When I walked outside today, I caught myself pondering what I could do with the Mega65 and how I would approach it. And I felt like 35 years ago. This is magic. Who cares about some bugs... Thank you, Mega65 Team!
What is really amazing here is that the Mega team provided the community a once in a lifetime opportunity to be a part of designing a C65 based 8 bit computer like the legends of the Commodore did 40 years ago! It is just mind boggling. We are all getting opportunity to finish Commodore's work and even improve it! And the Mega team did it without any commercial gain. And still made it to the finish line where others sadly failed... Thank you, thank you, thank you....
Thanks for the shoutout at 14:00 and another great update, especially the conversation around the, "community." And agree, TRENZ deserves a huge applause.
Mega Team, you Rock ! You just can't figure out how you made my day and coming years with this super awesome Machine ! Thank you soooo much, and Yes the Future is Open Source !!!!
When I ordered from the 1st batch, I was aware that the machine has bugs. Thats OK for me. I will wait a few more month before I try to do what I want to do, but I am happy with the hardware. It is an amazing machine, and I am still proud to support it, also when I am not able to code something.
To be honest, I'm really only interested two things: a bulletproof C64 core for nostalgia, and native M65 games and community!!! It's extremely important to write native software for the M65 as it sits. We have something extremely special here!
Ansonsten macht weiter so. LG Thorsten
Jzus wept! The price of the computer I can just stomach, but almost 1/3 of it AGAIN just for shipping?? What are you packing it in, the Ark of the Covenant? Am I to expect a 16 man honor guard and the sound of angel's trumpets when it arrives on my doorstep? Unless you can somehow get the shipping cost down, perhaps by ditching the diamond encrusted platinum box lining, it's a hard pass from me. A real shame as I was really looking forward to one.
Waht's the 4:3 monitor you are using in the video? It seems to match the Mega65 very well, and also has built-in speakers. Is it HDMI or VGA (or both)?
We are using VGA (pretty sure the monitor has no HDMI, probably has DVI) and it has no built-in speakers, the MEGA65 is connected to a small sound system via the 3,5mm jack. We answered the model/make somewhere, however don't have that info at hand at the moment, I need to go look for it :-D.
Would the Mega65 core (license, source code) be available for people who are lower on budget and would like to buy the exys a7 board from Xilinx or Digilent with 200T chipset instead? I heard it’s possible to run the core on either of those 2 development boards. Of course, i understand it would help more the project and community to buy an actual Mega65, but just wondering if you guys are ok with other options. Hats off to you guys, you’re doing an above amazing job, and building something beautiful!!!
The MEGA65 core is open source and you can find it here github.com/mega65 we are actively supporting the Nexys4 and other boards. You can download the core via the MEGA65 filehost files.mega65.org/ search for "Core" to find the the "Nexys 4 Core file" for example) The cheapest way to make a MEGA65 would be with a Wukong board from QMTECH + a widget board adapted to it (community development of a new interface board is ongoing). Alternatively A7-100T, "Nexys 4 DDR" or "Nexys 4", all with A100T FPGA. Watch out for A35T or A50T models they won't work.
Batch 2 (400 as this was the amount of FPGAs we were able to obtain) is currently being produced and delivery is planned before Christmas this year (2022). Trenz Electronic will get in touch with payment info ones your machine is ready for shipping.
@@MEGA65retroI finally received it today! 😊 It looks very nice and can't wait to try it. However, the registration code code for the forum doesn't work. Is it possible to contact someone by email to get a new code?
What does MEGA stand for... "Museum of Electronic Games & Art "... :) well it is a museum piece if you think about it, it was never manufactured, like a sports car that had a prototype but was never made, by 1990 CBM must of known how much money they were wasting, they spent money like confetti, thats why they went bankrupt in 1994, it's a shame, I liked Commodore, I still do. ah I see now... this was made in 1990 -1991 the same time the C64 was retired, did you know in the UK it was on the news on Capital Radio in London when they stopped making the C64, it was the only computer I know that was, I remember hearing about it on the radio... :)
In March 1994, at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany, Commodore announced that the C64 would be finally discontinued in 1995, noting that the Commodore 1541 cost more than the C64 itself. However, only one month later in April 1994, the company filed for bankruptcy. When Commodore went bankrupt, all production on their inventory, including the C64, was discontinued, thus ending the C64's 11 and a half year production. Claims of sales of 17, 22 and 30 million of C64 units sold worldwide have been made.
Have you ever thought of making it in mass production by using a manufacture, like Koch Media, but would it be cheap to make thats the thing maybe in time, its as expensive as the Amiga 500 was in 1990 if you got it on HP and 3x as much as a C64 was in 1984, it's a shame you decided to release it now, with the Ukraine war and the Gas and Electric going up 50% it was 3 months ago, I guess that how it falls... :( thats why I got THEC64 is the poor man's computer... :) thats why I think this should have a proper emulator so people can experience it who do not have the money to get the real thing, thats why we have emulators and to preserve the past... :)
C'mon man - we’re just on the tail end of 2.5 years of covid madness, with the lockdowns and hysteria. There'll always be some wet blanket saying it's not the right time - if it's not covid or Ukraine, it'll be the climate change fanatics. Life is short - let’s seize the moment

This computer is so cool. Great update guys! Keep up the good work. So many things I want to build on my mega65.
Vielen Dank für euer starkes Engagement, ich freue mich meinen Mega65 zukünftig in Empfang zu nehmen!

Fantastic result. I LOVE my Mega65 and the community is so helpful. More!
I was not aware of this community-approach, but I like it - great work!
you are doing a crazy job! soon I will receive one through Carlo Pastore!

Wenn das Ding nicht so teuer wäre könnte man sich ja kaufen

Is there any update as to when the 2nd batch will be getting made? I preordered but have not been asked to pay anything yet. Thank you.

Please tell me the link to order one of these computers? Thank you!

Is any closing date for orders in the second batch known yet?
Last time we checked there were still orders possible for the 2nd batch so there is no closing date as such.
Two words: External mics.

The C64 was never retired, it was on sale until Commodore collapsed. Games for it was still being released in 1993
