Exactly what I was taught.
I recently watched a video in which Kelvinator engines on an Eric the car guys video, where they ground the bearing cap strengthening ribs down to balance it and I kinda second guessed my teachings. So glad you reaffirmed what I was taught as correct..

both, you need to have the same center of gravity for each of the rods. so the big- and small ends weigh the same seperately.
