  • I'm going to prove once and for all that the natural hair community has become such a scam. It's no longer centered on sisterhood and education, but it is really a way for companies, brands, and influencers to push products for financial gain. There's no rules yall! I can't be the only one who feels the natural hair community is breaking down.

I NEVER throw any hair product away, no matter how they work on my hair. Bomb leave in? Add some extra oil/honey/aloe vera and use it as a deep conditioner. Drying conditioner? Throw some castile soap and peppermint oil in that ish and get a stimulating shampoo! Even Cantu that had my hair feeling like sun dried hay was repurposed...to a tub cleaner lol!
In all honesty, I've spent hundreds on products that did nothing for me, just because someone told me to buy them. Now, unless it's a brand/person I want to support (like Naptural85), I stick to the same 2 products and herbs and stuff from my kitchen and just modify the ratios to fit whatever I need.

I've left deep conditioner in my hair, I've slipped leave-in into a hot oil treatment, I've just washed my hair with water (bc ya girl was can't afford a paper bag broke) and my hair was still gucci. I have tried so hard to identify what "method" my hair likes best but she acts like she's on a street corner, just accepting any and everything that comes her way. 😘 So I finally decided to listen to her and stop stressing about not getting my steps right. Yes! I’ve been trying to tell ppl!
I’m a recovering product junkie. It took me a little over 2 years to downsize to the minimum of what my hair needs even with gifting 1/2 my collection away to friends/family. I don’t buy rinse out conditioners anymore and I’m not as concerned about store bought shampoos anymore either. “Moisturizing” shampoos and rinse out conditioners were out here clarifying and drying out my hair and i had no idea bc I trusted the marketing. My hair is so much happier now that I‘m more informed about ingredients and that I’ve eliminated some “traditional” products and “must haves”.

  • @rajamonae7629

You just have to read the ingredients, some products such as deep conditioners have ingredients that if left on your scalp can cause irritation and scalp dryness. Also the pH balance of your hair is important, certain products that are made to rinse out may have ingredients such as ACV, which can affect your hair pH balance. But I agree, many products that can used in different ways, great video! 😊

I find this to be mostly true! There is an exception with deep conditioners though. Some ingredients like certain alcohols or proteins shouldn't be left in the hair for a long period of time. But you are right, leave-ins, light conditioners, and curl creams can be used interchangeably.

    • @SheReaDelSol

Thanks for posting this video... I've watched a lot of youtubers channels, purchased products from different brands etc etc etc and when I first went natural it was all about education for me and finding products that work. I said enough and I've been doing what works best for me and my hair is thriving and I'm loving it. This video is so true... this is why I love your channel. You have definitely influenced how I approach products. I have stuff that doesn’t work as it’s marketed and I’ve started using that stuff as prepoo’s. And you gave me courage to make my own DC. Last week I made my own with NO added purchased products and my hair was wonderful!! And it’s more cost effective. Now I’ll use my store bought DC’s when I don’t have time to mix up my own. You’ve changed how I approach my hair and hair care and after 10 years natural I finally feel confident and trust myself to know what works for me! I’m actually using less product as well because steaming adds so much moisture I don’t have to layer a whole bunch of products anymore. Thank you!

I only do DIY Ayurvedic products from my put together cabinet. You have to be careful advising not to follow directions on the label. I watched a video from 22nd Century Woman and she stated to use products as stated on the label. For example if the label states to leave in and rinse out after 15 minutes, you should do so. You don't know what those chemicals are doing to your hair if you leave in until your next hair wash. I became natural to use less chemicals. I believe mixing all of these products/ chemicals will not benefit anyone in the long run. Just like the perms and color did not benefit me after decades of use. 22 Century Woman is older than you and the length of hair proves she has learned from experience. My hair is fine and thin and I know from experience that these companies almost never test in their labs, combining their products with other competitor products.

This gives a really interesting psychological profile on the product junkie
I wash my hair with nothing but water. I make it work by clarifying my hair after the shower with distilled water. Oh, and technique is really key to it on top of that.

Island woman!!! I'm not much a rule breaker. But when I use a powder heavy ayurvedic treatment, I use a silicone free conditioner to help rinse out the powders. With that being said, I use my Emerge BFF leave-in conditioner for this very task.
Pretty Witty put me on to using disappointing shampoos as hand soap. I add a touch of glycerin and a bit of oil.
Pressed for Curls hipped me to using Maui Moisture Heal and Hydrate Deep Conditioner as a leave-in. I believe it says you can do so on the packaging, but I didn't know it had a secondary use until I watched her YT post.
You've inspired me to try the Mane Choice Ancient Egyptian DC as a styling cream. I wasn't wowed by it as a DC and it just looks so lonely sitting on my stash MC shelf. It's getting used. . .soon. . . #useyourstash. Shout out to Tresses of Alexis.

The products you chose worked really well for you hair, and I too think it's one of your best twistouts. I love gels and gellies to help detangle my hair. I've used both Camille Rose's gels to help as pre-poos. I almost picked up that Mane Choice shampoo the other day. I heard that Do It Fro the Culture deep conditioner was really good too, because you can feel the oils in it. I actually used Eden Bodyworks Coconut Shea masque as my cream last week for some finger coils - turned out bomb. Great minds think alike lol.

This is why you are THE QUEEN 👑 of Natural Hair (in my opinion) I will ALWAYS spend money or make DIYs you make because EVERYTHING you say, I can honestly say I’ve tried and have seen my hair changing and evolving since subscribing to your channel. I’ve been wanting the see what (I hope I don’t screw the name up lol) the Doux product line is all about but I haven’t seen you review it so i haven’t gone near it yet. But yea, some natural hair videos are OVERLY edited and I’m just like 👀👀 what DONT you want us to see? And that’s not me bashing anyone because I understand people have bills and need their coins, plus it’s hard to get in front of a camera and do videos. Anywho, this comment is too long. I've never used any of those products you shown they've always been too expensive for me I started out well TRESemme olive oil and Eco Styler gel and that's all I use for years then I started buying VO5 from the Dollar Tree as a conditioner instead of Tresemme when they change the formula it doesn't take a lot of money to do your hair if your natural 3 products is all you need. You can get all three products from the Dollar Tree they have olive oil gel and conditioner. the cheapest the better, that's what I found that works for me💋 when my daughter start making products I start using hers💋 love the video, love your Insight, keep the good work up💋
