- The IS-3 heavy tank, first shown to the world at the Berlin Victory Parade of 1945, came as a huge surprise to Western powers. Compared to the German vehicles the Allies had just fought, the new tank looked like a guest from the future, which was perceived as an alarming signal. The Cold War hadn’t started yet, but the military were wary of a potential clash with the Soviets in Western Europe, and the new tank didn’t exactly put them at ease.
At the same time, the IS-3 quickly fell out of favour in its motherland. It turned out that the design had a number of reliability problems with its engine, transmission and even frontal armour. It was hardly surprising, though, as the tank was designed in a hurry during the war. Not to mention that there was already a successor in the works - the tank that many deemed worthy of becoming the next main heavy tank of the Red Army... the IS-7.

It was ordered in 1945, it successfully underwent trials in 1946-1947, however it was cancelled in favor of the T-10

I mean, the FV4005 183 was designed to counter Russian Vehicles, including the IS-7, so nothing wrong on that matter.

I suffered in it, outside of Sim.. its nothing more than a glorified target for APFSDS.

Yeah it really doesn’t “sit” well in its BR, no stabilizer and your armor might as well be that of a light tank. I rarely play mine anymore, and I’d really hate to take the 279 out now at 8.7.

IS-7 event was super toxic, I got my IS-7 and I stopped playing for a month afterwards, I've never even spaded the thing, and now it's been so power creeped you die every match to someone who has thermals or some douchebag in a helicopter with an atgm. Just remember kids, low tier fun tier.
8.0 was amazing. Since they're rare, putting them back to 8.0 could be somewhat fine I'd say. But if they plan on doing another IS-7 event, it's not going back to 8.0. Not to mention that so many times it gets uptiered. Would rather only have 260mm of pen but at 8,0

load around 12- 15 ammo , so front ammo rack's next to driver are epty
I only load the autoloader ammo on these types of tanks
It's more practical and in the IS-7's case i wouldn't have to bother with the 40 seconds to load a 7th shell

Dude, I haven't spent single penny on that game, and I have easy life in war thunder thanks to the events and coupons from them. Currently holding Obj. 279, Matilda hedgehog, new boat from battle pass, Merkava Mk 3 and couple more vechicles in my inventory. They are all going on market. That's my source of income in game. And gaijin also profits from it.
And important thing to mention. All market stuff was once part of some event. So you could get them then instead of crying over that now.

@@tofu3317 none of the tanks you listed have APFSDS. No tank in Rank 5 has APFSDS. You’re thinking of APDS, or as I like to call it - “Angry APCR”

Doubtful. The few times the E-100 has been made available, it has been as a top prize in Tournaments.

Less insane grind? Events have become grindier and grindier. At least I tried the Space Race event and got the Sd.Kfz.234/1. Last Strategist event when I realized the insane grind I didn't even tried to continue doing it.
As someone who grinded for the is-7, i don't feel like it would be fair if they made it easier to get. Also the events have got less grindier already from my experience, getting the object 279 took me like half the time it did for the is-7.
This thing was a monster when it was in BR 8.0. It only had around 260mm of pen then, but it didn't matter. I'd say this tank was a bit abandoned when it was moved to 8.3.
I'd love this beast to be moved back to 8.0, plus nowadays I stop seeing it in battles, so perhaps moving it to 8.0 won't hurt too much since they're already a rare sight. But I'm sure a lot of people will protest it, and that it might bring back some old IS-7 players! But you still have good battles with it at 8.3 but 8.0 was just amazing.

Just a reminder to everyone the IS-7 has one of the highest repair cost of any vehicle in the game @ 1946 Lions at time of this post more than 4 times the average repair cost of other tanks at its BR.
Hi Gaijin, Could you cover the specifics on how one gets awarded a kill assist? I don't always get credit for one even though I cause damage. How much damage do I need to cause to get credit?
I think you need to do critical damage and for it to die within a certain amount of time. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
This vehicle doesn’t belong at 8.3, it should go back down to 8.0.
Plus, they're a rare sight nowadays, so it'll be fine
to even make it so it doesnt fight those it would have to be 6.0 to not face 400mm pen heat-fs

Only big issue with the IS-7 is how vulnerable it is to HEAT shells. Very good design for it's time though. It's majestic, but it's kinda obvious that they needed a different design to cut down on cost and weight.

If Germany had been allowed to continue designing military equipment (planes, ships, tanks, weapons) after the war (1946-1960) what would they look like? Considering cases such as Germany is unified and allied with USSR, or allied with the USA, or is neutral to both axes, or is divided by each of the provinces that make it up

These giant beasts were actually accepted although in lesser numbers (due to the requirements of constructing and purchasing such machine) into the new era while new MBTs were gonna be in development.

IS-7 was better armed and armored than anything US had until the latest variants of M60 in late 60s-early 70s.Let that sink in.
Now i'm saying that as someone who thinks Sherman was one of the best tanks of WW2.
This is the best tank game but it is quite complex with the setting of the keys. Another negative point is that if you want to make a place for yourself you have to pay and a lot, I have never seen a game in which you lose credit that you have already won, it's demotivating and it doesn't make you want to to progress but it's still nice enough to make fun parts. Losing credit to change crew is also a negative point, when you unlock a tank it must be final and be able to change again without using credit.
The establishment wanted a bloodier war, so had adopted less intimidating machinery.
And still, this 1948 heavy faces 1970s MBTs and 1990s Armoured Cars, which are even below its BR.
I love it but please lover the repair cost since it's not economically viable to play it with 20k SL cost

The Maus is completely different. it being a tank that was originally a researchable tech tree tank from the get-go. whereas the IS7 was a never-researchable reward tank. and the Maus was NEVER able to be sold on market.
just put this thing in the tech tree like world of tanks and make it a publicity vehicle for the game, you would make more money that way than making it only a gift vehicle

Given its firepower and mobility, this 68 ton beast deserved a fair chance, I mean, for such a heavy tank, it surely can handle battles against a lot of modern MBTs easily.

AMX 50 is a close competitor of it with its 120mm Gun which is equally deadly but it lacked APHE round and the armour is also unsetisfactory as compared to Is-7.
Basically it is not a USSSR tank if it does not have APHE Round.
