- I had some old fishing rods from my childhood. They were dirty, dusty, and had endured 30-40 years in the garage. I chose one that I would use. I was fairly certain that it would break but so far it has held up.

Thanks man
Nothings really changed for rods
I had a stepdad from age 5 to 9, and he was the dad all kids wish they had. Fishing, Camping, and was always involved, but things went south, and that was that. I was looking through my mother's garage a few days ago; her husband died in 2012, and I found 4.5 poles and 3 reels. A couple are old square-sided bamboo; one is identical to your dad's rod made by someone else about the same length. Anyhow, I was sitting here cleaning them up and came across your video first.
Nice video, and your dad looked like a great guy. I am assuming that is your little girl, and she is adorable. Nice Steelhead; that was a beautiful fish. Hope you hook a real whopper of a Carp soon. Honestly, I have not fished for some time and am still trying to decide what kind of tackle to buy. I will probably grab some of these and some of those, whatever looks tasty if I was a fish. Last month I bought my wife and I a couple Ronco Pocket Fishermen; remember those? I bought them to throw in our backpacks for a doomsday scenario. Best of luck to you and your family.
Thanks for sharing your story! Yes he was great. Never seen the ronco but it certainly looks pretty neat. Happy fishing and have a great time!
I bought a vintage lamiglas S rod with a sock and rod protector at Goodwill for $25 from 1979 in perfect shape. I don't even fly fish but I liked it and thought it had to be worth more than that. Did I do ok?
Great video and catch!! Hope you get that carp someday soon -- I'll trade it to you for that steelhead 😉
Haha! Thanks. Really going to give those spinners a try for another steelhead this spring. So excited!
Great video LBA 🐞, love the meaning behind it. Cheers to the pursuit of that carp on Dad's old rod.
Thanks. Yeah this goal will be fun to try.
Some 300 & 400 grit sandpaper will bring those cork grips back to life
Cool. I’ll try that. Do you recommend any finish on it or just leave it natural?
@LadybugAdventures I couldn't name a finish for cork, id say leave natural, if anything maybe get ahold of MUDHOLE CUSTOM ROD BUILDING COMPONETS CO.

The reel is actually perfect and is a Mitchell reel and I have 2 and both do that
Good to hear. I kept it just in case. I'll service it and give it a try?
@@LadybugAdventures definitely give it a try and look at how many ppl on yt restore old mitchells, very fun to do and either polish it up and regrease or repaint as well
@@Jkpgs will do. Can't wait to get it cleaned up one day. Salmon season is in full swing so it will have to wait until winter!
Awesome stuff, I love what you had to say here. You are appreciating nostalgia , and not many people do. I haven't been fishing since childhood myself, and you're making me want to get back at it again. I really enjoyed your video, good stuff!
Thank you. Really appreciate it. Should definitely give it a try again!
