One thing you missed... go try parking both in a parking garage and see which one you buy. Too many people buy a HUGE SUV without realizing they can be quite challenging to manage as a driver. In contrast and minivan is one of the easiest vehicles to manage.
Yes! I downsized from a Tahoe to a Traverse and it's much easier to park! Also we live in a rural area with one lane roads and so much easier to pass other vehicles. We have had to replace drivers side mirrors on 2 vehicles because of farmers huge ones hitting ours. No problem now with the lower and smaller Traverse mirrors.
I have always wanted the answer to be SUV but vans are so much easier. If it isnt moving the family around, I can easily take all the seats oit/fold down and fit 15 sheets of 8x4 plywood in it

I've lived in snowier places than most, and most people get along just fine with a 2wd car. A minivan with snow tires is better in snow than an SUV on all seasons anyway... The type of vehicle doesn't really matter compared to tires and driver experience. And some minivans are awd
Carnival. It's really useful for a lot of side businesses as it can double as a small work van when you take out the seats. Some contractors are getting it for this reason

The is Kia was wonderful and interior design excellent and above the competition but I am not sure about reliability.. The Kia carnival potentially has a defect in its cyclinder design… It’s burn coolant…
My kids grew up riding our 2007 Odyssey and its still going strong more appropriate for a family. Never understood why "soccer Mom's" were embarrassed to be seen as soccer Mom's.
After dealers markup and interest rates and taxes and fees your going be paying 15-20k extra which offsets any fuel efficiency in the current market over the life of loan for the Sienna… Honda and Kia wins…

You got to sell it by your self…Battery replacement cost comes in after 150k which could be 2500-5000k which again offset fuel savings .. It all offsets For eg: Grand Highlander limited hybrid total cost with current market interest rates, dealer marks up and other fees is 70k+ for a limited hybrid that cost 55k over the financing period… The fuel savings is red and not worth it vs a regular v6 when the cost to acquire is so high…
I’m driving my second Yukon xl. The first I sold when I reached 260,000 plus miles. I’m a nurse and have to get to work in icy/ snow conditions. The 4 wheel drive handles great even on the hills I have to drive on
I had a 2013 Town and County 5 or 6 yrs ago. Traded for a Tahoe. The 3rd row with a bench was awful for my teens. The Traverse I just got feels so much like that minivan on the inside that I have went for the door handle on the left side so many times 😂 it has almost just as much room as that van and so easy to clean up with the leather seats and Weather Tech mats 🙌 enjoying the better gas mileage too 18(Tahoe) Vs 23(Traverse). Also impressed with the AWD! Had to drive uphill on a muddy/grassy graveyard road this morning and it done great! Looking frd to seeing how it handles snow this winter.

Went through the same journey when our second child came this year. The car we NEEDED was a minivan, but we bought the car we WANTED with the 2023 Yukon XL AT4. It looks great and we love it! The comfort of the extra large interior space for the family to relax while on the road, the trunk space for the double stroller and backup supplies and the peace of mind of the 4WD in our climate. Of course, it comes down to price and what one can afford without stressing the budget. I acknowledge we are blessed and fortunate to have the opportunity to choose. If it wasn’t the Yukon, then it would have been the AWD Pacifica! Highly recommend if you go the van route!
Had a mini van (Kia carnival). Got the new Honda Pilot… Best suv ever… All the space and features and built like a tank… Honda Pilot Touring is the way to go… Looks like a Range Rover but reliable… The new boxy aggressive looks and full size adult 3rd row is a big win!! I am big 6’0 225 and I fit comfortably in the 3rd row !!
We went from a 2018 Traverse to a 21 Sienna...and I'm missing the trunk space SO MUCH. I really thought I was trading up for sliding doors and more kid-friendly/family options...but there isn't much difference that benefits us other than the sliding doors. The seats don't come out, we have car seats in the captains chairs, so we can't take advantage of their ability to fold for more cabin space.. Now I'm back in the market for an SUV. 😅
Good feedback. But what about the car being hybrid? If you put down the car seats the traverse still has a bigger trunk space? I'm surprised! Reliability also should count for something right, Toyota sienna should have less wear and tear over the course of it's life right?
@@publicius7024 It may not be in cubic feet technically (I haven't looked to see what the Sienna is stated as having) but for sure the configuration like she stated is vertical space vs flat space. It just doesn't work out to be as beneficial if it's vertical trunk space. After living with it for 2 years I'm so surprised about that because somehow I seriously thought I would have more space in the van vs the traverse.
@@gzhen123 So the Sienna being a hybrid is actually one point I forgot to mention and it IS a huge factor that would hurt to go away from. 35mpg is really nice! We have 4 kids, so it isn't often we would put the back seats down to compare cargo space between the two. I don't honestly know if we ever did when we had the traverse. I would assume it's pretty similar. From what I can tell, the traverse was a bit tighter between the seating rows than the sienna, but it's because it has more trunk space and vice versa.

With no doubts Minivans are the ultimate people haul, even more ultimate if you have little ones. But their performance is where they lose their appeal to SUVs (in my opinion). If you have to worry about Terrain and weather than SUVs makes more sense. I own a minivan and also live where occasionally snows, so far even with some tricky weather my van did fine and isn’t awd. To this moment, considering our stage of life with 2 little ones minivan has been pretty cool. Can’t say how many times the sliding doors were life saving hahah. Or Having in laws and my parents visiting at same time and being able to take everyone in the same car to go out is pretty fun! 6 adults and 2 kids (in car seats) with a double stroller in the back and rooms for more junk! Hahah can’t beat that 😂
You shouldn't have a problem driving a van anywhere in the USA. The only problem would be off-road. 99.9% of people do not need to ever go off-road. Also, SUVs aren't that great at handling snow, either. Barely better than a minivan
As a car enthusiast, I would pick the minivan over the SUV. If I’m not towing something, I don’t need the SUV. I have a kid so a van is still better even if the SUV is better in snow. Yes it snows where I live and sometimes it’s a few feet at a time. I just like the sliding doors and lower load floor.

SUV. Because I need it to tow a boat, and we drive in the mountains and last year I almost got my family stuck in the snow in a small fwd SUV. It would have been bad if I wasn't able to get out, we were far from people. My family loves the outdoors and mountains. Minivan just can't do it. Honda Pilot Trail trim :)
I got a minivan. I took out the middle row seats and the back row folds into the floor. A full size air mattress fits perfectly in the back and laying down on it now! You can't do that in most suvs.
Yukon is not comparable since theprice is so far out of reach, most people shopping for minivan or SUVs around 30-50k budget would most likely look at Honda pilot, Toyota Highlander, Traverse, ford explorer, or other 3 row SUVs in that price range
I have 3 greyhounds and have a Forester. The older one has trouble jumping into the back. Previously had a Town & Country which had Sto&Go & a much lower floor. Reliability was terrible. I was in Detroit with the T & C during a blizzard & had no trouble in the van while I saw 4wd vehicles overturned & sliding all over the place. I didn't even get wheelspin!
Minivans all day. I drive in the snow with my two wheel low clearance but for severe weather we take my husbands all wheel suv. It boggles the mind when people say minivans are so much uglier than suvs (none luxury). None of them are beautiful. Our Porsche 911..stunning!
As a married man with 3 young kids, I started with an SUV, then went to a minivan. I will not be going back to an SUV, at least until my kids are much older.
@@99SigP same here, although I rented both a minivan (Chrysler town and country, dodge grand caravan) and an SUV (2017 ford expedition). The suv has travel comfort for long distances as a rental car, BUT AWFUL gas mileage on city driving,, so bad nearly $85 per gas fill up. So in the end after trying both types, I bought the minivan (14 Chrysler town and country).
I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT and I love it for the space for my three children. However, I will say if you're going with a minivan you should go for one with tv's, power lift gate, auto sliding doors, and a good dash entertainment system. My van has none of those unfortunately.
The Yukon can be fuel efficient if you get the 3.0 Duramax. Its the best SUV engine by far with great fuel efficiency, smoothness, and lots of torque for towing. Plus it doesn’t have the V8 lifter problems like the 5.3 & 6.2.
Having a large diesel engine for short drives around town does not take advantage of diesel’s stronghold: efficient long distance cruising. Also diesel needs time to warm up to operating temperature in cold, and will have higher service costs than gas engine. Right now price of diesel fuel is also higher than regular gas, which makes it harder to break even on the initial extra cost of diesel.
What vehicle would you all recommend for having 5 kids ages 7, 6, 4, 19 months, and a newborn? We’d need 2 infant car seats and 3 boosters to fit inside the vehicle. Thanks!
We are looking at the Expedition Max so we can fit two dogs and a stroller in the back. The price difference has me questioning if it’s worth it every day.
This is a ridiculous comparison. The Yukon is a small school bus. Seriously, schools use them as small school buses. You need a palisade vs carnival. That is a really cost and class comparison.

I just drove a minivan about two weeks ago. I am getting a minivan.. still deciding Odyssey, Sienna, or carnival... Sienna can't take the second row seats out easily which is fucking dumb design toyota. Be better, be smarter. Also why the fuck is buying a spare tire even a thing? Honda odyssey.... so far everything looks good but the interior is outdated... do better honda Then the kia Carnival 2025 is sexy inside and out, new tech and all but the question is will it catch on fire and kill me and my family? And all these manufacturers and more dodge is another one, everyone can't seem to build a vehicle correctly right now. Wtf. Toyota lying about safety issues, i mean come on. We bought a Carnival this year and sold our expedition max. Just cant beat KIA's warranty. We have four kiddos and the van works great

Pacifica has the worst reliability ratings in its class. It has been marked as the worst mini van of 2023, it has a lot of issues and recalls.

The utility aspects of minivans wins my heart any day. And they're pretty comfortable too. I don't care for luxury and looks.

@@99SigP same here, although I rented both a minivan (Chrysler town and country, dodge grand caravan) and an SUV (2017 ford expedition). The suv has travel comfort for long distances as a rental car, BUT AWFUL gas mileage on city driving,, so bad nearly $85 per gas fill up. So in the end after trying both types, I bought the minivan (14 Chrysler town and country).
Get the van. A solid third of the U.S. population lives in places where garages and parking spots don't have space for anything longer than 17'.

I can’t decide ! I owned a 2008 town & county and loved it but
I have a 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT and I love it for the space for my three children. However, I will say if you're going with a minivan you should go for one with tv's, power lift gate, auto sliding doors, and a good dash entertainment system. My van has none of those unfortunately.

The Yukon can be fuel efficient if you get the 3.0 Duramax. Its the best SUV engine by far with great fuel efficiency, smoothness, and lots of torque for towing. Plus it doesn’t have the V8 lifter problems like the 5.3 & 6.2.
Having a large diesel engine for short drives around town does not take advantage of diesel’s stronghold: efficient long distance cruising. Also diesel needs time to warm up to operating temperature in cold, and will have higher service costs than gas engine. Right now price of diesel fuel is also higher than regular gas, which makes it harder to break even on the initial extra cost of diesel.

The 3.0 Duramax in the Suburban & Yukon is a much better choice. Better fuel efficiency than the Ecoboost and much more reliable & smoother.

This is a ridiculous comparison. The Yukon is a small school bus. Seriously, schools use them as small school buses. You need a palisade vs carnival. That is a really cost and class comparison.

Mini van make sense if you need that massive amount of space all the time… Current SUV’s have excellent space and don’t look like a hump back whale and have good ground clearance…
