  • It can be intimidating to lift your RT or other motorcycle off the ground the first time you do maintenance, such as pulling a wheel or working on forks. The center stand can be used to lift the rear of the bike, but what about the front? In this video I'll show you how simple it is to pivot the bike on the center stand using a scissor jack.

little correction, if you remove anything off the rear while it's on the centerstand, nothing will happen to the balance. the engine which is the heaviest element will keep the front down no matter what.

You're referring to my statements starting at 1:10, I think. I didn't mean to imply that the front would come off the ground if the rear wheel is removed, only that the balance point has changed. It's important to keep track of that point because as you are actually doing work, such as loosening or tightening bolts, the balance point will affect how much pressure or counterweight can be applied before the bike starts to tip. I like to use blocks or jacks to steady the bike in position if I'm really torquing down on something.

@@tinderboxarts makes sense . . it was actually in reference to the written statement at @1:37. for a new rider it might be a bit confusing. enjoy your vids and they're helpful

Question, my r1200rt engine guards just arrived and looking at the bag of t-bolts Ive noticed that all the washers they sent are regular flat washers! Should I use lock washers? and some medium loc-tight?

You know, the flat washers are probably fine but if you want to use lock washers it couldn't hurt. I haven't noticed any issues with loose bolts on my guards.

Thanks, went and picked up some lock washers! One more question, the top support arm on the engine guard one one side has a small extension barrel in which the bolt fits thru? Does it go on the left or right side ??Iam thinking the left side, it came with a short and long bolt?

I can't recall that now, but if you just bolt everything on loosely first, it becomes obvious what fits where.
