    That looks brilliant, so much nicer than a wire floored cage. Well done 👍

    Hey, just a thought, I've had luck keeping out rats and mice in voids like the top of the coupe near the drain, by using rock and gravel to fill the void. Use a grade small enough to fit snug but big enough to prevent tunnelling or digging, ie dogs, foxes.

      We moved just the older males in right now to see how they respond to the pen and they are doing great! So we will be moving a younger group in hopefully soon. Several of the ideas/techniques we use can be done on a small parcel of land, patio, or back yard!

    You probably want to paint those boards so they don't rot overtime

    • @wildwoodwonder112
      @wildwoodwonder112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I think in the future we will! Or I might just clear seal them.

    Cool build Could I get the plans for it?

    • @wildwoodwonder112
      @wildwoodwonder112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I don't have any plans for it, we just measured the space we had and went from there, lol! Our goal was to use the un-utilized space for a better purpose.

    How cold can quail handle in winter?

    • @wildwoodwonder112
      @wildwoodwonder112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We live in Mississippi in zone 7B, so we only have to worry about freezing temps just for about 3-4 months. I usually put up a wind blocking board in one corner of the cage to help block the cold and they have a heat lamp in winter.

  • @GasManLS7
    @GasManLS7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That is amazing, really cool build. Do they use the extra height though?

    • @wildwoodwonder112
      @wildwoodwonder112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you! They love the extra height! Ours will fly around and perch on the branch throughout the day. It is also nice not to have to bend down at all for feeding or cleaning the cage.

    You need to get rid of that IVY. I got some at my place that’s been going for 50 years. Good 8 inch diameter vines climbing 200 feet up a tree. It’ll take over the entire structure you just built. And become impossible to remove without destroying it.

    • @wildwoodwonder112
      @wildwoodwonder112  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ivy is a crazy fast grower! We trimmed it back throughout the year on the wall before the cage and we continue to trim inside the cage too. Definitely, a problem if you're not willing or can't trim it regularly!

    How does gathering eggs go don't they just lay wherever they want?

  • @davidchristian1717
    @davidchristian1717 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Chicken wire.. Great for keeping chicken and other birds IN, but not so much for keeping the critters that eat them OUT! A racoon can rip through chicken wire pretty easily not only that but they can reach in and grab a unsuspecting bird by the neck and pull it through the holes in the chicken wire! I hope that doesn't happen to yall! Nice build tho!

  • @luisgarci6815
    @luisgarci6815 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think possums are going to get in through the drain if not wrapped with chicken wire

    • @wildwoodwonder112
      @wildwoodwonder112  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they would, but we do have the drains covered in smaller heavy duty wire! An a metal sheet deep in the ground on the one side that was vulnerable. :)

  • @tropicallivingoverseas5202
    @tropicallivingoverseas5202 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They're a ground bird. So...
    6 feet too tall?🤔
