Steam Engines are the most powerful way to generate stress units in Create Mod! A lot of plays find themselves confused by them though so in this guide video I go over a tutorial on how to build them as well as how they work, how to read their boiler status, all the juicy numbers information you need, and even some addons that will help you out!

imagine wanting to making money 🤮
Imagine how the world would look today if the industrial revolution happened during the height of the Roman empire. It only took a 120ish years to go from an agrarian society to a space-faring society. Where would we be after a couple thousand?
Wouldn't that have been insane, in fact I read that in the 1500s a spaniard pitched the idea of a steam boat to the monarchy but was denied! Could you imagine if steam powered boats had been invented over 200 years early?
The reason it didn't catch on was that it wasn't worth investing the resources into it at the time when you could just have slaves do the same job. When it was invented again, it was during a time where we started to realize that slavery really wasn't such a good idea any more.
@@ZordlistairOh it's not that it wasn't a good idea, it was actually very good at first. But then they realized that with the increase in prices, having to buy slaves, feed them, maintain them and give them shelter was no longer worthwhile. Of course, the mentality was also changing and human ethics was making itself felt. And so slavery was abandoned, or rather revolutionized, moving on to feudalism, and for the same reason reaching where we are today (mostly) democracy.
@@Zordlistair Economically, slaves were still a good idea, at least when it came to purchase price. They didn't need to be paid, they would prevent crashes between vessels (they don't want to drown, after all), and the price to feed and house them would be roughly comparable to the coal needed for the steam generation. The difference wasn't that slavery wasn't a good idea, it was that slavery was starting to be seen as immoral (and rightly so). Morals don't decide if something is a good idea or not, they just decide if it's acceptable or not. I think almost everybody can agree slavery is not acceptable, at least.
@@KuraiLunae Slaves were definitely not a good idea for the Romans economically. When slave labour started to expand after the punic wars, a TON of economic problems started to arise. Just to name the biggest one, wealthy landowners would buy up everything and make slaves work on their estates, this made them extremely rich and displaced every peasant and made them find another way to live. Most of these people moved to the cities to try to find work(as all farm work was clogged up with slaves) and this put huge pressure on the central government to provide them with free or heavily discounted grain or, well, they would riot. There simply wasn't enough work to do in the cities for everyone
It drastically increased social inequality and put a big strain on the central government economically. The roman tax system regarding the nobles was also questionable and made this worse. Basically, you could choose to pay taxes later, and what this meant is that whenever a new governor came, he would try to make friends with all the elites in province by forgiving their tax debt. This problem was by far the biggest in Gaul and heavily increased the tax burden on the common person, as the rich were mostly not paying their share.
This is of course mostly an issue of tax forgiving but if slaves didn't exist, this wouldn't be such a big problem because the rich wouldn't have so much influence and the common person could afford to pay their taxes.
In general, slavery made ONLY the elites rich. The fraction of taxes they paid that was gotten from slavery was immediately distributed back to the people that were displaced by slaves.
I am confident in saying that if the Romans didn't have slaves, their economy would have been significantly more robust. It's much easier to tax the common people than the elites. Slavery is often cited as one of the factors that lead to it's downfall
Newcomen steam engines were actually fairly commonplace for draining mines of water to allow crews to reach deeper ore deposits, They were so critical that if they had not been invented the industrial revolution may have never even begun.
Woah thanks for sharing that’s so cool!
finally! i love steam engines so much, but i often forget specific breakpoints (resources for a level 9 specifically), this is gonna help a lot!
Yeah I really tried to get granular without being overwhelming on this one
Immediately made this, and it dwarfed all the SU sources my server has ever had combined. Thanks for the inspiration!
Actually relevant sponsorship jumpscare
Boo!
12:47 You absolutely can have it place directly onto the depot that fills the bucket with lava. I always do that with my steam engines. The trick is to use 2 buckets, choose the blaze burners for depositing to before you select the depot under the spout, and set the mechanical arm to "prefer first".
The second bucket prevents the depot under the spout from being empty unless the mechanical arm has already picked up the bucket from the lower depot. Since the top depot will already have something, the mechanical arm won't pick the bucket up from the lower depot unless there's a blaze burner to fuel, and prefer first ensures the mechanical arm will prioritize the blaze burner, preventing it from picking up the bucket from the lower depot, the bucket from the upper depot moving to the lower depot, then the arm seeing the upper depot is empty and putting its bucket back on the upper depot.
The end result is the arm will only pick up a lava bucket to fuel a blaze burner, then afterwards placing the empty bucket on the upper depot. On top of that, instead of spending brass and an electron tube on a second depot, you instead spend 3 iron, saving the more valuable brass.
thx man for saving my machine
Good that addons exist that make lvl 18 steam engine super easy to make. I LOVE CRAFTS AND ADDITIONS the straw is just op
Good job going back and tying up loose ends man. That was very clear and concise.
I started watching your channel recently and I absolutely enjoy every single one of your videos!
This is perfect timing was going through your old videos on this since I can finally place create and this came out today as I’m about to try
Awesome!
@@dejojotheawsome Awsome*
@@dejojotheawsome since you replied I’ve got one more question for a non creative steam engine build should I just try to use gear ups to power the steam engine or would something else be easier
Great video. I just finished upgrading my create mod stuff to 1.19.2 with the most recent create release after playing in 1.18.2 for several months, just so I can use the Enchantment Add On. I'll have to make these changes to my steam engines so they can run better.
love using the lava, i used a pointed dripstone farm for a while, to fill up my own main lava source, while also making manual trips back and forth, because i decided i was going to look into trains after my lava farm was setup.
but anyways i now have a nice big old infinite lava pool with 2 extractors using lava.
running 5 level 9 generators and that, is quite overkill for a while
Definitely the new go to guide for Create mod steam engines and I loved the facts at the end!
I'm full of steam engine facts like did you know Leonardo da Vinci actually drew up plans for a steam powered cannon that would be able to fire projectiles that weighed 110lbs or 50kg! And that many of his principles were used to invent the first commercial steam engine in 1712 despite the fact that his description of his cannon was found 100 years later! It's possible the cannon may have worked if it had been attempted pontially revolutionizing combat and starting an early industrial revolution
@@dejojotheawsome teach me more!!!
i really enjoyed the steam engine facts, thanks
Another day another helpful video from Djojo, ya love to see it. Thanks again homi ❤
4:25 also you can place lava under the boiler tank which will produce passive status as well.
Just about to set one up for some atm stuff so epic timing
Awesome! I hope it helps :D
Oh wow, I was just watching your playlist of create mods and you posted this video! Haha, will make sure to watch, keep it up! Also, is there a tutorial about trains coming anytime soon?
Maaaaaybe ;)
This is a really comprehensive guide, really well put together as well! Never knew that you could just, light empty blaze burners, but you learn something new every day I suppose lol
Yeah you can even make them blue if you click them with soul sand!
@@dejojotheawsome Decorative ability increased lol, thanks!
11:55 - If you place the brass funnel directly on top of the first depot, aimed towards the depot and with an empty bucket filter, it should work and you won't need the second depot and funnel.
Edit: I add a fluid container for the lava and let that fill a bit before starting it. I think the bucket always being filled right away plays into not needing a second depot.
side note: the blaze burner with straw also accepts flammable liquids from other mods such as immersive engineering ethanol, seed oil, and biodiesel
AND u can make immersive seed oil in basins by pressing them AND immersive biodiesel actually superheats them and if u want u can drain the ie jerrycans with fluid drains
You can make a tutorial building the perfect house or base for the start and late stages in create mod? I want tutorial
Very informational video, now i know to get garnished
Garnished is great!
Another fun thing about Create: New Age is that the reactor isn't even necessary. You can have heat pipes above lava pools and use heat pumps to transfer heat over to the boiler heaters. Infinite idle power at the cost of real estate. (It gets pretty space-hungry for all the pools but that's a small price to pay for some light cheesing lol)
That’s funny your sponsor is actually my school. And I’m going for computer engineering.
Hi, I have all of create, which has a mod called create teleporters, and it works with tele juice, which comes from chorus fruit, do you know any way of making an automated farm for chorus fruits or chorus flowers that automatically plant? I have all the idea but can't get the deployers to plant the chorus flower on endstone
I never thought I’d see a university sponsor ad
Newbie Creator here, steam engines always seemed for too bulky and complex for my mind to handle, but this is really helpful!
You can put funnel on top of the depot pointing in. Filter it for empty buckets only. Then tell arm to use depot as source and burner and funnel as destination. Boom, much simpler, cheaper, and more compact feeding design.
Can you exolain more on the infinate lava source. I have tge max built 3x3x8 with the water pump seprated at 256rpm and lava pump separated at 256rpm *with a 8x9 dripstone farm* but cant max the rpms on the chain drived engines. Water line is just perfect size is perfect but heat is at 50% so my engine rpms are only set to 96 (which is perfect stressed) before its over stressed. When i saw someone build this exact same engine he was at 256 both pumps separate and 128rpm on the engines and it was a perfect stress at around 256k SU. Mine onky says 119k su? I dont understand why.
Good video for beginners 👍
Thank you!
Thank you
14:50 there is also create: liquid fuel, which does straw things without straws
Something you dont actually need for the lava setup is a seperate depot. The mechanical arm doesnt need to be particularly fast since theyre "smart" and, if slow enough, will take long enough to pick up the full bucket after the spout happens.
okay but how would you power for example a mechanical arm with a steam engine or some big machine?
Another way you can fuel a blaze burner by lava is to create a lava tank and pump the lava from that tank into all blaze burners, this is nowhere near as space efficient as the bucket method but yeah, I am also quite new to create so if the lava bucket thing is better please do let me know :)
What if u use every stressunits that steam engine produce, wouldn't it be overstressed while mechanical arm refueling blaze burners? Because they won't be fueled for like one sec after they finished
Theres also an addon that lets you feed blaze burners with fluid via pipe
Hi! Rather new to the mod. What do you recommend powering the water with?
Steam engine is basically a crucial part of most of my machine, which is why I prefer having a factory in the middle of the sea(or on the beaches).
Thanks for the info. I had been using 64 cauldrons to make lava for a single steam engine. I can save a ton of iron by limiting it to 12.
i haven't seen this anywhere, but if you want to use lava to power your blaze burners, you can just pump from the lava source to the underside of the blaze burner, no mechanical arm needed. Of course, this doesn't lend itself to using blaze cakes later.
That is not a vanilla create feature, you must have the liquid burners addon for that
Hay can you do create dreams and desiers its one of the best if not the best create add on
3:27 Is there a way we can play that game you made?
Yeah pretty much all about steam engines, i am gonna see your arcane engineering series too after this :)_
Hey im trying to get a mechanical arm setup for the auto lava feeder but my mechanical arm wont left click on the brass funnel and highlight up yellow what can i do?? Any suggestions???
Yes same i have no idea how to get it to select it, it just places down the arm
the funnel has to be inwards, not outwards
i am trying to learn engines in create and stumbled on this video. "2h ago". Must be a sign
Glad I could help!
Now if I could just get rid of the annoying glitch that causes my lvl 4 boiler to randomly under water itself. Fixing it requires taking off one of the four steam engines that send power around my base, slap on a hand crank on the cog next to the 2nd water pump, and crank for a few seconds until it kicks itself back into high gear. Replace the steam engine and done. No idea why it randomly does that.
Good thing Create boilers don't act like real ones when they run out of water...
bro i was just about to make a steam engine what are the chances
Glad I could be in time!
You dont need a second depot and funnel, mechanical arms doesnt pick up the empty bucket
Out of curiosity are you willing to give Tech Reborn a try?
I had 4 lvl 18's in arcane engineering lol
Another easy way to get infinite fuel for blaze burners is a wood farm hooked up to a bulk smelter. Simple (yet maybe big) and reliable
it should be noted that it doesn't matter how you arrange your boilers. Nine level 1 steam engines produces the same power as one level 9. Two level 9s is the same as one level 18. You probably shouldn't bother with a level 18 as it's more expensive fuel for the same output as 2 9s.
My only issue is using a straw filled lava cauldron setup for whatever reason drains when unloaded.
I cant select the funnel for it to deposit items to. IDK im on the 1.20.1 version please advise
the funnel has to be inwards, not outwards
Im playing on deceased craft and there is no nether and so, no netherrack, at least not a lot of it.
Спасибо тебе за помощь, теперь я смогу построить их намного эффективнее и компактнее!
Does anyone have a recommendation for an automatic create quarry that puts items in a storage( that i dont have to manyally empty)?
Any contraption picks up items automatically! You can use portable storage interfaces to move items from a contraption to stationary inventories
@@dejojotheawsome So its possible to build a system that ransports items form a quarry to a storage? Btw are you planning on doing a tutorial on a quarry? because i wanted to clear a really large perimeter and maybe keep the resources :)
Is there a new age add-on tutorial?
or just hold w!!!
This is a joke great video.
Mechanical engineering is the study of how to boil water more efficiently
Ok. Now what do I use these steam engines forn
Can the boiler be sideways? (3x3x~, longer than it is tall) Because that'd be cool to make a V8 looking engine
Boilers are only vertical!
@@dejojotheawsome >:(
You might be able to do that with Create: Interactive, but don't quote me on that
@@Mate_Antal_Zoltan :o
But how do I get the lava out of the nether?
Even universities sponsor now? Damn
Ah yes the self powering steam turbine pump that will absolutely not deadlock the moment you get a slight power whoopsie
I feel like like a super-heating liquid fuel should be more magical, so the bio eþanol and peanut oil don't do it for me
you cant place the pump like that???
3days ago post comm, but video post 30 min ago
“Not survival viable” sounds like a challenge.
