    Humans need to respect the fact that this is their territory - - both manatees and dugongs have no place to be other than in the water.
    Something else that ought to be done, and that has been proposed for decades, is a wire protective cage around boat propellers during manatee season. This way, even if there is an interaction with the vessel, it is a strike or a bump rather than a cut.

    • @CarolLynnWilliams
      @CarolLynnWilliams 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      The boaters don't want to do it - - it's expensive & too much trouble to fit and then remove propeller guards (scuba divers need to be hired), and they say that there is potential sea vegetation fouling that is harder to clear with the propeller guard attached.
      My thinking has always been that the boaters need to do it, legally, or stay out of the water when the manatees are there, since they are there seasonally.

      Abu Huraira unfortunately not everyone on this planet understands that, which is why it is so difficult to see any progress. Big part of the problem is that people don’t just stop at not understanding universal principles like the one you just voiced (and others like it), but they HAVE to also act maliciously as if being destructive towards any comments or efforts made by the people who act in favor of the environment brought them any gains. While I can understand (yet NOT JUSTIFY) the reasons for the sabotage done by those who benefit financially from it, I don’t understand the reasoning behind the mockers and saboteurs who do it just to look or feel like they’re tough...

We would bring Junior Mints to use as bait for some reason, whivc was probably why none of us ever caught anything. One time when we went to the lake and were walking up the dock, we saw a manatee and her calf. They came up for air and looked at us for a minute before swimming off. I think I almost pet either the mom or baby before my dad told me not to touch them.

    Why do people use bloats then?! If They swim nothing will happen. Manatees are so gentle and don’t hurt people they are so kind!
