Golden Taste of Asia:
Today I travel to Bradford, Ontario, Canada to eat Indian and Sri Lankan food I've never tried before. I get to try Sambar, Channa Curry (Chickpea Curry), KARA MASALA DOSA (SPICY) and for dessert Gulab jamun. Sambar is a lentil-based vegetable stew, cooked with pigeon pea and tamarind broth. It is popular in South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisines.
If this food adventure sounds like an exciting video that you want to watch, then grab something to eat, sit back and enjoy this video!

Being a Scarborough white boy hearing you pronounce Naan like and English grandma makes my head explode
😂
@@skullrider56YT not quite sure why he doesn't do 15 minutes of R&D when doing cultural videos like this one, the content is good until he opens his mouth and butchers the pronunciation of literally all the items and what he thinks things mean is hilarious
That's coz you're from Scarborough, you're exposed to different cultures. Some of the best food in the GTA is in Scarborough, especially Middle Eastern and Sri Lankan 🤤
I know right!! 🤣
Whitest review of Indian food ever
I mean… hes white so
If it ain’t right, it ain’t right my guy, we run shit
Can't wait to go to my local Indian store and ask for "Donut things"
Doughnut holes. Doughnut things would give you vada sambar. They actually look like doughnuts, but they are just spiced up dough, given to you in spicy soup (sambar).
@@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo9303 thank you for informing me. and ken calls himself a 'food reviewer'
@@humphreymentum It so nuts. I am in the U.S. south and they have food that is like Americanized version of Indian stuff. Fried chicken here is like tandoori. Idli and Sambar (south Indian food) is like biscuits and gravy. Weird.
😂😂😂😂😂 Kens disrespect was something else on this one. Couldn’t get over the “NAAAAN” lmao
@@ZacharyVanDyck made me kinda angry. indian cuisine is some of the best food out there
Hi Ken, big fan of yours and I am Sri Lankan. I just want to say that you none of the stuff you tried was the Sri Lankan menu it was Indian. My recommendation for you sir is to try hopper hut in Scarborough where you can have sweets sodas and food from all over the island. Don't get the lamprais tho lol.
Yeah that's true. There was no Sri Lankan in this portion of the video. The Chana masala and Naan are North Indian really while Dosa and Sambar are South Indian.
No one really cares about Sri Lanka though, its literally water drop on a world map, sorry your country is just non-existent at this point and only lives under the shadow of India
He simply posted Sri Lankan and Indian because how the store advertises their menu. It’s written on the menu and store sign, that they specialize in this type of cuisine. 🙄🙄 give it a rest already. Also “Thosai” is eaten in northern Sri Lanka. Maybe it’s not crispy like how the Indians eat it, but it’s there.
@@briejason8558 Give it a rest already? The original comment the guy gave was simply pointing out the specific items he ordered are not sri lankan. Which is true. He wasn't attacking Ken, just probably pointing it out because many viewers may not be aware. He even recommended a Sri Lankan joint for Ken and clearly would like to see Ken try Sri Lankan food. I simply stated where the dishes he did get are from specifically, for more educational purposes (and i am not incorrect). I don't know why you are tripping about the comments. Maybe you should give up being a Karen already.
@@nik2957 clearly you have no idea what a Karen is, but okay. Also I have a question for you. Is Thosai a part of Sri Lankan cuisine? Yes or no? keep in mind there are 2 major ethnics there.
Naan is a flatbread that originated in West, South, & South West Asia, and the Caribbean..
It is pronounced naan, like Ron.
Thank you! Made me cringe every time he talked about some middle age lady.
@@brnxbmr 😄
every time lol. The double AA in Naan gives it the awn sound. it would be spelled Nann the way he pronounces it lol
It’s not pronounced like Ron either. The AA is pronounced like the A in the word “father”. So “Nah-n”
I love Ken! But that was killing me!!
my eye twitched a little every time he said naan wrong lol
Can u please for the love of God...watch a authentic Indian food video on how to pronounce naan..
And lassi.. and gulab jamoon.. honestly, everything
YES... it was painful every time he said it wrong.... but I love Ken so ill let it slide
🙄
omg ikr!!! it was driving my nuts
@@BeautifulAngelBlossom his not American and it's not how you say it at all
He is so clueless haha. Entertaining but embarassing for someone reviewing food that he has no idea what he is eating or where it is from.
Ken!
Love you, but India and Sri Lanka are separate countries and different cuisines
This was all Indian food you were eating
Sri Lankan food is really hot as they use huge amounts of red chillies
They eat a lot of coconut based curries as well, and sambals
It was too hot for me when I was there 🥵🥵🥵
No one cares about Sri Lanka though
That’s actually false information. This food is basically south Asian cuisine. Eaten in both India and Sri Lanka
@@briejason8558 he ate no Sri Lankan food in this vid
They are different cuisines and it’s offensive to say they are the same
@@delightk millions of people care about Sri Lanka
Why are you jealous?
@@babymammoth6254 why do you guys waste your time commenting about the food. If you watch the video closely, it’s clearly posted on the restaurant menu and store sign. Specializing in Sri Lankan and Indian cuisine 🙄🙄🙄 hence why Ken has it up there. It’s new to him
Kara in tamil means spicy ken. That’s why on the menu it said spicy in parentheses. Masala is generally a name meant to say there’s a mixture of different spices in the dish
Who eats the naan bread on its own lol I alway dip in curry
IKR 😂
Hi Ken, for your information this is not Sri Lankan food, you got to really find a Sri Lankan restaurant to find the difference of Sri Lankan food
plenty of sri lankan tamils and muslims eat dosas and naans. do u mean sinhalese food?
Dude, you’re pronouncing the name of the foods incorrectly!
@@FalconMidget google exists just 1 minutes worth of reaserch is all he needed to do instead of being racist
All of that food is Indian as others have said but the food is also served in Sri Lanka. You should look up Martin Bakery in Scarborough and try their Chicken Kottu Roti, Kimbula buns, some bread/ pastry appetizers (fish or mutton). Always good food!
You said you watched a few youtubers so to make sure you eat it the right way, but Mr. Ken you're still not eating it exactly the way it should be eaten, you've to grab a piece of naan in your right hand, pick a spoon of the Chickpeas Curry and put it on the naan, make sure you slightly roll the naan so that you don't spoil the chickpeas stew/curry but make sure the you keep the naan open from above so you can put the Chickpeas over it, and then you Eat it, That's the Correct way to enjoy the Taste of Both, talking about Sambhar, it's actually a type of a Curry which is actually consumed along with the Dosa, so you if don't mind getting your hands a LIL BIT messy then you're supposed to take a piece of Dosa and dip it in the two chutneys and have it, and the second time you should have it with Sambhar by dipping the Dosa into it, you can do it by using a spoon, but we Indians actually belive that the best taste of your food you can have is when you eat it with your hands, yes! But it's just abt us you can use spoon while dipping dosa into the sambhar and also lemme correct one thing you can actually dip Dosa in Both Chutneys as well as the Sambhar at once but I just told you to dip it seperately so that you can enjoy their own different tastes after dipping them, but it's fine! Dip in all three at once you first piece in the chutneys and the second piece in the Sambhar, anything would do! Bon Appetite 😉✌🏻❤️
Wow I have never seen anyone eat Chana Curry and Naan like that but.. atleast you ate them at the same time! Just a tip for next time, you use pieces of your bread to scoop some of the curry, stew or whatever and then eat that.
I know, it seems so obvious and I have never had that food.
Ken you use the nan to eat the curry with instead of a spoon.
Indians will start correcting everything you did in the video in 3 ....2 ....1
I’m sure you’re saying the name of the bread wrong sir
Next time when you order Indian, check with the owner on what are the best combinations to have as he is Indian/asian and knows better.
One of the best dishes I've had was mango chicken curry.
I usually love your videos but none of that looks even remotely appealing. Looks good enough to gag a maggot! 🤮 no thanks.
Where was the mint chutney? The mint really helps to settle the stomach after you eat the food.
Eating with your hands is their traditional style of eating. They use the bread or rice with hands as their fork and spoon
White sauce is a coconut chutney and orange sauce is probably a tomato sauce. Also you can totally pair the dosa with the sambhar as well.
Not coconut chutney it’s actually peanut
I'm an American from Massachusetts and even I find it so funny that you are eating with a spoon and not the bread. You Canadians so innocent and adorable sometimes.
This dude lives close to Brampton a city filled to the brim with Indian restaurants. It's like Edison, NJ. There's no excuse.
Dosa is pronounced like dough sah.
Ken, the stew you had sambar is a side for Dosa. Try it next time.
And that cream sauce is coconut chutney
Ken, it’s pronounced Sambar, not Sabar
Ken do more research on the words and pronunciation before making a video please.
It's always nice to try new foods, and Indian always delivers on dishes with great flavour!😃
My fav is butter chicken with basmati rice and garlic naan bread. Yummmm!! What a delicious looking feast, Ken! 😃😎
Galab jamun is great its milk powder deep fried and put into a syrup👌🏻
My favorite lassi is Mango Lassi (pronounced, LAH-see). It’s sweet and very mangoy. Garlic naan is a must! (Pronounced nahn).
Honestly, if I were to eat spicy Indian food again, I would coat my stomach in yogurt or lassi first. This is so that your stomach does not rumble from all the spiciness.
Hey Ken everything you ate is south India specialities, as south India is known for their spices and culinary origins. Every part of India gets their spices and ingredients and inspirations of different dishes from South Indian alone, which don’t get much credit like we should haha.
I grew up eating and traveling to south India since I was born, my parents are from there and we had a family restaurant for 30+ years cooking South Indian foods, and my mom cooks South Indian curries at home for me too, this isn’t Sri Lankan food at all.
You gotta try Chicken Tikka Masla, chicken 65 with rice and the garlic naan. The chana masla which is what you’re eating pairs well with something called Puri, you can’t go wrong with that with some mango lasi and you’re set.
Also you gotta try Indian Kulfi which is our special Indian originated ice cream.
Take care Ken I ate exactly what you did here few days ago my mom cooked me all these dishes when we visited her with my wife and kids 😂👍.
To also answer your question when you dipped your dosa into the sauces, they are actually chutneys one is peanut and the other is tomato chutneys.
Watching later, I could eat Sambar and Dosa every day. So yummy.
Yall gotta show Ken some love..Great video buddy
It’s not an appetizers. It’s meant to be eaten with the Thosai 😂😂😂
Someone needs to invent a steering wheel tray with foldouts. 😁 Wow, that meal looked delicious Ken!!
Dip the naan in the curry!!
Ummm... Don't confuse Indian cuisine with Sri Lankan Ken. Totally different countries and cuisines. And North Indian/Punjabi cuisine is what you need to be eating. Whoever told you to try that restaurant is a fruit loop.
I’ll put my fruit in your loop
Usually served with dosa, tomato and coconut chutneys; and the sambar; All to accentuate the dosa.
A sign of a really good Indian restaurant is that the vegetarian food is way better than any of the non vegetarian food. Also the South (🇮🇳) are specialists in vegetarian cooking. The green thing is a chutney with coriander and coconut 🥥 as for the red sauce never seen it served with Dosa they usually do Smabar over here (Mumbai India).
I believe this food is more referred to as Punjabi type food. In Sarnia there's an Indian restaurant that serves breakfast both traditional and Punjabi breakfast called SItara
The stuff that I have regularly. Except for the naan & gulab jamun, it's mostly South Indian (which is what I am) cuisine. Next time ask for a chanaa batura - the chanaa tastes better with a batura or poori. Best combination. We have dosa regularly for breakfast and sometimes masala dosa for dinner. The sambar, though invented in Maharastra, became a staple in Tamil Nadu & Kerala and we have it with rice or dosa. If you are in a restaurant ask for hot gulab jamun and ice cream - deadly combination!
South Indian here too, from andra Pradesh Hyderabad
The dessert seems similar to Greek Loukoumades! They’re freaking delicious!
Hey Ken, the white sauce is a coconut chutney hence the grittiness and the red sauce is tomato based made with curry leaves mustard seeds etc you can dip it in both and enjoy also the sambhar you can chase it after you’ve taken a bite of the dosa which is made of fermented rice that’s why you’re getting slight sour cheesy notes. Great videos as always can’t wait for more trips especially abroad!
Dosa white color dip is coconut chutney. And red one would tomato chutny
This is my go to spot!!! Love it here!
You’re supposed to eat the chana masala with the naan.
It’s naan not Nan lol
The naan (small bite sized chunks) can be dipped in the chick pea curry - better to drench it well.
Similarly with dosa as well - you need to dip / drench it in the dips/chutney or the sambar(the thing you called soup)
you have to scoop the curry using the naan, would be taste better
I really enjoyed this video I haven't tried Indian food before it looked delicious and I definitely want to try it
Dosa is my favourite breakfast. The more you progress with it, the more you fall in love with it.
You’ve got to try jeys burritos in Barrie! He takes such pride in the food he makes and he remembers everyone who comes in! Fantastic guy and amazing food
Ken, you usually dip a vada, idli or dosa in the sambar
Hey Ken should try Trinidadian food doubles and goat roti is best
you should try brazilian food
Wonderful video as always! As another 24h idea, why not try 24h eating at IKEA?
Garlic naan like dawn
Dohsa
Goolab jahmong
Indian food is very healthy. It's one of my favorites.
Hey Ken, the dip you wanted to know about at 13:10 is coconut chutney. Interesting fact about the gulab jamun is, the word "gulab" is derived from the Persian words gol (flower) and āb (water), referring to the rose water-scented syrup. "Jamun" or "jaman" is the Hindi/Urdu word for Syzygium jambolanum, an Indian fruit with a similar size and shape, commonly known as black plum. In Indian sub continent however, people specifically refer to the rose flower as gulab.
I'm really glad to see you try south Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine. I grew up in Bombay, but my grandparents were originally form the south. The good thing about Bombay is that you can find cuisine's from all over the Indian sub continent. Food from different regions in the Indian sub continent have their own different characteristics, generally the further south you go, the food gets a lot hotter (they love their green chilies) and they use coconut a lot due to its abundance in that region, whether its coconut milk in curries or desiccated coconut in sweets. As you go North the food gets a lot richer and fattier with the use of milk, cream and oil, probably due to the colder climate.
I love Dosas, but it is really hard to find a dosa I really like because everyone has their own way of making it.. I like mine crisp with a very slight hint of sweetness and saltiness to the batter. For the sambhar, I like mine made the Maharastrian (from Maharashtra, a province in India) way, which is spicy, tangy and sweet. Finding that kind in Canada is almost impossible but I'm hopeful that I will some day.
Loved your video, looking forward to your other videos trying indian food!!!
Glad you enjoyed your Indian cuisine, you should have it more often.
Over $60 that's expensiveeeee
Thanks for the video
FYI, Ayran is a Turkish drink.
Ken good choices, just had homemade curry tonight. Yummy. Good video.
What you had in sambar was not potato but probably pumpkin. It's used in sambar along with tomatoes, onions, curry leaves and various other spices and tamarind as well.
Hi Ken, great video. Would like to see you try more Indian foods.😀
How was the next day Ken ?
Ken, Brother..you need to dip the nan in the curry. Also you're making me hungry
TRY " KOTHTHU " sri lankan cusine
Poor carol 😅😅😅😅😅 better get a lot of air freshener after having that gees man I wouldn’t want to be around for the aftermath of that lol
😅
rip dwayne haskins ❤
Hey everybody iam new to indian cuisine what should i start with?
Tandoori chicken. Chicken tikka. Yum.
Looking good!!! The drink you had, ayran, is originated in Turkey and made of yogurt, salt and water. Quite refreshing. I just love curry!!! Wish I could smell it🥰
Yea I never knew Indians drink it
And put some dried mint in it too . You have from an Afghan
@@Votol78 it's a staple in India and we call it chaas.
I am Indian this is coconut chutney which you are eating with dosa
I bet hes now regretting getting indian...did he just say he's starting with his Nan hehe
Try go ask next time what the chef recommends or order what the last person ordered.
Learn new things with Ken!
Ur eating it wong
Kudos for acknowledging that food from India/Sri Lanka is also from the Asian (Most folks forget this basic geography) continent ..... I hope you get to explore and enjoy the infinite flavors of India 👍 I'm looking forward to your future videos! 😀
Coconut and tomato chutney
Thanks Mr. Ken for Making another video of our food and we're glad you liked it! Lots of Love and Support from India! 😄🙏🏻❤️
I cant think of anything better to do with my time than watch Ken eat spicy food
Have you tried the Yak testicles? They call them Mongolian Mountain Oysters. Tastes like Chicken. Better off with the chicken.
you should try idli sambar, but the sambhar has to be fresh .it is also an south indiann delicacy.
Dude my mom makes gulab jamun at home. My favourite sweet
7:48 wow! Glad to hear that! 😀😃😄❤️
Awesome video Ken!
Oh man. I’m getting diarrhea just watching this
And it's Lassi - pronounced like the LU in Lucky! Not like the famous dog on tv 😂
Oh yes adding to my previous comment the drink Aryan is from Turkey and unfortunately not Indian I wish the owner treated you to a lassi instead I think you would’ve enjoyed that way more as it’s sweet
The food they look especially good but I must say it's really expensive.
Wow . I'm a Sri Lankan and have been watching your videos since last year. Thank you so much for trying our cuisine, but most of these food are Indian. Try some chicken kottu and hoppers for Sri Lankan cuisine.❤️🇱🇰
That light color sauce should be the coconut chutney. Goes great with dosa. I like sambar with dosa too. (I pronounce sambar not like sam but like how psalm is pronounced) Awesome video, Ken. I love Indian food.
Amazing vid ken! Love seeing you try new foods
still waiting for the camper van. and you going out in it.
It looked good.
