Been thinking about a Ts 254 xd,got a husqvarna 24v48 now that we have had for 7 years and love that mower been looking to upgrade.
Stick with the 48” deck. The 54 is to wide for the chassis and we see cut quality issues and more bent blades
I keep my wheels well greased. I added "poor man's power steering" to mine by putting in a set of needle thrust bearings at the bottom of the steering spindles and replacing the wheel bushings with bearings, having unsealed the inner side of the sealed bearings so that they can be greased regularly as well. The front wheels roll much more easily now and the steering is easier too.
Oh, and on that wash-out port you might mention that it works much better if you first lower the deck to it's lowest setting otherwise the water doesn't do much except get the underside of the deck wet, lol.
Great tip!
I'm looking at the 42 inch model. Was trying to decide between Cub Cadet XT2, John Deere S240 or Husqvarna TS 242XD pretty sure going with the TS 242XD, Little more Money but a better machine in my opinion, I like the switch for backing up with blades on and the deck and grease fitting on everything. Thanks for the video, excellent information
That’s a great choice. You’re going to love it.
recently had to remove belt covers to eliminate buildup underneath
Great maintenance point to make.
Just bought one ! Thanks for the great tips.
Hope you enjoy it!
I use ethanol fuel when I'm mowing weekly as the gas doesn't have a chance to get old. In the fall before my last mow I'll fill the tank with ethanol-free gas and know that then, it will store fine in winter and be ready for the next spring. I run ethanol free year round in my 2 cycle engines though as they get used somewhat more infrequently. Husqvarna made my mower, a 2010 model Poulan Pro 500EX 20hp, 46" cut and to mow in reverse all I have to do is turn the ignition key to the left one notch after starting it. If I need to get off it and don't want to shut the engine off, setting the parking brake will do the trick for that.
The old girl has 419 hours on her now and all I've ever done is general maintenance, oil, blades, spindles, resetting valve lash, etc. and replacing the old Nikki carburetor when it started flooding the cylinder to the point of hydro locking it so it couldn't even crank.
My hour meter flashes every 25 hours to remind me to change the oil, but I ignore it and just do it once every spring. I put a permanent rubber hose in the oil drain hole because I got tired of losing that clear plastic drain hose every time I wanted to change the oil, lol.
Great work it sounds like you have figured out the right way to take care of your machine for your needs
You should be putting the frame brace kit on for people with rough lawns or people who will tow or push something with it. I was shocked the frame is made out of angle iron in the shape of an upside down L instead of C channel like my old one.
Thanks
Something you forgot to mention in this video, is about the small 4 wheels around the mower. Can they be adjusted, what are they for ???? Thanks.
Great catch thank you
Yes, those have I believe two spots that they can be placed in. They are an anti-scalp roller. They are designed to prevent the deck from gouging in. Ideally the wheels should be running right above the grass level not actually rolling on the grass if they’re rolling on the turf that is going to make that mower deck , move back-and-forth on every little bump that you hit and that’s really not what you’re looking for your quality will go down. That makes sense.
I'm thinking about purchasing the Ts248xd. I have Yth24v48, My question will the bagger interchange, IE will my bagger fit the TS248xd?
You will need new boot and tube
I want one, just need to convince dad 😅
Let’s go
I bought one got one hour o it and it broke down got it back went to mow broke down again haven't got it back yet only been a week I should have bought a few goats
I’m sorry about that. Hopefully you servicing dealer can get it all dialed in. May I ask what broke?
@carlsmowerandsaw first time it stopped mowing was a bad pulley on one of the blades one hour on mower. Next time at five hours on mower was throttle cable was installed wrong and mower cable was missing bracket cable was just hanging around mower blades.
Need to put a wrap on that air cleaner that won't last a week oil never more than 50 hrs take care my friend 👍
Great point! We always put a pre-filter on during servicing unfortunately unfortunately many mowers don’t come with them brand new
@@carlsmowerandsaw I've noticed with the new design of air filters that they seem to fit loosely on the intake mount, letting unfiltered air through more easily than like with the old round filters that fit on the intake really snug. I'd be tempted to take a blue scott shop towel and cut it to fit around the intake, then pushing on the air filter using the towel as a "gasket" to make the fitting more air-tight.
Hi
would it be possible to do a TH-cam on a Husqvarna TS242TXD. much appreciated
Good call. I’ll try to soon
