Oh yes. Dave's mods are not always the right thing. It is either hot cams, and tuning, or a well tuned exhaust. A race piston also helps. Yes the manual is wrong checking the oil. It is totally random that way. Great video!

I agree, never drill your slide. Go price one. BUT...There are better, way cheaper jetting companies out there than dynojet. They have calculators that are spot on, don't need a dyno. Use factory KEIHIN or Mikuni jets instead of the mystery dynojet jets.
I have a question in your opinion do u think engine braking is bad for 2 strokes because everybody says it is then some people say u break the rings in doing it and idk let me know love the vids that xr rips❤
No, it isnt. Another old wive's tale that people just repeat without any knowledge or common sense. If it was and caused engine damage, every weed whacker, snowmobile and outboard would have blown up the past 40 years.
Not a random guy an expert, there is Dyno proof. Proven by tens of thousands of people actually. Biased opinion that Dave's mod doesn't work. I've done both.
Don’t know why your so secretive about jet sizing. I don’t even have a 650 but it’s not a good look for you. Guess you probably have some brain damage from riding without a helmet 😅😂
Yeah about that....the 650Ls are insanely lean with the stock carb, and it's been proven on the dyno. You do the muffler, air cleaner cover and still on factory jet and claim its on the stock jet? Yeah OK bud. Dave's mod works fine, it addresses the to slow of rate in which the CV diaphragm raises the needle. I don't necessarily agree with the recommendations on jetting, I believe I ended up one under, but still richer then stock. Which every bike is different. In the end I got good power from the CV but I wanted slide response, so my bike now has the Mikuni HSR on it.
@banshee100 all I know is when people pound their chest and tout "dyno" but don't show their dyno work (easy enough, plus dyno sessions make great vids) I wonder. The inventor of the Dave's mod never touted it was an across the board for all mod, he simply gave recommendations that typically worked for most and that's why it was spread to such an extent throughout the XRL community. In the end anyone serious about performance will swap out to one of the slide carbs for obvious reasons, and usually when they are up a 1 to 2+ k they start looking for a dyno session unless they happen to be extremely good at tuning. I took a different route then just about everyone, I did the air box, gutted the stock pipe, cleaned up stock header, mikuni and lighten the flywheel down to xr600r weight. The last will do more then any carb mod or change.
The only thing that needs pounding is your head watch the other vids I did show a whole 28 min video on the dyno session ,maybe you should look before running your mouth ,maybe if your mom would of signed you slips ,your ass would pay more attention
