Took me 5 tries to get one that didn’t stutter when it started and finally one that started fine is still low on power compared to my old 12”dewalt, it’s getting fixed and brought out of retirement
Been a carpenter for 30 years and always used elu and then dewalt untill 4 years ago when I bought a flexvolt 305 saw and was worst days work I ever did firstly the mains adapter blew it up so when in for new motor it then came back with a blade wobble and brake did not work very long story short sold it and got makita 40v saw which I love and the festool for fine work . Still use dewalt battery platform and touchwood not had a problem with screw guns or other tools thank god
I've read a few stories about the flexvolt burning out when connecting to mains electricity, Also sending broken kit to dewalt the dewalt 'fixit' crew fecking their tools, by breaking it more, and denying they broke things and unwilling to put things right. I'm like you I have Dewalt cordless drills, and they are holding up okay. My only Festool kit is my Domino 700, which has done a lot of work for me, and I do love.
Agreed. 37 years a chippie now, had the fokkin lot but mainly dewalt now and they're fine. Never have, never will buy a dewalt choppy though. The old Elu's were Swiss made and built to last but never like the Dewalt choppy versions. I have a corded Makita 305mm/216mm choppy and it's a belter - albeit ragged and dogged to fuck.
Such a shame. I got my DWS780 about six months ago, and it was missing a roller on the blade guard. the supplier (Toolstop)sent me a pair of rollers and serrated clips, meaning I didn't need to send it for a warranty repair the team over there made this fix painless for me. Better than DeWalt as I got no response at all from them when I contacted them with regard to my issue. Thankfully other than that it runs nicely... for the moment. Such a shame and a disgrace. I'm not brand loyal, I have Makita and Bosch tools also, I get what I feel is the best tool for me. I'm seeing others having problems with DeWalt service also, so something to keep an eye on.
I got a truck starter from a parts house that was bad like that ! Toke it back and made them test 4 more off the shelf before I carried the 5th one that tested good home ! Just because it’s new in the box does not mean it good to go .
Id be checking the blades for bends\warp before condeming a tool for spindle bend. Awfully hard to bend the spindle but real easy to throw saw in bed of truck & easily bend a blade, especially a 12" one at that. Idk, this is one of their most popular saws being made for years, I find it hard to believe they're all bad today but they are probably being made in China now, so there's that!
It's also had to bend a blade. Mort of the time it the back flange that holds the blade. But that's not the problem here. Iv tried replace the flanges myself. No good. I don't actually think the spindle is bent. More it's not mounted true. Dewalt have change something with the way these are now made. And the build quality is paying the price. This was the only 12inch saw we ever stocked. It's the main seller. But we cannot sell them now like this. This is only new saws to be clear, ones on sale now. It's a very recent problem
Sounded like the second one had the same 220v voltage regulation but was just running at 110v. Making it just run half speed. I'll bet you if you just took the second one and put a 220 plug on it then it will run the right speed.Dunno why anyone would buy this saw. You can get the Bosch which is just an amazing saw for almost the same price. Also doesn't need extra space behind it. In america the Dewalt is $649 and the Bosch is $699 at home depot or lowes.
No wonder they are almost 50% less in price than Hitachi(Metabo), Makita and Bosch in 12" compound versions. Outsource and cheapening equals CEO bonus!
This is sad to see as dewalt have historically made the best mitre saws on the market. used them for ten years and never had an issue. from busy workshop environments to site work they used to be really robust and accurate…. Looks like the new ones are being built to a lower standard. such a shame!!
Dewalt and Milwaukee... utter joke of a "high quality" tool brand. I run Makita and Bosch. Never had a problem with them that was not a simple matter due to just wear and tear. Makita and Bosch are also some of the few brands that havent sold out ot a big conglomerate and sourced everything out to the lowest bidder in China. They do produce in China though but usually its the cheap n cheerful stuff they exclusively make in China. I have Bosch tools Made in Malaysia and even Germany aswell, Makita made in UK and Romania (They seem to have established a large factory for all sorts of Rotary Hammers and Demolition Hammers there). These days I run more and more Makita because their price to quality to performance ratio beats Bosch and Bosch has a smaller selection of tools.
I’ve been a joiner for 34 years in the USA and the north of Ireland and have used all brands of mitre saws in my work and I have found the best all round saw from roofing to finish work is Dewalt 12” mitre and the strongest! Makita 12” can’t do as much or as well and much larger and heavier would not take one for free.Dean you would know which brand sell the most?
And I would completely agree with you. That's why we always stocked the dewalt 12inch only. Never the makita. But this is a joke. We cannt even sell these dewalt saws. Customers just leave them back because they don't function as a 1000 euro miter saw. This is a problem we have seem only in the last month or 2 with brand new saws.
I have a van full of Dewalt tools of all types re carpentry and joinery. By and large, they're alright and economical enough however, I have never rated Dewalt chop saws for a number of reasons and I have a corded Makita 305mm/ 216mm blade which is buggered, battered and abused, all the safety gear missing etc but it still cuts sweet as nut after 7 or 8 years of roofing, shuttering, and yes finishing work. The only tools I've had repeated problems with are everything Milwaukee but never, ever like the Dewalt choppy's. If you're starting from scratch maybe go Makita in everything or dewalt, but not their chopaws.
DeWalt 54v cordless miter saw has a problem where it burns, when used with mains adapter, well known in company repair shops, but there no warning on that adapter.
What repair would you recommend for the slower motor speed? Is it the arbor? Mine is out of warranty and as it was my first ever saw I didn’t really know it was faulty until it’s too late.
On the blade wobble... I'm questioning if it is due to the blade or bearings. If it's the bearings, yah, thats a problem. If its blade wobble: unless youre paying for higher end professional products priced a bit higher than this, where youre paying for higher tolerances, for most low to mid level saws, the blades they throw on there are cheaper consumer grade blades that run the risk of some mild wobble. Everyone I know operating saws like this plan on also buying a higher end blade as well & switching out the blade. The rest of your concerns are concerning. But blade wobble at this level on factory blades the wobble is not entirely suprising. That's why those pro's I know plan on buying a better blade as part of the upfront cost.
I kinda assume the wobbly issues is caused by a bad batch of flanges. But oh my that gear issue straight out of the box is a first one for me, never seen anything like that. Also dislike the quality of brush holders on some of the Dewalt saws, they are just pinned down on some plastic. Have seen quite a bit of them with dislocated brush holders and if used too long that will damage the collector eventually.
Sometimes wobble can be fixed with lapping an uneven arbor flange and nut. Should it be fixed at the factory ,absolutely. But a much easier fix then a table/fence out of level or plane.
Such a shame, shadow line idea is brilliant. I have a Festool Kapex, laser lines nowhere near as good as DeWalt shadow line, which I had before (780 earlier variant). Edit: I wonder if the blades are warped or if the spindle is caddywompus
Is it the products produced for the European market? I’ve been looking at others assessing this model but they’re out of the US and those seem to be fine.
Yes DeWalt has gone down hill ive got the 12" chop saw and 10" table saw which i bought six years ago and they've been champs. But as always companies try to save a few dollars for the profit and ruin a good thing. The 12" flexvolt saw has been burning up motors for years and DeWalt doesn't care.
I saw someone complaining about the flexvolt saw. There appears to be a design flaw that if plugged into the mains, it screws the motor. It seems that run on battery only they are okay ... maybe?
I have 2 without that useless speed control and they've been working flawlessly for years. Sounds like quality control at Dewalt has become non-existent.
