Thank you for sharing your plant journey with us. I have always had 2-3 plants since my early 20s however in 2016 we moved out of our home state, we knew no one so my plant collection grew slightly. Then April 2020 we moved back to our home state (California). My collection tripled or maybe quadrupled during that period, I now I too have over 100 plants. I lost my mom December 2022, she loved plants. Caring for my plants now makes me feel so close to my mom. In fact last night I was thinking I need to do with my Begonia Maculata- she is straggly and the leaves are small. The Begonia was gifted to me at my mom’s funeral service. This morning I get on TH-cam and your video pops up and you’re holding your begonia maculata 🥺😭. Plants have a way of helping you through or just helping you cope with life. Again, thank you for sharing your journey. But getting back to your beautiful Begonia Maculata - what is your secret to such a lush begonia?😍 congratulations 🎉 on your 1 yr anniversary!

Thank you for being here and sharing about your story. I’m also sorry for your loss. Plants have a remarkable way of being present and supportive during difficult times. I love how plants are always there. For your Begonia Maculata, I recommend using a self-watering pot, ensuring good lighting, and propagating when the plant becomes leggy. I'm currently propagating a single leaf stem to replant in the same pot. They grow so fast for me.

Congratulations on the anniversary! 🎉 My journey into plant care started about a year and a half ago but there were always plants around me in my life. Until I was 7, we lived in my paternal grandparents’ house and they had a big garden, vegetables in the back and grape vines and mostly spring bulb flowers in the front, as well as a couple of fig trees. My grandma also had pelargoniums and some sedum varieties in outdoor pots and later acquired a peace lily and maranta as presents. They always looked so full and I never saw her do anything special to them besides watering and repotting them. My mom used to have a tiny jungle corner when we lived in our sunniest apartment but was never really good at it and has since given up the hobby. Then, when I moved for university, I lived with my then boyfriend at his mom’s place and she had plants everywhere and I would care for them while she was on holiday. Then I moved out and tried having houseplants of my own but they didn’t last long. Until fall of 2023. My son and I spent the summer with my parents in my late paternal grandparents’ house, where they now live with my maternal grandma. She likes having plants but due to health issues she can’t take care of them anymore, so I did that for her. At the end of summer she gave me a basic anthurium (flamingo flower) and that’s what I consider the start of my plant journey. It’s funny how this connects back to my very early childhood when I lived in that same house. If I have to self-analyse, I guess it was a yearning to go back to that time, when I always seemed to have dirt under my fingernails and played on a blade of grass between my thumbs (it makes a sound when you blow on it 😅). Now I dream of having a house of my own, with a garden and enough space for houseplants.
Sorry for the essay 😅 Love you and appreciate you so much for making me think about stuff like this 🫶

What a beautiful story and thank you so much for sharing it! I love how your plant journey has such deep roots in your childhood and family history. It's s so special that your grandma’s anthurium sparked this plant journey it’s like a little piece of your family’s legacy living on with you. I want to get some houseplants that remind me of my childhood. It’ll be a great way for my mom and me to share the joy together. I hope you get that house with a garden and plenty of space for all the plants your heart desires! Love you too, and I’m so glad to share in your story.

Thank you for sharing your plant life on U2 and congrats on your first year! 🎉❤. I started after I loss someone close. I’ve always had a couple of plants; but my mother was a real plant mom. I wish that I had loved them like I do now when she was here. 11:52

Thank you and thank you for being here. I am sorry for your loss. It's beautiful how plants have become a way for you to connect with that memory and love for your mother. I'm sure she would be proud of the way you've embraced that part of her legacy now.

Awwwww! Congrats on a year! That's a great accomplishment!
I also started "collecting" in 2021, but I grew up with plants in the house. And I always had a few plants in my apartments and such. But in 2021, I decided I wanted to acquire the plants I remembered from my childhood home...and that started with a dieffenbachia and an asparagus fern! Then it snowballed into my current collection of 180 (give or take).

Thanks for sharing. Do you still have those 2021 plants? I love the look of an asparagus fern. I love having stories connecting us to plants. I want to get some childhood plants as well this year. Although, I can’t grow a cashew tree in the house. 😀🤣

@mixonplantsncrafts Thanks so much. I have a minor fascination with plants too.
I managed to set up a planted fish tank, it was so much work and I got a cat so I took it down.
I keep a good amount of (cat friendly) plants around the house and work.
I'll be checking out your normal content. Thanks for checking in!
