    Here in Bangkok the current situation is similar to a lot of other places right now. All none essential shops are closed but before of all of that started I teamed up with my buddy Ivan and we filmed a video about camera shopping in Bangkok. Even though it is super hot at the moment, we had a lot of fun exploring some of the camera shops in Thailand's capital.
    Hope you enjoy the episode, see you in the next one! :)

    The cameras there in the shops are too expensive compare to Europe. Way too expensive!

    Another place where I recommend for shopping film camera in Bangkok is MEGA PLAZA, there are many shops on the 5th floor :)

    very enjoyable video. I do agree siam tlr is a very nice shop, been their lots of time. the price is not bad and the owner is really friendly and the service is great. Another place I would recommend you is Mega plaza burapa, go to 5th floor there's a lot of film camera store up there you can find everything from compact cameras to leica to old 4x5 cameras.

    Great video Robin! i made a few street photography videos based on my recent trip to Korea and Japan and those videos were inspired by your How I Shoot series, thank you so much for constantly inspiring other photographers *also in Seoul, South Korea film rolls were expensive too, over 10 bucks for portra 400 so I settled for the kodak gold 200 which was 7 bucks, still expensive haha

    I love how you found the Kodak 126/7 instamatic cool, and found the Kodak disc camera interesting, yet we thought they were dire when we had them from new.
    The cameras sounded overpriced as far as I could see.

    The Rolleiflex that you viewed at 09:30 is a Rolleiflex T with 75mm f3.5 taking lens. The T range was a budget alternative with Tessar or Xenar lenses like the Rolleicord series but the advantage of lever wind. At almost €2000 that is about 4x more expensive than it should be. They sell for under £500 in the UK, even from bricks and mortar camera shops. If you are tempted don't be put off by the fact that they were originally more of a mid range Rollei. The Xenar and Tessar lenses are still excellent performers with good character and they take Bay 1 accessories which are more affordable and easier to find.

      @@Scarrr3d Sure thing, mega plaza in Chinatown is a great spot right now depending on what kind of lens you're looking for. There may be a number of film photography gear events like the one they had at the Lido Connect building in Siam last week so i would go to some shops and find someone speaking english, then ask about events and expos.

As you found out the film price in BKK is crazy so I've been struggle to uphold my film photography hobby. Nevertheless the Labs you dropped by provide excellent quality of developing and scanning which are upside of BKK film photography. There are some other famous shops in BKK but I wonder how you chose them.

    It's 2020 and I went back to film (35mm) using Canon's EOS camera bodies (I have six of them) and five EF lenses do to the high cost of going to a DSLR full frame camera. All used equipment from Ebay of course in excellent to mint condition. Right now I have my film processed and scanned through a company called "The Dark Room" located in California and they are still open for business!

    The yashica 44 uses 127 film. Bigger than 35mm but smaller than 120. I believe the film has been discontinued for a while. I have a film cutter that cuts 120 film down to 127. Problem is, its spool film, so you have to source the spools

    Film prices are what put me off using my analogue cameras now. I used to think it was expensive back in the 70s, 80s and 90s, but now it's just ridiculously expensive because it's now trendy / cool to shoot film.
    Anyone want some hardly used analogue trend setters ?
    EOS1, 650, 600, AT-1, A-1 Underwater,
    Yashica T4

    • @FramesPerSecond
      @FramesPerSecond 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Taylor The film prices are also so the companies don’t have to file for bankruptcy again after only getting out of it a few years ago.

    • @kiwipics
      @kiwipics 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FramesPerSecond .... My problem is that I started with film back in 1977, and it was the norm not a trend. A roll of film was still expensive in a way, but only because I was still at school. Film was about £2.50, and processing / printing was about the same. The only real expense came when shooting Kodachrome, but it was an all inclusive cost.
      Apart from ilford, Fuji (and Kodak .. just), the film companies aren't the original manufacturers of the films / emulsions of past years, and most are just rebranded anyway.
      I also don't get why shooting expired film has become a trend ... weird.

    If you want to get some good film cameras and lenses I would suggest you go to Guangzhou ,China. A Canon film camera will cost you about 100 USD max with the lens. Also most of the vintage lenses about 50 USD. Thailand is the worst place for cameras and electronics.

    The Yashica tlr produces 4x4 cm negatives. It's their alternative to the baby Rolleiflex.

    I think you went to the wrong places for film camera shopping in BKK that’s why the price was way too high. I’m Thai and I live in BKK all of my life. My suggestions (if you guys still in Thailand), check these Instagrams out: aroundtheflim ; highly recommended! because the owner is so friendly and capable to find many rare film cameras in good condition, filmfotocamera, rareitem111 and kongfilms ; reasonable film roll price.

    Surely they expect to barter!! Those prices are out of touch.

    You want expensive Portra 400 Robin? Come to Japan it's $17.00 per roll here, better not ask about Portra 800! It's even more...$$$
