All about shallow well pumps.

  • I failed to properly winterize my pump and its junk. Today we are replacing a harbor freight Drummond 1HP shallow well pump. This pump worked great before it froze and broke so I'm sure the new one will serve us well. This little bump can serve a ton of needs. Shallow well, works great. Off grid water pump, emergency water backup. emergency well backup, remote property irrigation. Remote fire suppression, Brush fire prevention in areas that you don't have a water line available. Lots of options.

    That switch on the pump is probably not heavy enough for the current that motor draws and will likely cause you trouble at some point down the road.
    I used to think those were a good idea on my pool filter motors, but they burn out after about a year or so.
    I decided I was better off eliminating the switch and just plugging the cord in to turn it on.

    Isn’t that a check valve and not a foot valve, I believe it’s serving the same purpose as a foot valve except for the fact that the FV has a screen on it. I’m not for sure just asking.

    • @workinonitsteve
      @workinonitsteve  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, what I was trying to explain was that you need one or the other. A foot valve has a screen and goes down the well vs this can just go anywhere on the suction side in-line.

    Does water go down into the green tank on the pump?

    • @workinonitsteve
      @workinonitsteve  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The green tank is a small pressure tank. Same as the big ones you see on a normal well setup. It has a rubber bladder inside that is pressurized with compressed air. It helps maintain pressure and keeps the pump from hammering on and off. The pump forces water into it and the water outlet comes out of it. Kinda acts like a shock absorber, does that make sense?

    What kind of valve? Foot pressure valve?

    • @workinonitsteve
      @workinonitsteve  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it’s a foot valve, you can get the threaded like mine for inline setup from a tank or one with a screen on it for drafting out of a shallow well. It just keeps the water from draining out of the pump causing you to lose prime .

    Why did you put the foot valve on the pump?? it is 100% worthless up there.. It goes on the bottom of a feed line,, that is why it's called a FOOT valve.. Perhaps you should know a little about what you are doing before giving instructions to other people.. .. AND the directions say never reduce the pipe size...

    • @workinonitsteve
      @workinonitsteve  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m using the foot valve as a check valve to prevent pressure from bleeding back after the pump shuts off. This pump is obviously gravity fed by the tank it’s sitting next to and not drafting from a shallow well. Possibly you should pay enough attention to what is going to avoid looking ignorant in the comment section. 🙄

    • @twistedhillbilly6157
      @twistedhillbilly6157 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@workinonitsteve The item you are using is a flapper style check valve, NOT a foot valve. You are saying that you are stopping pressure from the garden hose going back into the tank.. YOU make no sense at all.. I would suggest that you THINK it through but that would be too much to ask... PAY ATTENTION!! ONE WAY VALVE.

    • @workinonitsteve
      @workinonitsteve  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@twistedhillbilly6157 you are simply confused. Without that valve the water in the pump, hose and attached pressure tank bleeds back through line into the holding tank as soon as pressure is reached and the pump shuts off. It will cycle on and off every 10 seconds. Fact is it works perfectly with the valve installed. You’re wrong and apparently really unhappy about it. Sorry you live such a miserable life both not understanding basic plumbing principles and getting mad at people trying to teach you basic plumbing principles. It’s possible that the internet is not for you. Been using several of these pumps successfully this way for years.

Hallucinogenic substances sure are fun aren't they??!!??!! If you ever grow a brain, you'd realize that a simple pump for 1/4 the price would do the job much better and would last a lot longer.. • @workinonitsteve

      It operates on a pressure switch like a standard well with a pressure tank. Same as most air compressors cycling on and off.
