Japanese Players Will Parry Everything in Street Fighter 6

  • In the past, the Japanese and Asian scenes have been far ahead of the rest of the world in terms of controller optimization. This is what sparked the whole hitbox = "cheatbox" debate last year. With the upcoming release of Street Fighter 6, they are once again ahead of the game with leverless controllers. Because of how important drive impact and parry are going to be, the physical location of the buttons on your controller could mean everything. Nephew explains all of this in detail and a possible workaround in this video.
    Street Fighter 6, the next game in the iconic series, will release in 2023! Take part in the Fighting Ground, which focuses on the classic fighting game experience with modes from previous games in the series. Two new modes will be available alongside: World Tour, an immersive single-player story experience, and Battle Hub, which will further expand the scope of player communication and engagement. Your Moment. Your Fight.

    Another thing you can try is instead of having the parry and drive impact as the right-most two buttons (L1 and L2), set them as the left-most 2 non -direction buttons (square and X).
    Slide the rest of the buttons to the right, and now you can just play normally but with quicker pointer finger access to parry and DI

    Even back when i played arcade, I always hated having to slide my hand to hit the 3rd or 4th row (depending on the board) or use my pinky.

    • @kevingallego48
      @kevingallego48 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CutShadows honestly, I’ve been switching back and forth between ps5 and battlebeaver, came to the conclusion that mouse click dpad isn’t 100% accurate sometimes the input will drag or you’ll forget to take your finger off and it’ll click twice and give the wrong input. After finally breaking in my ps5 controller (building the callus on my finger) I think it’s the perfect pad for fighting games. Sf6 seems to have been made with pad in mind, having a single button for drive impact and parry are ideal. I switched L1 and L2 so I party with L1 and L2 is drive impact. If you’re still keen on split dpad, don’t go for mouse click, split buttons are great, but the clicky buttons are much better for triggers or your other buttons. I use the split dpad especially when playing charge characters. Hope this helped 👌🏻

    Okay this video made me realize that I hold my fight stick weird because I always have my pinky over both parry AND drive impact... Does anyone else hold their stick like this?
    So with the button setup of
    1 2 3 4
    5 6 7 8
    I press buttons 1, 2, and 3 with my index, middle, and ring fingers.
    I press 5, 6, and 7 with my thumb (reaching under my palm like I'm doing crossovers on a piano).
    I press 4 with my pinkie, and I press 8 with the heel of my palm. Kind of like, the meat underneath my lowest pinkie joint.
    People have said I have really fast parries playing the SF6 demo, and I never considered that most people are moving their hands to access the lower row of buttons. I just play like this naturally and never realized it was odd.
    You can totally access this tech without any special equipment or button mapping. You just have to be a little weirdo.

  • @Midori_Hoshi
    @Midori_Hoshi ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All of those changes to the button box layout are nice for offline tournaments, but for the game itself, pad is best. In particular, the Flydigi Apex 2 with smart use of reWASD PC software is the way to go. You can disable the up and down d-pad buttons and do them from some of the back buttons instead, giving yourself most of the button box advantages such as precise diagonals, motion input shortcuts, and up + down = up SOCD cleaning. And since it's a pad with a ton of buttons, you can fit all 13 buttons for Modern controls without having to do any combination inputs (6 face buttons, 1 Menu / Start button, and 6 shoulder buttons). You also have two sticks which are useful for the 3D areas. You can do stuff like put L3 run on the edge of the left stick, so you can easily run in 3D areas. Push the stick a small or medium amount to walk or jog.
    You can use reWASD's shift feature to easily and quickly use all 15 or so of the training mode shortcuts. You hold one button down, and it will change the function of 15 buttons, making it possible.
    There will be times when you need to switch to Classic to test something, but you can configure reWASD to swap to your Classic profile easily, along with re-enabling the full d-pad if you want it. The Apex 2 + reWASD combo is so good that the idea of playing on PS5 without it is revolting.

      I was originally planning to use two buttons for parry/DI, but this video kind of convinced me otherwise. Given how strict the timing is for perfect parries, you're making it even harder by adding the "requirement" of pushing both buttons on the correct frame. That is to say: even if there is some input leniency on parry input and you don't have to push both buttons on the exact same frame to get a parry command, if you push MP on the latter frame of the perfect parry 2-frame window but the MK is a frame later, you would get a normal parry... instead of the perfect parry that you would have gotten with a 1-button parry command.

    Capcom should DEFINITELY not ban custom layouts. I think "number of assignable buttons must equal PS5 controller" is good. Cause I definitely assign commands to R3 in a lot of games as a pad player lol.

    At high level D-Impact will be negligible but D-Rush & D-Parry will be the bread and butter.

    Capcom: Let's introduce modern control so people with less buttons like pads can enjoy the game.
    Pro Gamers: I'm gonna add more buttons to my controller.

    Hey Nephew. Thanks for the videos! Where can I get a hitbox like yours? I think you should do a video on it and why you like it over the other hit boxes out there.

    As soon as I saw how often you would need to DI and parry I knew people would start macroing their buttons and drilling holes/changing button layouts on their sticks lol. I know Tokido was experimenting with this in SF5 with I believe Boxer with the TAP button, but I think the last time you REALLY saw this level of macroing was SF4 when people would macro the select button to get select button plinks for 1f links with LP, this was especially crucial for characters like Ibuki where to get those jab tsurugi loops you would need to do very tight 1f links with stand jab. I think there was that marvel 3 player who played C Viper that had his stick banned for macroing multiple directions to a button to get perfect tiger knees. Funny enough he could use a Crossup now and get similar results.
    I'm still going to be doing the plain old method of pressing 2 buttons because I'm a stubborn old man, until I feel it's absolutely necessary to change. My hands are hovering over all 6 buttons all the time and I constantly shift my hands around where generally I get button combinations quickly.

    Are keyboards banned because they have more buttons, or is it only how many buttons you bind?

  • @Mandydeth
    @Mandydeth ปีที่แล้ว

    Ironically I've been using the same layout, but I started doing it in Soul Calibur V (which does allow the same button to be bound to different buttons). It was much easier sliding my thumb up then across for Siegfried's iAGA. You can easily just drill a new hole through your top plate to do so, that's what I did years ago.

    I'd say anyone thinking they're going to need all those buttons is behind the times, since having access to 1-button, frame-1 specials and supers means playing Classic is like needlessly hamstringing yourself.
