Just Scots-Irish? I'm sure most knot work is used throughout Celtic countries, Including Wales and Cornwall. Both older than either Scotland or Ireland. Americans seem to think Ireland and Scotland or the only Celtic countries.
While I normally use the dot method discovered by Dr Mike Van Stone this works really well too. I had George Bain's book for years and had a hard time using his method to make knots. You really have cleared things up for me.
Particularly enjoyed the history/back-story of the design that you inserted into the demonstration- really enhances the presentation IMO. Have never been able to figure out the Bain method (from his books), so also enjoyed your commentary on those various methods for creating the knotwork. I typically use Aidan Meehan's method, but am excited to see how Bain's can be used for applications where Meehan's will not... Thanks very much for sharing!
It's also funny that I made this particular knot for my niece's dorm room, as she got a scholarship for rowing. :) She's a freshman on the varsity team, so I guess, coupled with her hard work, it did bring her good luck! :) Thanks again.
I came up with this knot on my own, after wanting to stretch out a little bit from the original 3 x 3 grid. It's beautiful. I've enjoyed learning the history behind the knot. Thank you! :)
Really appreciate how easy you make this to follow! I have been stumped by celtic knots for a while. Now I look forward to working with them. Thank you!
this is the way I learned to make my knots, from a Dutch book I found years ago. I enjoy it very much and it is kind of easy, just as you say, asks lot of focus as it can get confusing.
you have realy inspired me
