Call me crazy but I think despite the fumes wood fires exhaust, I always feel the fire actually cleanses the air and actually it smells really nice too.

Moving into an apartment after three decades in houses, I'm learning how bad CO2 build-up can be, esp. since it pools from the floor up, and my futon bed is low. A C-R filter works great, but I'm considering a soda lime filter for the CO2. This might be particularly helpful around babies and day care, if there are no side-effects.

If you are interested in CO2 monitoring, we have a new model that is small and compact: th-cam.com/video/z59ve7T407M/w-d-xo.html

If you do the PC fan model, the noise is less than many HEPA devices

The Corsi-Rosenthal filter is easy to search on TH-cam, or even to imagine taping a 20x20 filter to a simple box fan. I have two and they work fairly well. The Corsi is a step up.

As an ex HVAC tech A simple box fan motor will burn up due to restriction of the said filters. I recommend getting one from a store with a good warranty, because it will get hot and fail. Have you ever seen a box fan sold with a filter? Or seen filters made for box fans?

Hi Miles. I had similar concerns and initially watched my Corsi Rosenthal boxes like a hawk. It turns out that the four (or even five) filter cube design allows so much airflow that there really isn't much resistance on the fan motor at all. I have regularly run them in 8-hour intervals for six months without issue. Common sense stuff like not running them in an unoccupied space is still smart though. 👍
The only box fan/filter model I am aware of is the Lasko FF305 Air Flex 2-in-1. It uses a MERV 10 filter, and I wouldn't feel comfortable upping it to the recommended MERV 13.

It would be also interesting to understand which role do sensors (CO2, PM2.5 etc..) play in this, especially if energy efficiency of the whole system is also a factor which need to be watched. What do you guys think?

It’s funny to me we’re isolating homes seal tight, just to start blowing air through it. We need air people! Might as well just not seal the building so tight.
And yes this also means we are bound to lose heat to this airflow! There is no way around it, we are humans!

🤪I'm not scared of covid. We have flu every year in every country and it will never stop happening. Nothing has changed that. But it is good to pay attention to air quality. We need testers.

Or we could stop listening to the advice given by people who are freaked out by life in general (like video above) for a virus that is mild in nature who do not kow what they are talking about Seriously you work for a "science magazine"..... and your duct tape filter box in a dorm room is not comparable to a hospital.
