    Nigel, you never cease to amaze me with your creativity and skills. Such an extraordinary penjing! You're always thinking outside of the box (pot?)!! And the mini table & chairs with the pinky-sized jade is so fun!!
    Thanks as always for sharing. 😊

    We love you Nigel! I now have some wonderful alberta spruce because of you, You reminded me just how much I need to give love, and how much passion I have to care for something. I'm single and Ive been pretty a lone just trying to be my best self, and something as simple as the art of Bonsai, has really opened me up. I love your take on Bonsai and though I'm only a few months in, I regard you as 1 of the most important people for Bonsai. Thats a very deep line, do not take it at face value

    Hey Nigel get a bunch of tires from toys that are in scale, then age them, stack them,put one one roof of the vw, you're also missing bullet holes

    Very good Nigel. Did you ever see Aussie Bonsai Bloke's penjing with the dunny (outside toilet) and a tyre swing on the tree? Much the same altbonsai spirit. Congratulations!

    Amazing! I am a classic VW beetle lover and absolutely love the display you made. The square pot is really unique and beautiful. You did a wonderful job aging the beetle too!

  • @bema19
    @bema19 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Nigel, accent plant isn't ivy. It's ficus quercifolia or ficus thumbergi

  • @andrewbender8879
    @andrewbender8879 ปีที่แล้ว

    In my many visits to junk yards I often see hoods open with weeds growing up through the engine compartment. It might look nice and less distracting if you planted some miniature ivey under the driver's side wheel well growing up onto the engine compartment. It wouldn't take but a few strands to get the desired affect and it would be corralled enough to maintain fairly easily. Just a thought.

  • @astounded
    @astounded ปีที่แล้ว

    The square pot for the ivy/ficus (whatever it is) shitakusa is absolutely perfect for the penjing. Not only do the colors echo the bug- it looked like the glaze is pitted and bubbled. Serendipity!

    The patina you made on the beetle looks great. I got the c4 corvette zr-1 in the mail. But I have thought much on what you said . Make patina on it and its a fiberglass car. Hmm i am not sure what to do to make patina. And ebay seller had wrote wrong scale on it. So it was not as big as I thought. Maybe go for other car😢

  • @patrickstonecrusher

    If you're looking to intentionally plant weeds, l'd like to suggest lambsquarters aka white goosefoot. Seedlings look like miniature adults and are fairly easy to uproot. Seeds should be fairly easy to come by this time of year. I even think they could handle bonsai treatment fairly well.

  • @gartengeflugel924
    @gartengeflugel924 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nigel, I think that miniature ivy might be an oak-leaf creeping fig, which would not survive outside with the coniferous trees you planted in this penjing.

  • @LemonsGraphics
    @LemonsGraphics ปีที่แล้ว

    For the accent plant it would be really cool if you just put a rock and then have an old rusty wheel leaning up against it sourounded by moss or something like that

  • @dk2614
    @dk2614 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm almost 100% certain your miniature ivy is actually Ficus pumilla 'Quercifolia'. That also meaning that it wouldn't be cold hardy. Ficus pumilla can be found as far North as Southern Georgia USA. The English Ivy you may be thinking of is Hetera helix. If you pluck a leaf or stem off from that plant and it bleeds latex you've got F. pumilla.

    • @BlueJayBonsai
      @BlueJayBonsai ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct! This is a mini oakleaf creeping fig - Ficus pumilla Quercifolia! Good eye!

    What do you think of the ivy growing through the windows of the VW? Like the wild morning glory vines. Just a thought.

    My dog caught a baby squirrel yesterday, and took it under the bed like a squeak toy.
    I had to put the Lil fella on the roof so she didn't get him again.

  • @Rblock777
    @Rblock777 ปีที่แล้ว

    U should bend that roof in a little to create a pot like bending for things to grow inside there naturally

  • @Liisa3139
    @Liisa3139 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was hoping a small climbing plant growing in and out of the car. A little piece of the accent ficus would do.

  • @dk2614
    @dk2614 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry I missed this! Can I make a suggestion to plant a tree coming up through the engine bay. You can't have an abandoned car in the forest without at least one tree growing through it! I think it would add a bit of wonder to the planting when the tree starts to grow around the bumper or engine bay lid.

  • @FrostBiteBonsai
    @FrostBiteBonsai ปีที่แล้ว

    Is that the gate from your ponytail palm? That planting is amazing! It looks like it's aged and I know it's new!

    @peacecosmonaut176 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fantastic planting. Really cool and different. Amazing how the beetle turned out.
    I still think the tire under the vehicle looks kind of strange. How would it have ended up there? Someone must have lifted the car and placed it there. Not realistic in my opinion.

    Looks amazing Nigel - love the accessory plant in the 'rusty' pot! As mentioned by @dk2614 that is actually a type of ficus and not an ivy! (Christmas 2022 gift)
