In America, people often purchase a small two tiered cake. After the bride and groom make the initial cut, it is whisked back to the kitchen to be cut. In the kitchen are a couple of sheet cakes of the same flavor that is cut up and served unbeknownst to the guests. It saves a lot of money and no one is the wiser.
I'm American and I have never seen anyone take the cake back to the kitchen to be cut. I also rarely see cakes that small. I think it just depends on the people. It's not an American thing.
oh mg...you look so much like cameron diaz! I love her btw..so its a compliment :) On another note - thank you so much for this informative video and being so funny and charming. You've just got a new sub.
The only thing I would have changed about our wedding day was hiring a videographer! I was shocked at how expensive they all were, and decided against having one. But now after seeing how emotional our handwritten vows were and the speeches, I wish I had it all on video!! Loved your little video, so glad I stumbled upon your page.
The one thing I would change about our wedding day is, to do our couple photographs first. We spent so much time doing group shots we ran out of time to take shots of just us before dinner and now we have only 7 shots of us as a couple. They are gorgeous photos I just wish we have more.
Becky Botham I’m so happy you mentioned that because I’m getting married in 6 weeks and thats exactly what I wanted to do first. Just take our time and take pictures of the 2 of us
My partner and I are in the planning process of our wedding and this was super helpful and got me thinking about things I hadn't yet, so thanks! Also, love your look in this video - your hair and earrings are gorge! X
We had only 4 months to plan the wedding and totally underestimated the amount of time that goes into planning such a large event. As a result, we wrote our speeches in about 30 minutes (I wrote mine in 5!). Our speeches ended up being not that great but we did at least thank people profusely (that was the major gist of our speeches). We just regret not saying more about each other!
I laughed so hard when you mentioned the weather app. Our wedding is this weekend and I’ve been checking it every day leading up to it..by the hour, humidity, wind etc. 🤣 sounds kinda ridiculous now that I think about it! Great video. Definitely enjoyed it.
Oh my goodness he gave away your bouquet!? I was sad when my table place settings were accidentally thrown away by the staff when they moved the room around for the evening, if it had been my bouquet missing I think I would have cried lol My biggest regret is not just walking around with it a bit more because it was so blooming gorgeous haha I just got married 2 weeks ago and loved it all, I wish I could go back and do it all over again. I have to say though looking back I am SO glad that we didn't choose to buy much for it! The decor we kept minimal and classy, using foliage and herbs with natural textures from fabrics throughout, I made all my stationery and signs (having an Art degree helps) and we had garden games that went down an absolute storm. We only catered for 75% for the evening and had drinks tokens rather than alcohol on the tables which cut down on waste. Everyone was so happy and relaxed it was just perfect, I honestly couldn't have wished for a better day!
As a hobby cake decorator who has made wedding cakes, take the advice of the cake decorator in regard to the best type of cake for the season and location of your wedding. A naked cake in the middle of summer and outside will end up dry (since it is not protected by much icing or fondant) and the buttercream filling will melt. There are so many interesting options that are at all different prices. For some weddings a beautiful cake can really make the event and be something special that you and your guests can share together. Because most people don't spend much on cakes at other times. Either way, just take advice so that whatever cake you have on your special day will taste and look great on your wedding day.
This was so helpful! I'm getting married in November and I hadn't even thought of things like where the photographer will stand during the ceremony!! Thank you! Xx
It is common to have a little "regret" or things that you would like to change about your wedding day... I think all of your are really reasonable though. :) AND I love these kind of videos too!
I wish I hadn’t worried so much about the weather as well. It actually rained twice on our wedding day, when we were having our ceremony and when we were eating. Everyone still really enjoyed their day and got to use all the outside space, the only way it slightly effected us was that my feet got wet while talking our photos because we were on grass. I do have to give a shout-out though to the ushers who got wet while bringing the chairs in to set up for the ceremony...troopers
Thank you for this video! My wedding is outdoors this Saturday and it is supposed to be thundering and raining and I’m so nervous because we don’t have an indoor venue as back up But this helped me at least to try not to worry about the weather!
Thank you for sharing the tips and experience. We are planning a wedding right now. These are really good things to remember. About photography, a few mention wish taking more positions and pictures. Can you please advise on how long the photography is longer enough? My current package is 4hrs, 8hrs and even longer. Wedding starts at 2 pm. I am struggling with timing. Thank you
Such a good video! I definitely agree with you on the cake, not worth spending so much money. My regret relates to the photography, I had the most amazing day but I just wish I had certain shots that I could have got easily, I was just enjoying the day so much that I didn't ask. I think it's definitely worth really thinking about it and telling the photographer the exact shots you want x
Ones of me and my bridesmaids outside, I got some beautiful ones but they are the only photos I feel are missing. Our photographer does documentary style photography which I loved and wouldn't change for the world, I just wish I had thought about getting photos outside instead of just in the room where we got ready (it was raining for 20 minutes once we were all ready and in the excitement I just didn't think to ask) I also wish I had my bouquet in some of the shots with my husband. So really, very small things but still photos I wish I had now to look back on :)
Hey Nina, Lauras husband here and also a wedding photographer! Even if you have a wedding photographer who is very dead-set about doing posed photos don't be afraid to ask them for certain shots if you want them. I'm a very candid photographer & documentarian but always get certain shots if the guys getting married ask. The photographer doesn't have to share them on social media/publically but if they're accommodating and a good photographer they should always help you out! So don't be afraid to ask but also don't over supply them with a huge list!
Agreed! My photographer was exactly the same, i just wasn’t specific enough about setting and looking back having the photos outside would have been a bonus ☺️
Chris Bradshaw thanks! I think my photographer is a bit of both which is nice! I'm just trying to think of some shots that maybe aren't the typical ones that might need to be asked to the photographer to do. I definitely want individual photos with my bridesmaids!
I love the idea of doing a speech at my wedding! I just think, if your partner gets to tell everyone how much they love you, thank everyone and tell funny stories, why shouldn't you?! 😀 Loved the video 💕
Hey Laura, your wedding day looks spectacular!!!! Can I ask you where you got your decorations from, cause that's exactly what I would like to have at my wedding! Thank you gorgeous ;)
Such a good topic, I love it! And thanks for the advices, I'm def saving this video for the future haha 😉 Also, the top with those earrings combination is lovely! Greetings from Croatia! 🇭🇷🤗
definitely agree about the cake. our cake was upwards of $700 and it was totally not worth it. It tasted good, but the decorations wasn't what we wanted.
Hi Laura what a lovely video. I was exactly the same with the weather I was obsessed on the lead up as we had a venue that you get married outside it weather permitted. The weather on the day was amazing and we managed to get an outside ceremony however I honestly don’t think it would have made any difference to me on the day had it been inside. Question for you, as you and your husband are photographers did you find it really hard to pick one for your day? Xx
Thank you so much! I'm not looking at the weather - I know my mom is doing that for me and will let me know lol. I like the idea of setting up your room the day of before the photographer gets there. Great idea - I know I"ll be up at 5 am pacing around!
Instead of a cake I think we're going to have Italian cookies and pastries. Not everyone likes cake and I've had a lot of lousy wedding cakes that aren't worth the money. There's only one wedding cake I can remember because I LOVED it. It was a naked cake and sooooo delicious. Maybe I just hate frosting? LOL
I had the perfect day. Our parents as guests. Ted Baker dress. Registry office...beautiful meal in an irish castle after. No photographer, no videographer....beautiful photos taken on a phone. It wa a just a beautiful day
My husband and I planned a small wedding in a really short amount of time. We got married in a space the officiate had set up, and he called me the wrong name at one point! 😂 it rained on our wedding day, but apparently that’s good luck! We didn’t have a wedding photographer, which is one big thing I would change! I wish I would have planned a speech as well. My husband and I would like to plan a bigger wedding in a couple years for everyone to be able to celebrate with us. Overall I think my wedding day was amazing and I’m glad it all happened the way it did ❤️
Here's what I'd change: I'd have prepared way ahead of time to memorize the members of my husband's ENORMOUS family. Many of whom I was meeting for the first time at the wedding. I wish I'd have obtained photos of everyone and made flash cards of their names, how they're related, who their kids and parents are, what they look like and what state they live in. Having a hazy understanding of who everyone was meant that my memories of who said what and why on the wedding day are also very hazy. I thought I had a basic idea of his family beforehand, but meeting them all was dizzying.
Things I would change: shorter engagement, smaller guest list, different MC as ours left the programme at home and didn't even do his job. My bridesmaids didn't want to give a speech and our parents didn't get to say theirs because noone told them when to come forward.
I can’t find a man who wants to marry me lol! Or find a man at all for that matter. I liked this video it was something different and unique to what you normally do.
Mary-Anne Delaney omg I had no idea!
I'm American and I have never seen anyone take the cake back to the kitchen to be cut. I also rarely see cakes that small. I think it just depends on the people. It's not an American thing.
Am I the only American that thought she meant the wedding guest ate the 600 lb cake like thats how much it weighed. lol
You're not the only one who thought that but I'm French. Much weirder 'cause we use grams ...
Me too! I thought, wow, she must have been expecting alot of guests. 🤣😂
Fit Britt yes that’s what I thought too 😂🤣
Same!
😂😂☝🏾
oh mg...you look so much like cameron diaz! I love her btw..so its a compliment :) On another note - thank you so much for this informative video and being so funny and charming. You've just got a new sub.
Malvina Creates I thought the same thing!! I even showed this to my best friend too... we both agree lol!
I thought the same. I was going to comment that as well.
I was about to write that too. You're so gorgeous!
Malvina Creates I honestly clicked because I thought she was Cameron Diaz for a second 🤣
gosh i love her dimples 😍 can't stop looking at them

Becky Botham The lighting is better closer to evening. So there might be less time, but the photos turn out better if they are last!
Becky B yes I think it also helps if you do first looks then you could photograph that.
Omg! I love this video. You're sooo funny! That moment of silence for your lovely beautiful bouquet!
Things I'd change about my wedding day:
1) my husband
Cameron Diaz vibes back from There’s Something About Mary 😍
Adria YES YES & YES!!
Cameron Diaz and Sara Paxton mix!
My partner and I are in the planning process of our wedding and this was super helpful and got me thinking about things I hadn't yet, so thanks! Also, love your look in this video - your hair and earrings are gorge! X

What is a drink token
creativecatlady I’m so sorry they got thrown away but it sounds like the rest of the day was wonderful! 💜💙💜

Michelle Cox Photography I agree it’s impossible for everything to go perfectly.

Jodie Melissa if I may ask, what kind of shots are you talking about! My wedding is next September ! ☺️

Bernadette Garcia that’s so cute honestly I just don’t know if I could do it 😅
Hey Laura, your wedding day looks spectacular!!!! Can I ask you where you got your decorations from, cause that's exactly what I would like to have at my wedding! Thank you gorgeous ;)
chiara antelmi her decorations look so gorgeous!
Such a good topic, I love it! And thanks for the advices, I'm def saving this video for the future haha 😉 Also, the top with those earrings combination is lovely! Greetings from Croatia! 🇭🇷🤗
Ana Marija Blatnik I’m saving this too 🤣👍
Were you too stressed during it? Were you able to take a moment to look at everyone else or were you worried about how things were going with you?
K Pare I hope on my wedding day I remember to take it all in a few times also! :) ❤️
definitely agree about the cake. our cake was upwards of $700 and it was totally not worth it. It tasted good, but the decorations wasn't what we wanted.
I feel so lucky my caterer also makes cakes in loads of different flavors and sizes so we got a nice big naked cake for $30 USD
Hi Laura what a lovely video. I was exactly the same with the weather I was obsessed on the lead up as we had a venue that you get married outside it weather permitted. Make your first wedding your one and only.
I did the whole speech on my wedding day, my husband was too nervous
jolene rekman I don’t think I could ever do a speech 😱
You look like Cameron Diaz! So beautiful

It's quite a UK thing to not have the bride (or any women) do a speech at their wedding. Very common in other countries.

When you said he give your bouquet away I stop breathing 😫🤦🏾♀️
Has anyone told you how very much you look like Cameron Diaz?!
Things I would change:
shorter engagement, smaller guest list, different MC as ours left the programme at home and didn't even do his job. My bridesmaids didn't want to give a speech and our parents didn't get to say theirs because noone told them when to come forward.

Em Ma You will, probably when you least expect it 😊
True, I’m not desperate, sometimes it just seems like everyone’s in relationship but me, who knows I might meet my Prince Charming today :)
Em Ma I know the feeling! I know it’s a totally clichéd thing to say, but it was so true for me.
RIP Bouquet XD
You look like a blonde Miranda Kerr
Your husband is lucky that he isn't divorced for giving your bouquet away....or I hope that he got something for you to TRY and make it up to you.
H
