Its funny seeing those Edge's with the HUGE 20's and tinted windows and then seeing mom and the kids get out haha. Great review Steve! Any Mercs or Audis in the future?
that huge oversized front chrome grille is really stunning, literally, almost like it may pose as a danger concern to other drivers by blinding them with sunlight.
We have a 2014 Edge limited with 3.5 V6 and I must say when we got it we got a great deal.. Only a few gripes I have with the vehicle. The vista roof has given us some issues regarding the motor it seems to have tapered out as the years progresses 2. The leather it is sub par and clearly where they cut the cost the leather was fine the first year but it is not durable as now it just feels like plastic .. 3. The gear selector when putting the car in park even if the shift lever is in P the car will warn you that the transmission is not in park and you have to like shove it a bit for it to engage Park.. 4. The AWD system several times the system has come on stating to check the system.. however a quick restart of the vehicle fixes that issue.. Other than that the car is superb! Has good power for the most part. Although I wish we opted for the sport for the extra torque. The seats are comfortable and it’s plenty of space inside the cabin.. We have a 2014 so we got the upgraded lighting with HIDS they look great and give the car an upscale look and feel. Sound system is great and haven’t had any problems with the infotainment like so many gripe about. Rating 1-10 Edge 8.5
I couldn't believe it when I saw Car & Driver placed the CX-5 ahead of the Escape in a recent comparo! I usually have similar opinions to these guys but I can't see that call at all.
with respect, some of us don`t need 4wd/awd, or the extra fuel consumption they use, but the higher ground clearance and easier access afforded by the suv is better for those of us older folk that find sedans a bit low and difficult to get in and out of, rightly or wrongly i see mini vans more as soccer mom vehicle. cheers.
Steve, how big is the space compromise if someone opted for the Escape titanium with all the bells and whistles instead of this Edge. I was just playing around on Ford's website and configured an AWD Escape Titanium, with as many options as I could want, and a even few just for the hell of it, and still managed to come in around $37k.
The Edge is considerably bigger all around. The Escape is a great small SUV though...the best on the market when optioned like you've built. But it's not going to give you the space that the Edge does...not even close.
The Venza limited is the same price as the Ford, I know my neighbor just bought the Edge, plus the Ford is 285 Horsepower and gets slightly better MPG than the toyota
While I appreciate that Ford is offering a more fuel efficient SUV I think this example is really disappointing. Steve, in your review you mentioned the car being "Soulless" and I think that really sums it up. In my opinion this is a boring, generic washing machine of a SUV when KIA and other mid-range brands are offering far better looking options. Just as Honda are turning out old looking new cars - Ford is staying safe with the Edge and it makes it lack an...edge..
Ford has WAY too many expensive packages and they charge for EVERY feature! No good standard features. $38,000 for a ford? Are you kidding me? I would take that and buy a Toyota venza which is better on gas and more reliable with better resale, or the new 2013 santa fe. Ford such.

It costs more to build and is imported from Spain to Canada where the Edge is assembled.

Which is better, Edge or new Escape?

I just wish Ford would put the EcoBoost V-6 would be available in the Edge, the one similar to the Taurus SHO and the 2013 Explorer Sport.
Does it come with a fire extinguisher?
Motor Trend had the Escape as the tops of the compact SUV in their comparo test with the CX-5 as the runner-up.
Agreed.
Want there a recent recall for the Edge?

The Ecoobost is a lot more complex in design, assembly, and certification. Thus it costs more to make.

Mazda CX-5 is different class vehicle; Ford's Escape is its direct competitior; and I like the new Escape better than the CX-5 due to more HP.
Nice car.
Efforting that
I think it’s so dumb to offer an SUV with FWD! They should come standard with 4WD or AWD! Like you mine as well get a Ford Focus Hatchback
