To be fair, the R6 is everything I have been asking for before all these amazing 2020 releases. So buying the R5 feels unjustified and overkill. And to be honest, I can't afford the hidden costs of CfExpress cards and a 8k video editing setup.
The R6 is a beast for video especially with its 1DX Mark III sensor. The R5 is the better pro photo camera but in my opinion the R6 is the perfect hybrid camera.
Wish that was true. If it couldve record 4K50fps without overheating then it would be perfect for me. Now with all the options out there for video, and this R6 not being capable of recording 4K for an extended period of time, its really not worth it for me..
I bought the r6 when it first came out. Loved it and what it could do. I've just bought an r5 and I'm blown away by what it can do in comparison. I'm keeping the r6 as it's still an excellent camera.
I’d love to know a bit more about how how these two cameras perform. I gave up watching this after four minutes when still nothing had been said about it. But, I certainly agree, Finland, its people and nature is very beautiful!
The question is do you make large prints. If the answer is yes the R5 is the right choice. The R6 should be fine if you don’t print larger than 20x30. I have made excellent prints up to 24x36 with 21mp files.
It’s crazy how much TH-cam compresses the footage! I’m watching on my iPhone and when I look at 1080p vs 8k it’s actually really hard to tell the difference! It goes to show if your posting mainly to TH-cam then these higher specs don’t really mean anything 🤷🏼 unless you need to crop in hahah

Can you do a video on the usability of the R6. I actually had this ordered, but now I'm think about the R5 because there are not custom 1,2,3 video save buttons with the R6 so how does that work? Do you have to go into menus every time you want to switch to c-log or 120fps? That doesn't seem great. I also heard that if you switch to video from camera M mode, that it won't save your M settings. Can you confirm because this is more important to me than 120fps or 8k? Just subbed! Thanks for the content.
No custom modes in video mode on R6. But it does remember last settings in manual mode. To go from 4k24 to 4k60 .. u click on the Q button, select 4k60 and then adjust shutter to 125. To enable fhd120, go to menu, click on recording quality (in my menu), enable high frame rate and then adjust shutter. It’s a pain no doubt
I am a landscape photographer, I don't shoot any video really, the thing about the R6 is the 20 Megapixels just may not be enough for landscapes. I wish that Canon had come out with something like the R6 but with bumped up megapixels. May the EOS R MK II or a R5s will come out soon...Thoughts??
Another great video Teppo, hat's off to Canon Finland for getting an EOS R6 out to you to try out. Been speaking to the folk on the Canon Live Chat again -
@miyahtallulah well it looks like the overheating on canon its not really there its just a time measure that the company made for safety on the camera, I hopre they improve on it otherwise sony is really temping at the moment.. time will tell
Great review. Many amateur still photographers like me wish to buy R5 but the price is so high. So the other option is R6. Considering the price difference, R6 is an excellent performer. The other concern is about cropping 20 MP images in R6. Wildlife photographers who cannot afford super telephoto lenses, cropping is the way to go.
I only shoot in 1080 and don't see that changing soon, so the R6 looks a great camera for my needs. I do wish Canon would allow backup of 1080 files tho. Plus take the 30 minutes limit off.
Thanks for this video teppo! They both look brilliant but I’m gonna stick with my 80d till I gain more of a following! Then look to upgrade! Which one are you going with? I fee.

@@255132a I know cards have gotten a lot better when it comes to fail rate, but I have had 2 cards fail in the past when I was shooting a wedding on a Canon Mark II. It just is not something I want to think about. It also saves me from having to make another copy on an external drive, after my PC dump, when I get home. I did use both the R5 and R6 for almost a month and switched to the Sony A7sIII. I am very happy with how it handles video and does not over heat. I will say that being able to purchase Sigma or Tamron glass that is better than Sony glass for half the price is so nice. Sadly, I have a lot of EF glass to sell.

I would rent a Canon R5 or 6 before buying one. Currently, too many overheating/timer inconsistencies to work around for professional use. Hopefully, Canon will come clean why they are crippling their cameras. With the pandemic, I think it would be wise to put off major camera buying decisions until the end of the year or later when jobs return. The photography/video landscape is changing and many niche gigs may not return.
Just canceled my R5 and ordered the R6 based on this review. I don't shoot video and I thought the R6 would be a downgrade from the 5D IV after seeing this I don't think so.
I'm laughing at some of the comments from people. We just watched this in 4K on our large 5K monitor, full screen and the difference between 1080 and even 8K isn't that big. And yet, people complain that the regular 4K is "garbage" compared to the HQ version.... such a load. Tony Northrup just ran an extensive poll with videos shot at 1080 to 8k and nobody could tell the difference in the majority of the cases... Video resolution means less than photo resolution. Most people watch on tiny cellphone screens, on TH-cam (which is 8 bit IPB)... and even on giant monitors, unless you view 200% zooms side by side, nobody would know. In fact, your brother has a video about this very thing. I laugh at the TH-camrs who say the regular 4K is "unusable" when the quality is already better than the EOS-R or A7III that people have been using for years (mostly in 1080). Great video. As someone who does video and photography, the R6 is as equal to the R5 as a hybrid shooting camera. Also consider that yes, the R5 is future-ready, but the R5 will become obsolete if new technologies become available. 8k isn't an endgame. Maybe Canon will have dual AF version 3 in 2025 and have alien detection. Then the R5 will be as obsolete as VHS.
The GH5 was far ahead of rivals, and even today, with a small sensor and more than 3 years old, it can cope with most rivals. I would be impressed if GH6 achieved the same. In my case, I have no interest in an FF other than my Z6. I prefer to wait and hope that Panasonic really launches the GH6, with the best IBIS on the market and the best AF (although I work in MF)
R6... The missing of the top lcd screen is a deal breaker. How can they sell a 2700€ professional camera without a top screen. That is all i look at for 90% of the cases. It looks like a rebel Ti.
R6 has overheating limitations on all 4k modes which kind of makes it a 1080 video camera only and not ideal for many. This is a real shame caused by Canon crippling both cameras on purpose. At least the R5 has a 4k mode without restrictions or until they release a firmware update for the R6. Videogrphers/hybrid shooters will start to migrate to Sony if they dont do something about it soon.
What's up brother? Great video man! As always.. Man, that's something I'm going to have to pray about.. LOL! R5 or R6... God, lead me to the right one for me.. hahaha
R6 better bang for the buck for sure. For the price of just the R5 body you can get the R6 plus a really good lens that will last long after both bodies become obsolete. If and when 8k comes more common then more cameras will offer it and it won't seem nearly as impressive on the R5 for what people paid for. Plus having to buy a CFexpress and potentially upgrade a computer to handle such files makes it way more expensive than just the listed price for the body. I think anyone who gets an R5 will be very happy with it (especially if the heat management issues get resolved) but the R6 is the much, much better value. A lot of these youtuber guys love to say again and again that gear doesn't matter. If that's the case then you're wasting money on the R5 when the R6 is out there.
Nice video, thanks for your information, but, the conclusion is wrong in my concept. The R6 is the right option for video because is better in low light situations and R5 is right for photographers because their 45 megapixels, this is the main reason, obviously there is more reasons. Thanks anyways, for the additional information in your video.
They seem to have two different color cast, more magenta on the R6 and more yellow/green on the R5, is this due to different ND filters or the sensors?
I think neither of all those great new cameras. no r5 or r6 and also no a7 sIII. I am with your brother matti. I love new gear and i love the capabilities of al of those cameras but this doesn't make me a better Photographer or Videographer....

I think I’m going with the R6. The R5 is a little bit overkill for me, I would never need 8k, the money I would have to spend on a computer that is capable of editing that amount of data.. 🥴 and the R6 is much cheaper, I rather spend some extra cash on a new lens than features I really don’t need! At least the R5 has a 4k mode without restrictions or until they release a firmware update for the R6. Videogrphers/hybrid shooters will start to migrate to Sony if they dont do something about it soon.
2022 here. Sony came out with their competitor for the R6, and it not only does overheat occasionally, it is crippled with a 4K60 APSC crop....
Preordered the R6. Cmon 31st
Nice Vic!
Im seeing the wobble for the first time - that guy in the back is wobbling - maybe its the lens or ibis?
Its the IBIS, but Canons putting out new firmware updates for lenses to fix it
A camera should work as advertised !
Hahahaha true!
What's up brother? Great video man! As always.. Man, that's something I'm going to have to pray about.. LOL! R5 or R6... God, lead me to the right one for me.. hahaha
Hahahahhaa!
Good to bring a friend out in the forest called Yummy...because that's what the bears say before they eat him.
Love u❤️
Why thank you sir!
@@TeppoHaapoja can I ask you, do canon 4000d work in ronin-s?
❤❤love your content❤❤ 🇳🇵🇳🇵
Thanks Karan!

Just give us the more content like this.
My God man! Level your music and voice levels.
How's editing the R5 footage, cos I find I need to transcode everything, when I shoot in 4K Clog, just so that it's easy to edit on FCPX, how about u?
Im using proxies, impossible otherwise!
Teppo Haapoja man, oh ok will have to give em a try I guess
Dear Sir. Review very useful. Super. All the best. Thanking you Sir
Didn't you order the R5 already! 🤓🙃
I did!
And I have it already ;)
I want to hike as well but somehow I end up getting home with the most mosquito bites 🙈
Mosquitoes are always the forgotten devils of the summer
They seem to have two different color cast, more magenta on the R6 and more yellow/green on the R5, is this due to different ND filters or the sensors?
Could be!
I think neither of all those great new cameras. no r5 or r6 and also no a7 sIII. I am with your brother matti. I love new gear and i love the capabilities of al of those cameras but this doesn't make me a better Photographer or Videographer....
This "flat look" just for "flat look" there is no extra data in it. Why its called 10-bit 4:2:2?! It looks like fake c-log style for cheap cameras.
I just do still shots and I don't see $1400.00 difference between these cameras.
OMG, that IBIS wobble.
I havent had a chance to do the firmware update on my 15-35 RF lens
@@TeppoHaapoja Yeah, I thought the firmware was out already so I checked the date of your video and since it was new, I guessed wrong that it didn't come out yet. Hope it works out well. No IBIS is what kept me from getting the R. Now thinking R6. Thanks for the video!
I’m currently using the 6D and the new autofocus system and the IBIS look sooo good!! Ps. On se Suomi kyllä kaunis! 💙
Totally understand. The R6 is a great camera.
and why you cancel the order of R5?😢
I have the R5 :) your thinking of my brother
Teppo Haa,..haaa,.... i have not seen it, that is was your brother. One R5 in the family is enough 😂😂😂
Knowing how to light a fire is good to know in every country hahahah
Haha very true!
You must have an identical twin?! Mattie Haapoja?
Ha were not identical, hes 4 years older
I heard your voice and saw you, then saw your last names were alike and was like- they have got to be brothers!!
A constructive suggestion - next time get straight to the point of the video as per the title.
