Cool. Flower buds on the Tillandsia plants. Great addition to the setting. I wonder what color they will have on the flower. Nice touch. Conor had a good idea on this.
Ming Aralia has the odds against it as a Bonsai with its vertical growth but who can defy such things better than Nigel !! 😄 The landscape it really good and I think it will work well in future too.
Vertical growth confounds me in Bonsai. I’m constantly cutting back the vertical growth on my Jacaranda forest. At its worst, it’s annoying. At best, it gives me more to do! Great video Nigel. I love the penjing.
Hello Nigel Could you make a video on how you sharpen your tools. Especially the Knuckle cutters. I see that yours is very sharp and I have some that is not.
I think I'm not the biggest fan of that vertical trunk, as it is pretty straight and has some inverse taper, too, so I would've taken out that one and left the smaller trunk to the right. It would've hidden the scar as well. It looks cleaner than before though and it's a cool planting nevertheless!
Can't speak for Nigel, some people avoid it for concern of what the rooting hormone does to fish if it gets into the waterways. TBF some plants really don't need it. Some are very easy to root
Nigel has more cuttings than he knows what to do with! In good conditions, there is a pretty good success rate for cuttings, and he has said that he already has too many plants, so there's no reason for him to try and change the odds.
I like the patina on the marble pot, I'm actually hoping it slowly gets older and more used looking over the years!! They are very porous, so it would be difficult to keep it new looking!
Is your Ming still alive? 95% of the time when you hack away at the woody part of a Ming it will die as they dont scab over like a normal tree will. Even with using a wound sealer, they still will die and I noticed your cut away at the trunk at a really low spot on the plant. Cutting off green branches is safe and heck you can remove 100% of the green branches and the Ming will be perfectly fine and you dont even need to seal those cuts, cutting the woody section is is almost guaranteed death.
Outside warking pirates natural wow design ideas see pot relying love natural 🤤😚👍

Gets better every prune! I love the ming. I'm going to have to repot mine soon as I can't keep it watered enough!
It is great to see how this one is doing. I really enjoyed watching you when you first created this.
every subscriber knows that you always end up with a stump after all that detailed branch picking at the beginning 😄
Sometimes, but not always!
It looks Very good😻

Worse then vertical growth... Vertical growth with all the green at the tips and nowhere else! Especially on taller plants, makes the plant look weak
Hello Nigel

You also have a nice small cutting I see that might make a nice mini if it roots. Just a thought on that.

Once again good decisions ... i have a question Nigel, i notice you never use rooting hormone on your cuttings is there a reason for this please ?

I'm looking for some pruners like the ones you use to "nibble" away with, do you know what they are called? 🙂

What do you think about Vietnamese bonsai trees
Is it difficult to keep that marble tray clean?

The tree is doing really well so far, It will need pruning soon, so I'll check out the chop marks in a future show!!!! Thanks!!
