However, there are a bunch of shops in the city center that sell a good selection of film cameras. So in this video I am going to explore the film camera shops in Mexico City together with my friend Alejandro and let's see what we can find.
See you soon in the next one!

Great video! It’s always nice to see how camera shops look like in other countries.

Would have been super useful to share the names of the shops or at least the area! Reviews are great but if people can’t actually go to the area it’s a bit redundant.

$1500 for the Hasselblad isn’t bad, its a decent price if its in good condition.

I think the Rolleiflex cameras were priced the best all the others were over priced. Only thing is to make sure the Rollei is working good. Also great video!!!

I would recommend you checking out a Yashica Lynx 14 😎👍🏼 seemed like some shops had Yashicas… not sure it was the Lynx-14 though

It’s nice to know where all the used film cameras are at!
Time to put those haggling skills into practice.

That Rolllei 80 2.8 looked great and for € 500,- is quite cheap but there were some issues (and we haven't seen it all)
But a camera purchase to be considered IMO even the € 600,- one
That Contax was far too much for a T2, btw get a G2 instead !
Where in the world can you get a cheap deal for a good film camera nowadays , people aren't stupid anymore .
Love this shop hunting as a side step to your normal street photography videos.
    Well done.
    Thanks for sharing !

the viewing lens is always 2.8 on a rollei. You have to look at the taking lens to see what the aperture/ model is. It will be 3.5 or 2.8 aperture and 80mm or 75mm focal length (there is a wide and tele version but very uncommon to find)

Sometimes f3.2 on Rolleicord viewing lenses

I would send any of those higher end cameras straight for a CLA, to have no disappointments or wasted film.

    USD250 for a Minolta X700?! Holy S***.
I have a vast collection of 35mm cameras. ~40 cameras, countless lenses. SLRs, rangefinders, the whole kitchen sink. I bought most of my gear in the early 2000s when everyone was dumping it for their first DSLR. I think I paid EUR20 for my X700 (mint condition).

The Rolleiflex cameras weren’t so bad. I’ve torn one open to clean the insides before never had an issue they’re built very well. The Hasselblad was an okay price. I got mine for $1500 2 years ago but that included 6 film backs, a ttl viewfinder (Kiev one that I don’t use) and a bunch of other stuff(in the US). The kit goes for like $3000 now I’m pretty sure. The film prices at those shops were absurd. I didn’t realize there was a film camera scene in Mexico I’m gonna have to check it out and try to negotiate prices a bit.

Rollei 2.8 is ok! Can be repaired anywhere! Mexico City is new JAPAN for camera shopping? At least equipment are nice and dry! No fungus! Mexico city looks like normal city! SAfe?

think the Rollei's were a cool find , it's hard to find a Rolleiflex for under $800.00 - $1,000 and Rolleicord for $800.00-$500.00 , but of course that's in mint condition

Problem with the Rolleiflex cameras: nearly 100% of the these need to be serviced, also the latest produced models. Checked some Rolleiflexes some years ago. Especially the cheaper cameras often were completly broken. there are not that much good camera mechanics in the world who still have some spare parts. the result is that the service is more expensive then the used camera itself. Cheap Rolleiflexes are dangerous ;)

the 2nd rolleiflex 2.8 sounds good, can't get a decent one under 1000€ in the EU!
...could we make a deal? 😁
