2022 Martin D-42 vs New Boucher BG52-GM which would you buy? The used D-42 is $1,900 less.

I was just introduced to these Boucher guitars today in a music store in Fredricton nb I own martins and play a lot of country and flatpicking bluegrass and can say my next guitar will be the Boucher one strum the sound was so powerful and full I don’t think I’ve ever heard a guitar like it before

I have both, they are quite different. The Martin is sweeter and the Boucher is bolder with greater attack. Two fine instruments.

Boucher had more power while the Martin had a sweet sound. Both sound really good but the Boucher sounds better to me.

love them both and have played them both, the boucher has more power and its own character, Martin is good for people who are militant to the old designs and sound. But I am Canadian so don't trust me lol

I've had both, a Martin and a Gibson Hummingbird, and this Boucher guitar is hands down a better sounding high-end quality guitar.

I have yet to play a Boucher but sure look forward to it. I have played countless Martins, some good, some not so good, some truly extraordinary. My fav Martins have always been the D28's D45's and the D41's. I owned a bitchin 1970 NY 000-18 that was a great little blues monster.

  • @rzh3443

Thru headphones, to me, the Martin is darker and has an obvious tone of a broken - in Adirondack top. The Boucher is more crisp and bright, but apparently is new out of the box and with limited play time. Also, apparently , the authentic Martin’s do not have an adjustable truss rod ( as was in the originals) which is a big no for me. Having tried some Boucher guitars , they all seem excellently built of the best materials and sound great. The resale or trade value may not equal that of the Martin’s though.

Nice!! Is the body shape of Boucher bigger than Martin? Boucher is more resonant to my ears. I once tried OM-28 Authentic and it was not so good as I expected. I own Martin and dig it though.

I love the Boucher. Why? Oddly it reminds me of the Guild D40 Traditional with mids to die for. The Adi top hadn't opened up yet as it has already on the Martin. The Martin is great, but I like mahogany with a little more crispness. I have the Guild D20 which I adore. Solid sipo (?) so a slightly brighter tone than American hog making it well balanced with a deeper bass than a D15 Martin. In 15 years that Boucher will be even better. All a matter of taste and style.

Rich 33 i have seen other videos of this guy play pretty well. Flat picking is not his thing, no shame in that. But they should have someone in there that can really demonstrate these guitars. No missed notes and pick up that pace with accurate picking, that’s bluegrass.

You have got to be kidding,is this for real or what. Is this the way sound pure conducts its buisness. Here you hsve two very high end holt grail guitars that you are hoping to sell and this is your choice of guitarist to demo these fine instruments. Surely somewhere in the immediate area there is someone you could hire to demo these sound clips for guitar. I just cant stand to hear this guy play. Elementary, boring, and mundane. Sorry, the truth hurts, but it sucks.
