If I can only pick one song, Jezebel would be it. The brilliance of Sade was that she is able to write dark, complex and melancholic music, and somehow pulled it off without being a run of mill pop act, nor having to be an Edgelord metal, or punk band.

I had the pleasure of meeting Sade when she brought her Mercedes into the garage I worked at right at the height of her fame in the 80’s she was so lovely really pretty & very small. Smooth operator is my favourite track it just brings me right back to that decade such a cool song & the sax the icing on the cake it was such a sophisticated song along with your love is king compared to the New Romantic sounds of the day.

I just fell in love with her the first time she appeared on TV in France in the 80s, I managed to pass on my love for her music to my daughters, and I continue to listen to her with the same wonder as when she started.
It would be hard to find a single bad song in her catalog. She is a fantastic songwriter.

    Good content, congratulations.

The first Sade song I ever heard was "Your Love is King." It was on a cassette tape I bought at a truck stop, between Cheap Trick's "The Flame" and Bad English's "When I See You Smile." I didn't know any of these song at the time, but I loved all of them right away. Soon after that, "No Ordinary Love" came out. This is still true: when I listen to that song, it's like all of my emotional stuff just stops; everything in the world goes away and I just hear Sade. It's magic.

Growing up in the 80s I distinctly remember the first time hearing Sade on the radio, and instantly being transported. I love Sade - some of the most important and nostalgic moments in my life had Sade as the soundtrack. Mind you, I listened to EVERYTHING at this time ( and still do) - there was so much to choose from and most of it became iconic standards of their genres. But she was different - exotic, romantic, astonishingly beautiful, soothing and mysterious.. And yes, that jazzy, soulful back beat and vibe. Find the nicest stereo you can find, play ANY Sade song from ANY of her albums and turn down the lights and LISTEN. You will rarely find better arranged, mixed, recorded and produced music anywhere from any era. The Sade band became known as Sweetback and evolved into Maxwell's band. But Sade - nothing and no one can stand up to her during this era for sincere, sensuous and organic originality. Maybe George Michael, maybe Madonna, but none of them give me that warm, romantic feeling of being young and in love with a sunset lit gorgeous beach in front of you and your lover beside you. Did I tell you that I'm a GIANT Sade fan?

Fell hard for Sade and her band in the 1980s . I have great memories of seeing Sade live in concert in the 80s on their Promise tour, and am so happy to still have both Diamond Life (CD) and Promises (vinyl LP) amongst my music collection / selection.

There is one hecka story with "smooth operator". I was this person. SAde sung it most beautifully, And our copy shop (alphagrphics Printshops of the future and blah blah) Marcha came in LEAD SALESPERSON of year! Sininghtis S O song. I liked it she said of course you do, YOU ARE the S O of our copy shop! and for one week this is all we did whiie working we sang smooth operator! I ran the Xerox 9500 , 9900 and later thd Docuteck 35 for the shop. Even our clinets came in for their jobs and sang with us.. superb simple song..MOST superb songs ARE quite simple And Sade made this point. Congrats to a superbly beautiful and talented artist, you made mywork effortless!

Sade is my favourite musical act of all time. British acts in general I have noticed seem to be underrated for some of their contributions to Soul and R&B. Simply Red's Picture Book, George Michael's Faith and Sade's Diamond Life are all phenomenal Soul records. It wasn't until I got their vinyl records that I realized Sade was the primary lyric writer, Stuart mostly assisted with the music. For that reason my favourite songs are Tar Baby from the Promise album. It seems to be an allegory for the turmoil her mixed heritage brought into her family. The other song is Haunt Me from the Stronger Than Pride album, what I would give to have been in the studio when they made this record such a beautiful song! I hope the wave of reunions happening this year will motivate them to give us a farewell album and a tour. If they do I hope the new album is more upbeat, Soldier of Love was too mellow lol except for the title track that was a 5 star song ha!
