Same Street Fighter 2 Intro But Different Versions

  • Street Fighter II is a classic fighting game that was released in 1991 and has since been released in several different versions and on various platforms. Street Fighter II features iconic characters such as Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Guile, as well as the memorable theme music composed by Yoko Shimomura.
    The intro for Street Fighter II has remained largely the same across all versions of the game, but there are some slight differences between the various releases. For example, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) version of Street Fighter II has a slightly different intro than the arcade version, with slightly different graphics and a different arrangement of the theme music. The Street Fighter II Turbo edition, which was released for the SNES in 1993, also features a slightly different intro than the original Street Fighter II. The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive version of Street Fighter II also featured some changes to the intro sequence in order to remove references to racial stereotypes.
    In addition to the differences in the intro graphics and music quality, there are also some slight variations in the character designs and backgrounds between the different versions of Street Fighter II. However, the core gameplay and overall feel of the game remains largely the same across all versions.

    I was always confused by the intro. The intro was two regular guys in a street fight, and the game was called Street Fighter. I got that far. But the actual game was superhumans fighting each other with supernatural/magic powers, and not the kind of thing you would see in an actual street fight.

      @@mexicanbox420 People have also thought that the white guy was Joe and the black guy was Mike from SF1. For years that has been the persistent theory, and that’s probably why Capcom gave them their own profiles. Incidentally, their profiles say they are both boxers, and if Capcom wants to put a boxer in SF6 at some point, I would have no objection to Max being a boxer for SF6. He’s already come back in one of SF5’s backgrounds, and none of the currently announced SF6 characters seems to be a boxer.

    Some notes:
    * The ZX Spectrum intro is from a bootleg copy of the game.
    * In both the Japanese and International Genesis versions, Scott’s sprite was redrawn with higher quality more akin to the Champion Edition portraits, being somewhere between the level of those and the portraits in Super SF2. It is possible Scott and Max would have appeared again in Super, and the updated sprites on the Genesis version are all that remains of the idea. Or maybe the redrawn sprites would have been in Hyper Fighting, but they ran out of time to add them.

I personally never thought of anything of it back then and they didn't either in a response letter. From then on every version had 2 white fighters with a more diverse crowd of on lookers. @@ggn3 I'm not sold if that is correct. C64 release was on a tape as they were the commonly used media rather than disks. However if there was a floppy release as well, I would rather assume it was a single disk and hence it would need just Side A to Side B swap at best. But please correct me if I'm wrong, this is just my assumption as I had Atari 65XE with floppy around C64 era and already the Amiga 500 when SF2 came out.

    What's peculiar to me is the X68000 seems to be missing a few instruments from the arcade version, despite the CPS-1 arcade board and the Sharp X68000 sharing comparable hardware and even the same assets. Are the sound capabilities of both machines different ?

    • @DataHotep
      @DataHotep ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think, I could be wrong, the sharp computer had different sound chips available that you could buy and place in the machine. I’m guessing they were variants of the Yamaha YM fm synthesis line of chips but I don’t really know because I never had one, just an educated guess. So there may have been some incompatibilities. I remember the msdos port being quite decent!

      @@zachw2538 It's because the story of this opening of Street Fighter II got funny over time, the black guy just gets beaten up. There was even a console version that, in order not to cause trouble, put two white guys, one of them to replace the black guy. So it would be pretty funny if they had the black guy hitting the white guy. It would be a kind of revenge for the black guy, since he was always beaten in the face over time in the opening of Street Fighter II. Revenge is a dish best served cold.🤣
