokey though but not bad.
Thank you. That is very helpful!!
Which system do you prefer conflict or European commander?
Both are good, but I'm partial to the Conflict system.

Great! We have also recently made a review of this gem on our channel. One of those games, that you return with pleasure from time to time!
Cool! I'll have to check it out.
Great video man, thanks so much!
Very well made Video.
very cool video and very informative
Amazing
Rambo does not approve of Hollywood war movies either.
suppression doesn't effect the defender ! - learn rules before making a video
