This was your best overall description of the starting position for the hard style. Obviously for those of us who have watched all of your videos, much of it is repeat from past videos, but you added a couple details, and I really like how you finished it off with the line: "essentially you're doing a standing plank". I suspect many people underestimate the importance of those specific details, in order to get the most benefit from the movements.

I am really enjoying this series. I've never actually learned the difference between Hard and Soft Style. I've always done hardstyle training.

I realise that I do ‘soft style’ whereby the bell moves according to the hip snap movement. I find that I also do this with the 16kg although I often feel daunted. Working on getting the reps up. Aiming for 100 swings by the end of the year. thank you Mark, your vids are so well presented with clear details.

Good stuff! I just did this with my 15lb KB to dial in that pendulum motion.

I like both styles. If I want a HIIT cardio workout, I’ll do hard style. 1 min straight of hard style swings kinda makes you want to die, but so does most HIIT. Long steady state? I’d go sport style ... although it tends to chew your hands up more than hard style 🤔

Iam on the soft style. I like working in sets of 100 swings with push ups, air squats and jumping rope. Really good instructions, thanks.

Mark do you see any problem on the 1 hand swing with 1 hand position as you suggest and 1 where the hand is positioned neutrally? It feels more comfortable for my body
(Right hand side thumb goes back toward my butt on down swing, left hand side thumb is pointed out toward knee)

I don’t know if that will create elbow stress or not. But it’s worth a shot

    An excellent video!!
I know you're "on the road" currently, and hence may not have access to professional editing personnel/software, but might I suggest something, Mark, to make such videos even better (if that were possible): Show both the techniques side by side in a split frame kinda thingy (maybe even incorporate slo-mo techniques for a few demo rounds or so); this will enhance the differences and make the overall instructional experience better for the viewer (esp. the novices), IMO.
    But, even otherwise, great video!
Thanks! And, wish you the best, as always!

That is currently beyond my skill and equipment limitations. Apologies.

@@MarkWildman No, no...your instructions are top notch, Mark! Whenever this stupid pandemic 'ends', and you have more time, and access to software/personnel, do think about incorporating such ideas...
I think they will enhance viewer understanding and the quality & viewership of your content...some such video manipulations (as used by a few other KB channels) certainly helped me to better grasp the snatch & a few other movements more clearly...
      Cheers! Stay safe!

Looks as though soft style is also dance training?

Isn’t any type of movement training... dance training?

Today I tried the soft style hand to hand swing for the 1st time with 6kg Kb and for 3 min. I really enjoyed it but now I have a lower back pain that I never have with hard style training. Did I go wrong or is it normal when starting soft style? Thank you Mark for great inputs!

    • @cucciafr68
      @cucciafr68 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

I can't speak on if it is normal during soft style, but typically lower back pain is from not engaging the glutes and the core enough. Doing hard style, I assume you are really focusing on those key points to produce the power. When you start changing things up, you start focusing on the newer parts of the technique while the other stuff starts to lack. This happens all the time in judo (or anything, really), when you start to focus on a new aspect such as foot placement or off balancing and you forget to lift your arm high enough, for example.
So if you aren't firing those muscles as much as you would normally and do it for a longer period of time, that may be a cause. I'll catch myself in the later sets of my workouts slacking off a bit and have to remind myself before my back starts to bug me. I would try doing these soft style swings the way you would do hard style in terms of sets and reps and really focus on those muscle firings. Hopefully this will help your back and after a while the muscle memory should be there.

in soft style, your heels still stay anchored to the ground (they seem to be), or do you have some weight transfer to your toes?
